  1. Thank God I got an antenna on standby to watch WKYC, not that anything on there is worth watching anymore.

  2. I'd be surprised if the CBSN look rolled out to the OTA newscasts with no modifcations or differences. Whether it's more thorough opens, a different bug with the station logo, or different lower thirds, what's used for the cable-like CBSN might not work as well for the traditional local format. The best comparison I can think of is how WGN and CLTV have differentiated their looks over the last decade, while sharing fonts, color schemes, and basic design elements.

  3. This shows a lot of people are stupid. They want the networks/stations yet gripe when they have a huge rate increase at the beginning of the year. Shouldn't they be able to put two and two together? It's not that infrastructure/maintenance costs increased that much. It's mainly programming costs.

  5. Now in Columbus (OH) there is a crawl running on WBNS saying Spectrum viewers will lose 10TV if a new deal isn't met...

  7. — WCMH was in the midst of a transition period from News 4 to NewsChannel 4 in the first clip. NBC had just bought them from Outlet and was tacking on the peacock and chimes in every place they could. They were still on that set as recently as 2008. I will say, I like their hybrid WNBC/WRC era — WNBC’s on air bug with WRC’s graphics. — WSYX was dead last in the late 1990s, yet they had such a quality team... Bob Hetherington, Terri Sullivan, Charlene Brown, Carol Luper... I like what Sinclair has done for WSYX over the last 20 years, especially post-NewsCentral. They’ve become like a second flagship for them. — No 10TV, save for KidsNews Network? KNN was pretty innovative for its time, though!

  8. Gee Pannoni, THANK YOU for uploading right after I updated KDBC.... Also good to see some more of that short-lived KOCO era. Never got why they switched so much...

  9. I was looking into a google voice solution for faxing. The cable modem is downstairs but I have the printer connected to an Ethernet bridge so I could connect it easily. I don’t really want some of the free services due to the nature of what’s being faxed. I think google voice is promising.

  10. WTOL’s Dick Berry retires Sunday after 40 years: https://www.toledoblade.com/a-e/tv-radio/2019/09/27/after-four-decades-at-wtol-tv-toledo-reporter-dick-berry-retires-sunday/stories/20190928049 Candid interview and great perspective from an actual journalist. "The whole media business has become more corporate ... which is affecting how the news is covered, as well as the people you see entering the news business," he said. "A lot of them are not qualified to be in the news business. I just wonder how they got to be where they are.”

  12. My parents (70s) have their routine (Dallas): TV is never on before noon Noon is CNN Off mid-afternoon 4pm - CBS11 5pm - WFAA8 5:30 - ABC World New Tonight 6pm - Jeopardy (TXA21) 6:30 - Wheel of Fortune (CBS11) Prime time varies, but usually the TV is off at 7 - unless Dad goes upstairs for a Ranger’s Game; Mom stays downstairs reading, knitting or possibly watching something previously recorded. 10pm - CBS11 News 10:35 - Colbert They complain about the cost, but when I suggest a cheaper package - that shuts down the conversation... Because they might want to watch HBO or Showtime or VOD or... Whereas I’ve become television’s worst nightmare: someone in their 50s who doesn’t watch TV...

  14. This may sound stupid but I just learned that today. I didnt know she changed her name to her last name, Jansing. But I can see why NBC News recruited her from WNYT in 1998. She's really good and I enjoy her work.

  16. A KJRH weather special from 1985 - includes a glimpse of their then-brand new Scripps set (definitely after June since the old one was still used), an intro voiced by the late Ed Hopkins, and their version of NBC’s “Let’s All Be There” campaign.

  20. That's the latest use I've ever seen of any station using And You! Then again, this is the same station who is still living in 2009 graphics-wise! Heres more of that newscast, including a bumper at the end using "Say Hello": The very beginning of Great News Package on WKYC:

  21. I'm by no means a hater of corporations but when it comes to creative content, they ruin everything they touch. And not just in the media. Shopping these days is about as fun as going to the dentist because all your choices have dwindled to just a handful as the big corporations gobbled up market share. (Retail does have a creative side to it.)
