  1. I know it’s a competitive industry but in a city with about 6-7 news options, being a solid and steady #2 isn’t reason to change. The industry is so obsessed with who is first but in saturated markets, #2 is not a bad place to be at all.

  2. NBC5 is kinda weird, in that you don't see many retirements (like 7 & 9), and very few firings (like 2 & 32). People just kind of leave. Personnel stagnates, so many are blocked from rising up the chain, which has led to more frequent exits, unlike the other 2 top tier stations, where people stay until they die. It's not a bad way to operate, but it just strikes me as odd. - - - Unrelated, I never saw a mention, but have not seen any job postings, either. Is Pete Sack now official on weekend evenings?

  4. No. Rob and Allison would have to retire. WMAQ tends to be faithful (to a fault) that I can't remember the last time anyone was fired.

  5. Bravo, I say. Anyone who puts the public interest ahead of personal or corporate gain gets an A+ in my book. Also, like the article says, I'd be interested to know how TEGNA characterizes this "breach" of furlough, since he was acting as an independent meteorologist. Just scrubbing through the stream, he doesn't appear to use any TEGNA graphics, but I'm not going to sit and watch all 2 1/2 hours just to see how diligent he is to not mention WCNC. At any rate, I think we can all agree that when multiple tornado warnings are happening in and around the main city in your market, you have to pull out all the stops. I'm sure the other meteorologists did a fantastic job, but you need your Chief in an outbreak, big or small, to really drive the coverage.

  6. Who knows?? I wouldn’t be surprised if they just hire someone new out of the blue one day or officially announce 3 yrs. from now the job is his.

  8. Hiring advisory firms and such didn't result in them having to furlough people. Extravagant spending by the company's board just to retain board members (and that's not automatically the same thing as "defending" them against Standard), combined with the questionable (at best) circumstances regarding their shareholder voting process are just two of the long list of reasons I don't see this as a deathblow to Standard. This isn't over by any means.

  11. WIS didn't have a 6:00 newscast until the Gulf War, I believe, when they started "6:00 Carolina". Can't say I've heard this exact cut of Tuesday WWL before:
