  1. That rule has been relaxed, to where even the downtown/riverfront Aurora and Joliet casinos have inked plans to move near their respective expressways.

  3. Now if Nexstar wasnt in BILLIONS of dollars in debt, they should have held out and leased the land to Bally for them to build the casino on, but as we saw with the CBS negotiations earlier this year where WJMN was stripped, Uncle Perry isn't a very good poker player...

  4. It's a rock and a hard place situation though; the Illinois Gaming Board likely requires casino land to be purchased outright and owned (and for some part of it to touch some form of water; even the Des Plaines Rivers casino has stilts with water below its original building), and they've been extremely strict about where casinos in the Chicago area can go and this one will have to be over some water, thus this location (this in-city license was being talked about in the 90s and been under consideration that long).

  6. Given the controversy surrounding this year’s World Cup, broadcasters are bound to be caught between their responsibilities in covering the matches and a journalistic responsibility to cover Qatar’s human rights issues. It appears that Fox’s coverage will not have a strong focus on the human rights aspect of it at all. From Awful Announcing:

  7. With Canada being in the tournament for the first time since 1986, TSN has an on-location presence for the first time; usually they've done the studio segments from their main studio in Toronto (which debuted its current design during the 2015 Women's World Cup). Judging by their preview show, TSN's graphics seem to be an evolution of what they used for 2018, but more gold, black, and navy blue (for 2018 it was more white, red, and gold).

  10. Honestly think after the runoff they should put Kelly at 3pm instead of back at 10am. Kelly has higher ratings and is a better lead off into the 4pm.

  12. I would not have thought a printing plant sale to fund a television network resulting in a Chicago paper being printed in Milwaukee and Milwaukee paper being printed in Peoria would have been a result of the Tribune/Nexstar merger...but here we are!

  13. As confirmed during a investment firm conference earlier today, Nexstar will use the proceeds -- $155 million of net cash -- from the sale of its Chicago property the Freedom Center (to Bally's for a future billion-dollar casino on the site) to invest in operations of The CW. (The pending sale was already publicly disclosed recently.) https://deadline.com/2022/11/nexstar-cw-investment-funded-by-proceeds-from-sale-chicago-property-casino-1235173891/

  14. to my understanding, the news set and newsroom are practically done or close to being done. I just think CBS is tying a lot of loose ends. I do think the actual debut will be in December, latest in January.
