  1. I wouldn’t call these rip-offs. They’re numbers in a specific font - that’s the same as saying WJLA’s circle 7 logo is a rip-off of WABC, KABC, KGO, WLS’s logo, since WJLA isn’t an ABC owned and operated station... A rip-off isn’t using the same package as another unrelated station. A rip-off is trying to create a similar looking package (usually on the cheap), but not pulling it off well. For example, this KALB newscast open (not sure if it was used on air or not): https://youtu.be/dLlFpX68s68 at duplicating the WNBC’s 2010 open: https://youtu.be/5Mk0FFM8nrE IMHO is a distinct ripoff... 3. I give props to ABC’s coronavirus coverage. They’ve replaced GMA3:SS&K with coronavirus special daily. The View is constantly covering updates. They’ve done 20/20 specials and other prime time specials. Plus Nightline is focusing on Coronavirus and airing at 11:35.

  4. No. This isn't a knockoff. It's a standard. This is like saying WNEM's graphics are a CBS O&O knockoff because it's the same package. Fox stations around the county use this logo we call it the 'Fox Box'. If you're going to blame KXPI for using it, then blame the dozens of other Fox affiliates who've used it as well. I will point out that the biggest inconsistency here is '5' font.

  5. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/abcs-david-muir-is-trying-remain-calm-steady-pandemic-1287684 A pretty good read (highly recommend) 'World News Tonight' has been the top-rated show in all of American television for three weeks this month (March), averaging nearly 11 million viewers per night.

  7. I really hope that somebody out there saved footage of that prank. But hey, if the BBC was able to save their “spaghetti trees” footage, then I’m sure the Great Blue Hill thing is around somewhere. Anyway, back on topic, the user known as “btm0815ma” has been uploading some great stuff lately. One of which being this newscast where Dan Rather talks about a recent incident where he was assaulted on the street by a crazy person. Although not mentioned here, the perpetrator allegedly said to him, “Kenneth, what is the frequency?”, which later inspired the name of a popular R.E.M. song. Speaking of Dan Rather, here’s one of the newscasts that led to his downfall as CBS’s lead anchor, in which he shared fabricated documents about George W. Bush’s army career.

  8. Heck no. The music, yes, but that is as mid-2000s Raycom Design as it gets.

  9. An incomplete KTVO-TV, Ch. 3, Late Newscast from April 4, 1993. A very rare incomplete newscast from KTMJ-LP Ch. 6 in Junction City, KS, circa 2000. This was when KTMJ-LP had their own inhouse news department & before they transplanted the KTMJ-LP callsign to their Ch. 43 translator in Topeka, KS (In 2001.) & moved their operations to Topeka, KS (In 2004.).

  10. WNAC news, 1980: Why am I posting this? Because today marks 40 years since the April Fools prank where they reported that the Great Blue Hill ski resort was erupting.

  11. I agree it probably should happen but the issue I simply can't get past is Soo Kim. He's not going to wait until things get better for something to happen, afterall he didn't wait until the economy to get better when he bought into Young Broadcasting (which at that time they were bankrupt) Obviously Tegna isn't bankrupt here but it has severely underperformed against its peers and no matter what's going on with COVID-19 Kim's going to get what he wants. If I were in his shoes I would agree and wait until things got better when the better offers would come, unfortunately I'm not.
