  2. It was posted on this board on Feb. 17 that she joined WNBC. Here is the copy of the stations PR release from then that was part of the post. She is not a 100% on air meteorologist (like Steve Sosner in the past). https://www.nbcnewyork.com/weather/weather-stories/violeta-yas-joins-storm-team-4/3559262/

  3. It's been mentioned before, but Gray owns the trademark "First Alert Weather".

  4. ABC 7 now has its Long Island bureau at Hofstra University. Years ago, CBS 2 has its Long Island bureau here. It was originally a private office in the communications building, but the bureau chief was later moved into the school's radio station office/newsroom. No flash cam position or anything like that. As a student and member of WRHU, I would often see the bureau chief working and making phone calls while the students were having fun being kids. Years after CBS 2 moved out, Hofstra kept the CBS 2 Long Island Bureau signage up to impress tour groups going through. https://abc7ny.com/wabc-long-island-bureau-hofstra-hempstead/11817787/

  5. This might explain all of this LP buying.... Gray announced it has expanded its partnership with Telemundo to carry the network in 34 markets. The 22 new markets are primarily in the Southeast.

  9. The ex-Meredith stations appear to have all got the Gray template on their websites today. Edit: KMOV, KPHO, KPTV, WFSB, WGCL and WGGB have. KCTV, KVVU, WALA, WHNS and WNEM have not yet.

  10. That would likely be a WBRC satellite, as that is on the fringe of the coverage area.

  11. Looks like WPCH (Peachtree TV) will be ramping up its local programming offerings to create more Atlanta centric programming. https://www.ajc.com/life/radiotvtalk-blog/briefs-gray-hires-peachtree-tv-station-manager-capital-b-news-launches-charles-barkley-ponders-leaving-inside-the-nba/VOWKRU6BM5CQRBWFKOOEVTYICM/ Time Warner did this originally after the TBS split, but it was short-lived especially after the operations were turned over to Meredith, replacing the original content with syndicated programs.

  12. And scooping up Telemundo in a top market that has a fair share of Latinos is worth it really.

  13. They're also buying an associated digital media business, and the owners are joining Gray to run strategy for the Telemundo stations. Still doesn't make sense.

  14. WKTB has had full-power standard definition simulcasts on WPXA, and now WSB because the range of the WKTB signal is anemic. But important here; they do have an existing news operation which has done well in the awards department, so Gray is smart to snap them up at that price and give them a true HD simulcast in the market, along with a local ad agency targeting minority audiences, so it's more a $15/$15 million deal for both items, not overpaying for a station on autopilot without local deviation (and which has had solid local ownership before this point willing to pay for subchannel simulcast deals to better the hand they've been dealt). Of additional note...this WGCL news share deal made with Univsion's WUVG in 2017 will likely come to an end, suggesting that it's possible the WKTB buy-out came as a result of the new TelevisaUnivision deciding to put actual resources into the WUVG news department and kill the Meredith agreement.

  15. If they were trying to do that, Gray would be doing a non-license assets “reaper strike” rather than going through the trouble of FCC approval. WGCL has a more than adequate signal, so translators are generally not needed.

  16. Because as the big chains have learned over the last decade, you can replace proven syndicated product with cheap substitutes and people will keep watching. /s

  22. What about WPCH? Sad to say that the station evolved from the groundbreaking WTBS into a local independent station running syndication repeats (mostly at Meredith's behest when they acquired the station from WarnerMedia). While it would nice to use that station as a launching pad for a new-generation SuperStation, it may serve the area better as a full-powered Telemundo station and use the acquired low-power station for their experimentation and content origination (to be expanded in the digital realm). Plus, with their efforts in Cleveland, they can be replicated (and even refined) in Atlanta.

  23. They're in it for the affiliation not the channel position. Odds are Telemundo will wind up on one of WGCL's subchannels.

  24. $30 mil for a low-power Telemundo affiliate? Seems kinda high, even in a top 10 market.

  26. These sets are becoming more room-like, and not in a good way. And what's the deal with the massive "Gray" logo on the right?

  27. I'm curious to why the Gray logo has to be on the front of the desk? KOTA/KEVN have been adding it to their weather graphics as well (and not doing it well).
