Now it's one thing to login if they are airing network and syndicated programming on the website (like the NBC O&O's sites) or a local cable news station but it's another if you need a login for a local OTA newscast. Ironically, DISH and Nexstar are having issues right now and if a deal isn't made by this Wednesday December 2nd, DISH viewers are out of luck.3 points

I know right, screw Pat Robertson, he airs on WRAZ FOX 50 in Raleigh or he used too they now air simulcast sister-station WRALs Noon News. No one watches and want to hear his racist-gospel rants3 points

I hope not, I watch WATN in Memphis and even though I don't like TEGNA, I definitely don't want to see the 700 Club every night.3 points

What's this I hear about TBN wanting to buy Tegna and replace the existing newscasts on those stations with hard-right religious shows? Did you hear about that? https://www.nexttv.com/blog/beware-of-religious-bias-in-media-consolidation3 points

That was when they were desperate to run away from Soo Kim in what was seen as a hostile takeover.2 points

This was back in April when there were rumors about that. I'm not sure what's happened to them since then but I haven't heard anything new in terms of who's offering Tegna and who isn't unless I've missed something since then.2 points

There be irreparable damage, I mean Sinclair learned the hard way and there collapsing right now, I'm kinda happy about it cause pushing agendas is something for cable. And local people kept it local, non-biased community faith, and now local news is endanger!!! Now I don't live in a Tegna market but imaging WFMY 2 News with Huckabee racist views.2 points

You know this reminds me of pastor Kenneth Copeland when he said "The media says Joe Biden is the next President a bursted out laughing" well this reminds of it but it's at people like him and his faith!!! This is never gonna happened not even Aj Ptat (A Republican himself) wouldn't allow this to happen TBN is a joke the only one I know who watches it is my grandma on my dad side (she's strictly Christian). And that would cost a huge rapture and it would be the largest mass affiliation rupture since 1995 with the FOX/New World deal. Cause no network is gonna wanna affiliate with that cause they serve the audience of America which is diverse, multicultural, and multi-religous also they be the ones to clear network programming for stuff not all religions would do not be happy with. This article is comedy cause it's never gonna happen!!! They even pre-empt the network evening newscasts, specials it just wouldn't be good for the business!!! And in Markets like Seattle, St. Louis, Dallas, Houston, Portland, Washington D.C., Phoenix that just wouldn't slide there.2 points

This is especially true in Severe Weather markets now those who archive severe weather coverage to YouTube would have no way of being able to freely access stations such as WIAT, KFOR, the KSN stations, or WDAF if they were to go behind the paywall. I have no idea what the heck Nexstar is thinking but.. this is just not a very smart move. P.S. all of the stations I just mentioned are in markets that are very Severe Weather savy.2 points

I'm a simple man. I see a vintage WSB video and click on it. Never am I let down. So this confirms the "Image VIII" theme was used in '92.2 points

I agree with that. But anything available free OTA, especially newscasts shouldn't be locked up behind a paywall.1 point

How true, how true! Imagine if someone in Phoenix wanted to turn on the evening edition of KPNX 12 News on coming home from work, and then all of a sudden had TBN shouting at them or Mike Huckabee ranting-- the ratings would tank in a hurry!1 point

Average viewer isn't going to care or probably even realize, but the reflection of the OTS screen on the viewer's left is perpetually stuck on an inverted "NIGHTLY" logo instead of reflecting what the OTS has on it. Makes sense for the shots where the NN logo is what's on the OTS... Design flaw? (Look at 1:14 to see what I mean)1 point

Great news about WMC and WVUE. I wonder if it's even possible for WOIO/WUAB to go UHF with a full-powered signal? WVUE is free-and-clear for me on 29, so when I can pick up New Orleans, it comes in pretty well...now it will be even better! So is WTVY on 36, but they are an established blowtorch at maximum power and are one of the tallest towers in the nation! (it's the tallest structure in the state of Florida).1 point

