  3. They're going to replace it with a 2-hour version of their lifestyle show, 'Studio 512,' starting in October. Reruns of 'Studio 512' are airing till then. They didn't really give viewers much warning and folks on social are mad -- even though if you look at the ratings, that newscasts never really got more than a .3 or .4 .

  4. Today is the day that WABC-TV Channel 7 is turning 70 years old. You remember the on-air news anchor faces including Scott Vincent, Roger Grimsby, Tom Dunn, Bill Beutel, Gil Noble, Ernie Anastos, Kaity Tong, Tom Snyder, John Johnson, Roz Abrams, John Marler, Rolanda Watts, Greg Hurst, and others... You remember the on-air news reporting faces including Mark Haines, Carol Iovanna, Doug Johnson, Rosanna Scotto, Jay DeDapper, Dorothy Lucey, Art McFarland, Lara Spencer, Judy Licht, and others... You remember the on-air weather team faces including Lynn Dollar, Storm Field, Ira Joe Fisher, and Sam Champion. And you remember the on-air sports team faces including Howard Cosell, Spencer Christian, Jerry Azar, Corey McFerrin, Eli Zaret, Scott Clark, Mark Stevens, and Marvel Scott. The station was launched 70 years ago today, when the station's call letters at the time was WJZ-TV, and it's call letters WABC-TV has been since 1953. And today after 70 years, Channel 7 is still New York's #1 television station, and the #1 television station in America. So happy 70th anniersary, WABC-TV!!!

  5. That makes sense, now if they can merge WatchESPN with ESPN+, then I would gladly sign up for the streaming service

  6. Per a Facebook video post Jessob Reisbeck is joining WJLA in Washington, DC as weekday morning co-anchor. He was most recently the morning anchor at WITI the Fox affiliate in Milwaukee.

  7. Lauren Glassberg has been substitute anchoring far more often recently than she typically had in the past. Wonder if it's a contract renewal stipulation for her, or if they're short staffed with summer vacations. On another note, Sade is going to slowly return to the 5:00 pm show next month per Bill Ritter.

  8. I can't believe nobody here recorded the 10pm news anchored by Shep. Who dropped the ball guys? EDIT: I guess my other question is, did they gut the WWOR Secaucus facility or something? It seems illogical to broadcast from FNC headquarters when you have backup facilities in New Jersey.

  9. I've also heard... also heard... still RUMORS, that WFMJ was about to expire its contract with Ellen last year and was willing to do it then. But right before the TV season started, they renewed it. If they didn't, WKBN was about to take it. Connections give me powerful info sometimes.

  15. Here is another rare find that was uploaded...in 2010. I am sharing with you a video about Kris Ketz who was inspired by his father Jim King, a longtime news anchor at WQAD. So, I came across this video and found a rare WQAD news open from 1982 which can be seen at :25. And, it was seen on the night that Kris teamed up with his dad for the 6pm "Active 8 News".

  19. I wouldn’t be surprised if the fiasco was a combination of the theories suggested in this thread. I tend to believe it was a massive internet failure. But I might also theorize that workers dealing with construction and abatement might have accidentally severed data lines running through the building. Few other things could explain an internet failure localized to one building. This should serve as a warning (but won’t) that absolute dependence on the web to facilitate day to day operations, without an alternative, is a recipe for disaster. I remember, when internet access became a normal part of station operations, that certain parts of the facility were kept as closed systems, without web connections. Editing, master control, traffic, etc. were not allowed direct web access. Servers were isolated. This wasn’t so much to protect against internet failure, as it was to prevent the introduction of viruses and malware. News, by necessity, had internet access. But I remember more than once when a virus shut down the primary system, forcing a painful switch to an ill-maintained back-up server. I appreciate the many advantages and progress of cloud system operations, and using the internet, instead of costly and sometimes obtuse closed or direct access systems. But the dependence on the web comes with a serious risk that station management minimizes. If the power goes out, most stations have generators. If a water mains break, bottled water can be brought in. But absolute reliance on the internet, with no back-up or alternative to serve your number one responsibility of putting product on the air, is a guarantee that exactly what happened, will happen.

  20. Maybe WKYC will get the hint too. IIRC, their lack of a 5pm show makes them the largest major network affiliate not to have one. I'm sure they could stand on their own now given the shifts of the marketplace. WKYC has been a contender for at least the last 15 years.

  21. I believe Hot Bench will move to WBCB or Nexstar27/33. Ellen will move to 3 and Dr.Pill will stay on at 4. I don't see Today's WFMJ dropping Live or Judge Judy.

  22. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY6yHk42wN8 A WTEN report on the band C. Jane Run from around their first stint using Primetime News (this is definitely NOT 2001.) Also at this point I won’t be taking requests anymore - not that I did anyway. No offense but I find it to be too stressful and i already have a list of areas going anyways. @T.L. Hughes I’m sure they did that on your videos too when you were doing compilations... I am also actually at the very bottom of my current list already, so after finishing up Shreveport (yes I’m going there) and a few others, I’ll be back to rummaging through NewsActive3’s mounds of compilations.

  23. Watched the EN for the first time since the "EyeOpener" intro debuted. I was surprised and also disappointed. I'm a sucker for news opens, so going from a read of headlines that lead into "This is the CBS Evening News..." to a read of two top stories that bring us to a 1 minute rundown of headlines is a letdown for me because I truly appreciate the classic, old-school ways of not just the news on TV, but shows of all genres. Though I may be an outlier in some ways to my generation of "at your fingertips" and "instant gratification", I do understand why these moves need to be made, even if it does or does not concern Glor's future.

  24. Let's not forget a bigger anniversary if you ask me: November 17 is the 50th anniversary of the Eyewitness News format thanks to Mr. Al Primo. I've been working my brains off on a spreadsheet of every non-freelance staff member in WABC history since 11-17-68. It's been an insane amount of work.

  25. ^^^ Another Hearst station is going midday. WISN 12 is bringing back its midday broadcast. On September 10, WISN will launch an hourly-11am newscast. That would lead up to the new GMA's third hour program at 12pm. I remember years ago when WISN had a noon broadcast, when did they drop it?

  27. Karyn Greer has been in the Atlanta market for 30 years. She started on then WGNX Channel 46 Indy as weekend anchor and when the weeknight anchor on the 10pm news left she took over. She been at 46 from Indy to the station becomes a CBS affiliate. In 1999, the station get a new owner. Dave Roberts(then ND) at WXIA brings her over to 11Alive where she was the reporter for Special Projects, and weekend anchor/reporter. WXIA would produce the 10pm news for WUPA, and it could of been a contract dispute, because it was ratings were not there to continue. She would move up to AM anchor and team up with Jill Becker doing Morning/Noon News. Also substituting in the evenings for Brenda Wood at times. They took her off the morning news and cancelled the noon news. She was given a contract, but think with TEGNA being TEGNA, she walked away and it was said her contract wasn't being renewed. She went back to the place she started and was doing reporting and fill-in anchoring. Now she anchoring the Noon news. While her comrades in the market have retired, passed, or moved on. She still only of a few left with a brand name in the market. She should be doing more at CBS46. Make note all (4) ladies competed with each at 6/11pm newscast during the 90s after the switch WAGA at 6pm only. WSB/2 -Monica Kaufman WAGA/5- Amanda Davis WXIA/11- Brenda Wood WGNX/46-Karyn Greer
