  1. Yes, yes, because THAT'S the stations' problems. Not the decades of mismanagement, budget cuts, and subsequent poor ratings. Really, most here need to get a grip. I don't want to say that CBS Local is a downgrade from modern Enforcer (though I think it is), but it DEFINITELY wouldn't be some magical problem-solver, either. More than just about any cosmetic adjustment we've ever discussed here, such a theme change across the board might be the most unnoticeable of all time, to the average viewer. Hell, I have no problem saying that neither Gari nor Stephen Arnold have produced the best adaptations of the WBBM signature. They just happened to be the powerhouse music companies of their eras, therefore most accessible for the average client.

  2. Enforcer has seen several iterations of updates. Stations can use anything they want, composed from 1994 to 2020. However, stations typically use a mix of themes which can make the branding sound inconsistent. CBS Local was composed on the cheap. Stations are becoming less willing to pay for high quality music. So you get a lot of rushed, almost ubiquitous sounding packages that don't set the station apart from any other in the market. ABC has the edge because they invest more in station resources.

  3. Both packages are based on the same folk song "This is My City, Chicago's My Town" which gave rise to the 1975 theme by Dick Marx, and other news packages by different composers, especially Frank Gari and Stephen Arnold. "Enforcer" debuted in 1994 on WBBM-TV, "CBS Local" debuted in 2013 on Nexstar-owned CBS affiliate KGPE in Fresno.

  4. Or...they just decided to encompass both stations in a fun promo and the song was handy to do so? Not every station promo has to be a lurch involving crimes and accidents and claims of being first.

  5. I think they’ll for sure take Chuck off MSNBC, the viewers don’t like MTP Daily. Meet The Press is in 3rd place (total & prime viewers), so maybe NBC wants to make a change before the midterms. Who knows. NBC News Universal News Group has not been utilizing talent like they should recently, they have a lot of good, young talent on the bench just sitting there. Odds are they’ll lose some of them to competition who will give them a regular spot.

  6. Action News has a new reporter, Bryanna Gallagher. Rick just welcomed her during the 4p show. She comes to 6abc from WPMT, Fox 43 in Harrisburg.

  7. I think they both look nice, but I've decided that backgrounds that are just big skyline photos are boring. Putting a photo in a monitor does not take much effort. I prefer seeing some graphical design and physical set pieces.

  8. Some people overreact too much on these things. It's the middle of August. It makes sense that a senior anchor takes some time off. Not everybody is watching the news in the summer (COVID or no COVID) so stations will grant them break. People want to go outside. David will be back full time in the fall, I guarantee it...

  9. Who said he did? Anchors are humans. They are allowed vacations. They allowed sick days. And they are allowed to keep their private lives private. Throughout this time News4 was showing promos with David for the 11 pm show. Looks like real life to me.

  11. CBS Local from Stephen Arnold needs to be the package the CBS O&Os need to start using immediately. Retire the Enforcer music from 1994 and give some life to (in many cases) third place stations in major cities. ABC/Disney has the edge in many markets where CBS and ABC both own a station.
