Excellent work from the team at World News Tonight (9/18/01). Calm and lightly sensational reporting in the immediate aftermath of the worst terror attack in US history. Compare this to the overblown hype and constant blaring, breaking news graphics that would be applied to something as light as as committee hearing on today's evening news. KFMB, CBS 8 San Diego (April 1967). You'd be hard-pressed to find a mid to late 60s newscast wether local or national that didn't mention Vietnam at least once.1 point

Gosh, another millennium broadcast...I've been looking for Seattle or Yakima coverage for several years with no luck. I found an hour of early AM 'ABC 2000' on a VHS last year, when Asia was still going into 2000 and there was a partial KOMO 6am newscast on it. But no Pacific time celebration(s) yet. KNDO Yakima had local coverage according to the Ellensburg Daily Record, and all three Seattle stations did the same (IIRC, I believe KOMO did leave ABC 2000 behind at the PT midnight). I do have some new clips, it's been a long time since I've posted anything. KAPP 6PM 3/20/97 (open) and a KCRA lifestyle segment taped 11/2/98, from the Noon news1 point

WVEC compilation of clips from September 1990 I just ran across. Included are promos for PrimeTime, a Ted Koppel Report special and a WVEC newsbreak anchored by Barbara Ciara (also sprinkled in are spots for Head of the Class after Billy Connolly replaced Howard Hessemann and an incomplete Cop Rock promo)1 point

NEW finds...About eight minutes of KOMO News 4 at 11, taped 2/1/93 with Dan Lewis and the late Kathi Goertzen Also a KING 5 News open at the end of this from 3/19/90...interesting theme that must have been short-lived. Ed O'Brian is the v/o - not Joe Michaels or NBC promo announcer Danny Dark who did work for KING in the early '90s.1 point

From WVEC's account, I can say with a good bit of confidence this is the oldest complete or nearly complete footage from that station that has surfaced. This is a September 1975 special titled "The Invasion of '75", hosted by a young John Miller and focused on the increase in tourism in Williamsburg and Yorktown (no doubt Busch Gardens opening and the approaching American Bicentennial were major factors)1 point

Revisiting the final years of the Oprah show, it's amazing how well produced it was in terms of aesthetic. Talk shows today look so washed out and cheap. The bright lighting has not helped declining budgets in the age of HD at all. Outside of the quality of the show Oprah generally had the best aesthetic look of all the talk shows at the time. The video walls here blend in nicely. I like how the producers use the portrait effect to blur the background. The lighting isn't too harsh and the high definition looks smooth. It's amazing how far things have gone downhill since 2010 for daytime TV.1 point

An odd 10 second TV station ID from KBSI-TV, Ch. 23 (Fox), Cape Gireadeau, MO, ca. 1990. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAmXxWFJ5Nk The guy running the channel that the above clip is on (That Random Oshawott) has been uploading a bunch of extremely rare stuff from the Cape Gireadeau, MO\Carbondale, IL\Paducah, KY TV market (WSIL-TV, WPSD-TV, KFVS-TV & KBSI-TV.) from the early-mid 80's-90's & later recently. EDIT: For some reason, I can't get the video to embed.1 point

That must have been the last time the Disney Channel was ever off the air for any sort of period, knowing they went off for a few hours every night in their first few years. The bars also have an ID box just like many OTA TV stations would use in that period. That's something new that wasn't on the '88 recording.1 point

25 years ago today, The WB Television Network launched. It was the first of the two eventual predecessors of The CW to launch in January 1995, five days before the United Paramount Network (UPN) made its debut. Here's a look at the commercials that aired during the network's first night (as seen on WLVI in Boston): ...and a couple of teaser commercials for the network's launch:1 point
