  3. This collection has over 100 flags and took over 40 years to collect . Think of all the fun you could have with those.

  4. If you ever wondered what a newscast for WGPR (now CBS O&O WWJ) looked like before CBS took control, here's a sample (courtesy of the FuzzyMemories channel) from 1981. 1981 WGPR "Big City News" Morning Report (partial)

  5. Plus you have to haul and lug all those flags, and you have to keep track of the stand-ups making sure they match stations, you have to be cautious of outdated logos or network affiliation switches. ...and if and when you screw one up...it's all YOUR fault. How about just No mic flag and a nice new black Electro VoiceRE-50... Or a nice new black RE-50 and a generic Nexstar flag?

  7. Was just about to post something related to this, and was disgusted in what I learned. Here's to someone reputable getting that station away from this guy ASAP.

  9. KDFW, too. The news theme and promo song were also heard in San Francisco, but on different stations. KTVU used the news theme for their weekend 6:00; and KOFY had the promo.

  12. Nice to have a complete and non-glitched open of the first WPTY/WLMT theme! All the opens we have from those first few months are either bugged out or incomplete. The 9pm show with Harleston and Houston was the first in Memphis (and in the nation!) to be anchored by two African-American men. Also, I'm a big fan of that theme bed. The first day of operation at WPTY News Watch 24 saw the 6pm newscast go out with a really harsh buzzing sound and the 10pm open air no fewer than three times (local newspaper accounts confirm this was how it went out!): The first WLMT 9pm show had its own big blunder, when Houston, who had been poached from WDAF, welcomed viewers to News Channel 30... Their launch was so bad they changed lead male anchors within two weeks of going on air and fired a producer in January 1996. Within five months, they had changed news themes. The problems weren't just presentation and technical, either (they kind of raced the clock to begin broadcasts). The opening night sports report mentioned "Memphis University" instead of the University of Memphis. The station essentially failed to convince Memphians that they knew the city.

  14. Should be noted BET had to leave this after Viacom bought them out since they were then co-owned with Showtime (resulting in BET Movies: Starz! 3 becoming Black Starz and eventually Starz inBlack). But here's something BET didn't sell to Viacom: their own PPV service, previously the independent Action PPV (BET took it over sometime in the late 90s):

  15. Well...the Ernest Angley saga has taken a disturbing turn.... I'll leave it at this article posted in today's Akron Beacon Journal (and it's only the first part!) https://www.ohio.com/news/20190119/rev-ernest-angley-admitted-sexual-encounter
