  1. YES! YES! YEEEEEEAAAASSSSS!!!! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! For bringing back that familiar melody (with the ABC News signature of course) from the Peter Jennings era! AND, for getting rid of that Damn Hans Zimmer crap you used since 2012, when Diane Sawyer was at the helm. What a relief and a blessing to hear that Score Productions/Edd Kalehoff theme again.

  2. Really? A new color scheme and text size take a year and a half? WHAT!?

  3. We could always make it a bit longer: From ABC News World Headquarters at the Barbara Walters Building on Peter Jennings Way in New York, this is World News Tonight with David Muir!

  4. What happened to giving the audience the news now? No wait, we'll tell you the stories in 2 minutes, but first this. The producers who produce these opens have taken it too far. The only broadcast that does it creatively is CBS This Morning with "Your World in 90 Seconds". Everyone else is just wasting the viewers time. It's old hat and ridiculous.

  5. I’ve been dreaming of the day they brought back the Jennings-era theme... and am so glad it has finally happened! Love that the voiceover intros the newscast the same way it used to introduce Peter.. “from ABC News world headquarters in New York...” another throwback to the Jennings era!

  6. I feel like this only works, though, when it's paired with brief, simple, single-story teases going into a break, such as they did last night. Otherwise, way too much airtime is being taken up on previews, alone. It should be noted that, after the open we've seen, it took another 1:20 for Muir to go through major bullet points of the California fires. That's close to 4 minutes of show before the first correspondent hits the air. That's too dang long.

  7. After rewatching it a few times it seems that they actually do give quite a bit of information in those 2 1/2 minute opens and I think it’s brilliant. You can learn the basis of the top stories in that intro and then stick around for the intricate details throughout the show. Maybe this is ABC’s attempt at providing quick updates in our digitally connected world where programs like WNT, NN and EN have not been able to adapt as well to the changing landscape.

  8. Sadly, this doesn't seem like an updated version. Although the audio fidelity may not be good and therefore it betrays me ears, this is in fact the 2002 commission that went unused. Not exactly a modern take.

  10. Could be a savvy ratings play by postponing the first commercial break.

  11. Does anyone have the video of the noon newscast? Did the incident happen while they were live in studio or during a break (no pun intended)?

  12. Nice open, but the whole thing is 2 minutes and a half......a little too long if you ask me.

  13. I'd hazard that there are a fair amount of under-the-hood upgrades that we might not notice but take a while to implement?

  14. That's what I was thinking during the original airing this evening. I've heard all those cuts, and it sounded awfully familiar.

  15. The intro reminds me of the Diane Sawyer intro from 2009. I really like the new VO artist too. Always liked that theme over the new theme. I hope they bring back the old ending with the Times Square live photo and the same theme as well.

  16. CBS and Fox News Channel have had a content share agreement for a while. It's just not very often used, and when it is, it's usually transparent to the end viewer. For example, a Fox News satellite truck may uplink live signals for both FOX and CBS. Additionally, WFLD, WBBM, WGN, and WMAQ have had a news share agreement in place since 2009. I know everyone on here likes to think there's all this in-fighting behind the scenes between stations like a scene out of Anchorman. That couldn't be further from reality. Stations share content with each other all the time and work together frequently, regardless of affiliation or ownership groups, and this has been going on since TV started.

  17. I think the new logo is half Vistaprint, half Vagisil and half Valvoline all in one. Even Vagisil's logo rips off the Valvoline colors.

  18. Looks more like the old Vagisil logo to me.

  19. It’s not going to stop. They’re the most watched program across all of television, not just news, but across all television. They’re unlikely to change anything about their current formula.
