  1. "First Alert" for a news brand........ The question is why?

  2. KOSA debuted the beehive graphics. I’m so over the first alert branding. This might be the dumbest variation of it yet.

  3. Wow, so Gerard Jebaily is the one delivering the weather on the morning show. Where does that leave Albert Ramon then? Pushed to weekends, if anything? I don't believe there's a weather segment on weekday Prime anymore, now that the weekday show has become more about interviews (aka what you'd typically find on cable news, compared to the old local news format). At least when I watched two days last week, I didn't see a weather segment.

  4. The design company has this reel on their website showcasing the work they did for ABC. Interestingly, the ABC logo is downsized in the affiliate logos on this reel. Based on this and what we’re seeing in the rollout, it’s clear the owned stations pushed back on the the original idea. Also noteworthy, it that this reel shows what would be a WABC logo, but with the network logo placed the way KABC or KGO would.

  6. Kudos to Somerville for standing up...but this is Fox TV Stations, not Cox.

  7. Because the dumbass consultants thought it was a good idea. That's why.

  8. Going by what it was before WRNN bought them out, this looks like a good-faith purchase; the programming statement from Allen basically says ShopHQ is gone the moment the sale goes through, and they'll try their best to restore the old Filipino/Japanese schedule. I really hope this is a good sign that RNN is beginning to realize that throwing home shopping on their stations isn't doing anything for their bottom line. And going by this last note on their website where KIKU's staff basically threw them under the bus (rightfully so), Richard French and friends will not be getting a friendly Aloha out the door from the people actually staffing the station. And for all that we feared Byron would start a court-show only network and ditch major network affiliations, he's been a good steward and been wise about where and when to put his shows on these stations otherwise.

  9. He must be having a hard time finding someone to carry those scripted court shows. On some real stuff, I'd rather see a station carry those than be a dumping ground for infomercials. And besides, everyone else has multiple stations in Hawaii so why not? Now if RNN would sell everything else, or at least the stations that could be reasonable duopoly bait and provide a second outlet for news and syndicated shows.

  10. If they do retain Ramon in a regular on-air role, I would have to think it might make more sense to add a weather segment with him to Rush Hour, maybe just one time per show somewhere around :45 past, as having a weather segment seems more in-tune with the "Live news" theme of Rush Hour, compared to Prime where the theme is evolving more toward longer, in-depth stories with longer interviews. If they do bring him back for nightly segments on Prime, that's great too, but I do think he could stand to have a daily weather segment on Rush Hour. Side note: On-air advertising confirms that the "Prime" name is staying the same. Looks like the earlier consideration of rebranding it to "NewsNation with Marni Hughes" has been abandoned.

  11. I doubt this was part of ABC's standard testing program. More than likely the Secret Service administered tests to anyone that would come in close contact with the VP. Those tests would have been administered as close to airtime as possible.

  12. I was away this week, but based on her IG posts it seems like Kirstin was co-anchoring at 4pm with Tamsen. Vanessa out again?

  13. Yeah...he can't go against the machine there unfortunately (even if he's right which he is)

  14. He has a point to his argument but I think this could put a nail in his coffin at the station. It's been a fraught relationship between him and the station lately and I don't think it's going to get any better. I haven't watched KTVU's coverage but other competing stations, like KNTV, added about 60 seconds as a separate story to address the disparities in media coverage and I thought that balanced the issue well. If anything, him delivering the lines would've been awkward enough, but a solution like that of KNTV's would've done well.

  15. I have to wonder, was the inspiration for "Morning in America" the 1984 campaign slogan of the same name that Ronald Reagan used? You know, since NewsNation is supposed to be a "fair and balanced" news operation? Just give Tom Skilling his own show. Bring Bozo out of retirement. And it may be easy to wrestle back the Cubs from the Sinclair/Diamond dumpster fire that is "Marquee". The ratings would go through the roof!

  18. I'm going to guess they're so low budget at this point that they're doing all the graphics, etc through a TriCaster or something like that.

  21. WOIO did tweak their lower thirds slightly... This is a screen grab from their web video, but the left bleeds off the screen and the "19" bug covers the right end. The new Gray Ticker is right below the lower third.

  22. Frankly, I think they're afraid to cut ties with the loyal viewers of Blue Bloods and Last Man Standing, as they get higher ratings and ad revenue than the news!

  23. NN couldn’t own the Afghanistan story because of their limited resources over seas. While the other networks are owning this, let them. NN move in and own Ida. Own it. Stay on the air, own it. You have the resources to even share live station coverage like HLN used to do did it.
