  1. ABC 7 now has its Long Island bureau at Hofstra University. Years ago, CBS 2 has its Long Island bureau here. It was originally a private office in the communications building, but the bureau chief was later moved into the school's radio station office/newsroom. No flash cam position or anything like that. As a student and member of WRHU, I would often see the bureau chief working and making phone calls while the students were having fun being kids. Years after CBS 2 moved out, Hofstra kept the CBS 2 Long Island Bureau signage up to impress tour groups going through. https://abc7ny.com/wabc-long-island-bureau-hofstra-hempstead/11817787/

  3. A familiar face has resurfaced at WTSP. Dave Wagner, who last was an anchor/reporter for WTSP way back in 1999, has apparently returned to the station. His first stint with the station was from 1987-1999, and was the interim male evening anchor after John Wilson's departure in 1993.

  4. Is this related to the city raising the COVID alert level or is there working being done in the studio?

  6. WISN has always been the 'hard news and people you know' station in the market, and it's always felt like if it was up to the news side and not the bulk deal corporate had with Warner/Telepictures, they would've done so in June 2011 after Oprah ended rather than sliding Ellen up an hour. A lot of local news seems to happen in that 4pm slot and WISN has been handicapped to balance covering it with not getting "AngyAngie13030' yelling at them on Facebook because they missed one of Ellen's games or the 'secret sweepstakes keyword' during sweeps. WTMJ has had the timeslot in 1993 but over time their news in that slot deteriorated due to corporate mandates/egos, as Journal and Scripps were more interested in making it light and forming their shows to the whims of the siding/window companies that advertised on it (also when they had WTMJ radio, promoting that and their hosts to absurd points), while WITI and WDJT took to the timeslot in order to counteract that and Ellen to be the hard news option in the hour and just all those talk shows bombing at 4pm after 2012 just forcing their hand. Honestly though, WISN was very limited in the middle of the decade, still only doing morning/5/6/10, and the expansion has sorely been needed for years. They've expanded much more judiciously over the years and they have an anchor roster/weather staff that will have no problem handling it.

  7. Why exactly do they need another 4pm news? At what point does someone in management say this is overkill?

  8. No, but I wonder who’ll be the first to change things up now that the market leader is in the 4pm game

  9. This might explain all of this LP buying.... Gray announced it has expanded its partnership with Telemundo to carry the network in 34 markets. The 22 new markets are primarily in the Southeast.

  12. This is how the announcement of the exact date for Eid looks like in Malaysia, as happened last night local time. It is a tradition in this country to have a representative from the many royal families in the Malay states to announce the date for not just Eid, but for the start of Ramadan and for Eid Adha. The announcement is pre-recorded. In Brunei, it's a slightly different case, the announcement is done by a religious representative, slightly longer duration and broadcast live.

  15. This might sound weird but what if MSNBC had a different person host the 9PM ET hour every night permanently? My idea: Mondays: The Rachel Maddow Show Tuesdays: Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross Wednesdays: Alex Wagner Thursdays: Velshi with Ali Velshi Fridays: Someone from the weekend such as, Ayman Mohyeldin, Alicia Menendez or Katie Phang. Each host would bring a different perspective and different set of topics with them, it would make each night a must watch for MSNBC viewers as they’d only see them once a week. (with the exception of those who have weekends shows.) They could even have Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle team up and bring back Velshi & Rhule on Thursdays if they wanted, the options are endless and would create a strong, stable competitor that viewers would love. Just an idea. Let’s hope they don’t mess this up.

  16. portions of all network evening newscasts are pre-recorded, including headlines and some anchor interviews with experts, newsmakers and correspondents. it’s great that Lester and David made it to the scene, but it didn’t add to or take away from coverage by the anchor being there or not.
