  3. KMGH has had tons of missing eras for years, I’m glad they’ve (mostly) turned up. I believe that Newsmat set debuted alongside Bertha Lynn joining Jim Redmond at the anchor desk, as according to ads in 1984 the former was still anchoring with Ann Wade. Now let’s see the WHBF open that was once only heard on the NMSA: That camera zoom on the anchor is pretty jarring...

  5. KSTP's Eyewitness News at 6:30 open at the end of a 6pm show from 1996: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Lplxhy_lNxM;t=1755 (The graphics and color scheme make me think a bit of KCTV from this era)

  6. While we're on KMGH...here's that Newsmat set and graphics still in use in 1989 Also you get to hear one of the synthesized Great News cuts. For some reason, most of those didn't make it into the package set that's been floating around the trading circuit. Guess Gari kept it out of the package when they released the later series. Also here's the open from that era / another one of those missing cuts. The vamp is without a voiceover.

  8. So Id guess they debuted the Newsmat set and graphics around the summer, as by May they still were using the old set:

  11. WJXT 1974 set from 44 years ago involving what happened to a threat from a channel 4 reporter. WDIV (the original WWJ) 1976 tornado outbreak. You can find more WBZ flashbacks like this one.

  13. It made complete sense to do it (and they had lots of requests for it once the spectrum merge happened). I always wondered why they didn't make it part of the loop in the first place when they switched to the Local AccuWeather software with non-com tweaks.
