  4. Philadelphia, December 1991 KYW was simultaneously running two separate formats: Eyewitness News at 6pm and The News Tonight at 11pm, even with different reporters on the same story... I have no idea what other dayparts were running (early morning and midday - if they even had a midday newscast). By February, everything was was new format/theme/graphics. Also WPVI and WHYY... 6. Now this is too much good stuff! The WYFF bump really shares a sound with the contemporaneous WEAR pack from Hummingbird. The WSOC/WCCB open is something I've never seen, and that WBTV pack is solid stuff for 1994! And North Carolina Now's open is straight out of a sitcom!

  8. And there is the fact that by that time CBS owned WCCO, and one way for the eye to 'hurt' the Deathstar/KARE was to take their popular met away, and if things didn't work out at 'BBM, bring him back to the Twin Cities to be chief @ CCO.

  10. Maybe someone at Nexstar finally realized giving their stations' websites random names that don't really connect with the station itself is stupid, and are now "finally" trying to fix that mistake. Hopefully this means the end is nigh for sites like arkansasmatters.com and ozarksfirst.com.

  12. Here is some rare TV-DX clips from the 1980s. Watch for a WHOI news close from 1986 at 3:58, a WICS news clip with "Power News" at 5:04 and a rare WLIO news open clip at 8:41 which features a never-heard-before news theme.

  13. It's mostly because in the Lehigh Valley, we're often forgotten by the Philly stations unless something really dramatic or gruesome happens. So we have nowhere else to turn for local news except for the Morning Call or Express Times newspapers, the latter of which is a sad excuse for a paper. WFMZ does a good job, but I think they could do even better and get even more hyper-local with the news. But they'd need a larger staff for that and that probably wouldn't happen.

  15. I find it incredible how incredibly successful they have been over the years certainly considering that it seems to somewhat be a hotbed for great journalism and somehow great local ownership. I know this probably won't happen, but for whatever reason, if the station ever was on the selling block, what do you think would happen to WFMZ?

  16. KXLY in December 1989. This theme is new! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=g3_Fk3-LQGM;t=743 The SLC stuff is great! Hoping for more, especially early-mid 90s!

  17. High speed rail in Texas? Yikes, some things don't change... Some WXII from 1993...the tease and beginning of an 11pm show. (The tease bed is Conner-tastic!)

  18. In Little Rock, they already have a separate website for KLRT at fox16.com carried over from Newport. So hopefully at some point they'll change arkansasmatters.com to KARK.com or something tied to KARK.

  19. With so many stations adopting this I guess this is the new Nexstar layout. a slight improvement over the previous one, but still a downgrade from the MG wordpress sites. It is encouraging to see the West Virginia stations drop the stupid "localportalhomepage.net" titles, hopefully other nexstar stations will do he same.

  20. What did I say earlier? If you've seen the successes of operating independents in Chicago & Milwaukee, KOFY's shows would be a perfect fit for Weigel. In fact about it, after getting the shows, drop the KTLN calls and make that station KOFY. ________ Anywho, Brady is unloading one of its stations. Brady is donating its Twin Falls station, KXTF to religious broadcaster, TCT.

  22. A warning to anyone who wants to watch the above: it isn't very much about the broadcast stations. Most of the time is spent on their video production arm. Also, a clip of KDBC News 4 from 1991 featuring a break bumper with the KCBS-WNEV-WVTM theme:

  23. I'd honestly like to see either Hearst or Cox in charge- the former because their stations still have strong local identities and personalities despite standardization and network branding, the latter because of their family ownership and lack of standardization- outside of the disaster are that is WFXT, they run their stations competently and with minimal oversight, so WFMZ wouldn't be all that different under Cox.
