  1. ABC7 & WGN have appointment TV-level viewer loyalty, and 7 & NBC5 also following first tier syndicated programming. Fox32 has neither, so good friggin' luck, is all I have to say. If they wanted to make inroads at 4, they'd wisely poach the first-run slate of Family Feud from sister My50 to lead into the 5 o'clock newscast.

  2. Alternate take: 4:30-7 is actually a very good time, considering (in normal times) everyone has to get up and ready for work/school. It's one of the most important timeslots for a news operation. At least Muller's back on the morning shift again.

  3. Not the only news anchor baby of July 14th: WNYT's Karen Tararache gave birth to her second on Tuesday as well.

  4. I agree. This definitely makes the station seem low budget. I also do not like how they’ve been using the secondary CBSN studio for noon and 6 weekdays with Dana Tyler, and for all weekend newscasts. It is unclear whether Dana is permanently at noon, or if Chris and Mary will return at some point. Andrea Grymes has been back from maternity leave for at least a month, if not more, but seems to only be reporting. It is unclear whether she will return to the anchor desk weekend mornings. Also, Cindy Hsu posted on her Facebook page recently that she will be having knee replacement surgery soon, so it will be interesting to see if Andrea returns to replace Cindy while she’s presumably out on medical leave. I also wonder if they’ll bring in a co-anchor.

  5. Read more closely. The person asked Craig two questions: if he was taking over the 6:00 p.m. news, and if Kala would be joining him. Craig’s reply, “afraid not,” could mean Kala’s not joining him, but it also might mean that he’s not going to be anchoring at 6:00 p.m. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I haven’t seen anything specifically stating that Craig will be anchoring at 6:00 p.m. We know John Muller is leaving the 6:00 p.m. for the 4:30-7:00 a.m. newscast, and we know Craig is moving to evenings. But we don’t know for sure that Craig will be anchoring. For all we know, he’s going to be reporting.

  6. George Reading was another Paul Udell type. He bounced around and ended up in Monterey CA as a semi-retirement job.

  7. I would like see Rana Novini take the spot as David's co-anchor. She does a good job anchoring and reporting. Not a fan of Gilma. But didn't ratings improve drastically with the team of Dan, Betty, Byron and Marissa? Why mess with it?

  11. Some WTEN and WNYT commercials from 1991: The WNYT stuff is from the tail end of their “News 13” era - includes slides for their anchors, a news brief, and a promo for “Buy New York First” sponsored by Evergreen Bank (now TD Bank).

  13. That makes KVUE the third station (that we know of) to use music from A Clockwork Orange as theme music for their newscasts (WVUE in New Orleans and WXIA in Atlanta are the others). Oddly enough, both KVUE, WVUE, and WXIA were ABC stations back in the mid-70s; the latter two have since switched to other networks, while KVUE remains with ABC......

  15. KOTA and KDUH switched affiliations to ABC in the middle of 1984. That noon open is the only one from KDUH that doesn't show a network logo. This is the only one of the opens we have for KDUH post-switch: The NMSA has a long-running and really understandable mix-up between two news music packages... It needs its own thread.