So a big follow-up regard WMC. @Samantha mentioned it yesterday (11/27), but I'll make a mention it here. In the light of the FCC finally lifting the freeze on station modifications and allotment subsitutions last month, WMC has now petitioned to move its full-power signal from the problematic VHF-low 5 to UHF 30! The contour of UHF 30 is smaller than the VHF 5 contour. And the reason is to protect Little Rock's KLRT which is also on RF 30. I guess there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hoping that they can finally get out of that VHF-low hellhole. But that's not all. Gray has filed petitions to move five more stations off that VHF dial. And that includes two nearby stations: KAIT Jonesboro, AR petitions to vacate VHF 8 for UHF 27. KFVS Cape Girardeau, MO petitions to vacate VHF 11 for UHF 32. They're also applications filed by other Gray stations who have asked for power increases. KWWT (the Odessa station Gray just bought) have asked to move its antenna facility to KOSA's tower and raise the power to 500kW. WVUE in New Orleans wants to boost its power from 850kW to the full maximized 1MW. KVLY, KNOE & KCWY have also applied for power increases. ______________________________________________ So on an unrelated note, KOLN was granted approval to rebuild its antenna tower. Remember, its original tower collapsed in an ice storm earlier this year. It originally wanted to build a larger tower (1650 ft.) but it has decided to lower the height by 150 ft. (which was the height of their original tower (1500 ft.)). This also affects KSNB's petition to move to UHF 24 (which also proposed to use KOLN's new tower). But that petition is currently under review.1 point

Yep, you can hit the big-time right away at your first job in Fargo or Danville or wherever, watching your package air verbatim on News Nation.1 point
-
Bottom line is, you've seen one Nexstar station, you've seen them all. They have gotten quite good at bicycling stories between adjacent markets. And then there's NewsNation.1 point

Nexstar was supposed to have a big "digital first" push among all its stations until the pandemic hit. You'll see a renewal of it for 2021, and, yes, they'll try to squeeze as much money from it as possible. Look for some of the bigger stations to be doing talk radio for TV online in between newscasts. I think WFLA already does a version of it.1 point

I currently live in the Charlotte area but I like being able to occasionally watch the local news from KOLR10. If they go behind a pay-wall, it will leave me without the ability to watch them (since I'm not currently living in the market). I really, really hope that Nexstar doesn't start restricting access to the live streams.1 point

Maybe for Out-of Town viewers. I know newspapers have been under paywalls for quite a few years now and some are free but require you to create an account. The fact that WGN America is not available on any streaming platform in 2020 is absurd. Cable and Satellite will continue to decline in popularity. Wonder if NewsNation would be more popular if it was on any streaming platform ?1 point
-
I could remotely understand this for out-of-town viewers, but at least make it free for people who live inside the market, for pete's sake! On the other hand, they have the NewsNation debacle and have done little to make WGN America available outside of cable and satellite. What a seriously misguided strategy they have.1 point

For all of the flack WKYC gets for out-sucking the other Tegna stations, at least they have once again a piece of their past to be very proud about, Leon Bibb. He always will be the "poet laureate" of Cleveland television. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmdvDmy5vII&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR1rNyKhrR_3Hm3WPHtIbymUisVS8Hj14_fnkyy1kXBsD8laQPcA_tmRdN81 point

Curle's husband Don Farmer co-anchored with Monica Kaufman at night. Curle and Farmer went to WSB ABC 2 after their stint at CNN across town. These two lovebirds were part of the network's first news team since CNN's inception in 1980.1 point

I have thoughts about what Dan O'Donnell and the rest of the WISN lineup can do... I'll let you use your imagination as to what. IMO, they're all repugnant.1 point

Some WTMJ imaging from the last weeks of NewsChannel 4, the following month, Today's TMJ 4 would be born: KSAT 12 News tonight before they introduced the famous tabloid open for that newscast: An almost complete edition of CBS This Morning from December 23, 1996, taped off WJMN with WFRV newsbreaks:1 point
