  2. Canceling LIVE would mean ABC forcing WABC-TV to end a profitable local production and/or Disney telling their distribution arm to stop making money by syndicating it to dozens of non-ABC station group affiliates and then telling all of those local stations to give their lucrative 9am local hour back to the network in exchange for a midday hour or a lot of money. Oh, and the high ratings and profits that are generated from LIVE would probably have to nosedive first. So.. yeah, Sam Rubin and “the insiders” can keep speculating...

  3. TV execs don't cancel shows because the host has a big ego.

  4. 36 years ago today, WSAV and WJCL swapped network affiliations, only to reverse said swap 3 years later after NBC turned everything around. In the days leading to the switch, WJCL blacked out ABC promos in favor of this graphic promoting the upcoming switch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=mdtQ7A125Zs;m=2;s=1

  8. Latest local ratings report after WFAA's first GMA Day airing, and midday news move to 11am: http://www.unclebarky.com/dfw_files/f2b5f10d183240fce6f2b0bcb2e69c52-4270.html 1. Y&R; B&B (KTVT) 2. Noon news; TMZ (KDFW) 3. GMA Day (WFAA) 4. Days of Our Lives (KXAS) The WFAA midday news at 11 was fourth, but the other 3 in the top 3 weren't listed, but were likely a mix of KXAS' midday news, KTVT's midday news and first 1/2 of Y&R, and Wendy in her relocated timeslot on KDFW.

  10. I guess I should've expected it came from them, here is that theme in use at JLA from 1985: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=dHAi5cPpdNI;m=2;s=37 I wound assume WCIV must have used a similar open as well. Also worth noting is that WCIV back then used the same "On Your Side" logo that WJLA had back then.

  11. By the way, Sam Rubin is in this week's episode of KTLA's "The News Directors Office" podcast, of which, I really thoroughly enjoy. Of course, it has the interview but it also starts with quotes and offers a fun fact on Dolly Parton (and who doesn't love her, seriously?) in every episode. I seriously recommend it. Past interviewees include Eric Spillman, Ellen K. from KOST FM, Kevin Fraiser (last week's) and Megan Henderson (first episode).

  12. They sure did... and so did their sister station in Syracuse, WSTM: Both were owned by Federal Broadcasting at the time - Federal later divested WCFT when ABC/Allbritton came to set up the ABC 33/40 tri-mul-cast.

  14. Here is WCFT in Tuscaloosa during their final days as a separate CBS affiliate. Take note at 1:16, because they used a TVbD graphics package.
