  1. KTRK's look was great when it debuted, but has been tweaked, tinkered with, and butchered to the point where it needs to go.

  2. I get the feeling that the VPN routing traffic within team territories for MLB.tv is much more than the number of BS+ subscribers. I'm sure the numbers for Tennis Channel Plus are also miserably low and starving that sport for exposure they've been losing for over a decade.

  3. And Judge Lopez has ordered Diamond to pay the affected teams in full within 5 days So buckle your seatbelts folks, things is about to get very interesting in a hurry.

  4. For Atlantic subscribers, there's a long article on Chris Licht today. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2023/06/cnn-ratings-chris-licht-trump/674255/

  5. I would call this an improvement, honestly. That gigantic box above the logo never looked good, IMO. Might look even better without a tab over it.

  6. If you're an Apple News+ subscriber, you can read it there too. And yeah, I agree - this article is pretty damning for Licht. Not a good look at all.

  7. boy, Chris doesn’t come across good in this price. Seemingly has no idea what the hell he’s doing

  8. "As I’ve written here before, Standard General may not be the best broadcaster to run the Tegna stations, but it has demonstrated over the past decade that it is a capable and respectable one." This was comical and I nearly laughed out loud. Almost a contradiction in terms. They have done barely anything with the stations they DO own. Poor pay, few resources while adding more work (such as KLKN in Lincoln, NE producing a newscast for...Cape Girardeau , MO?), old equipment, and poor ratings (pretty sure KLKN and WLNE are both last place). I'm curious to know where they've shown they're "capable and respectable."

  9. A few more snaps... I believe last night at 11 was the first time the words "Breaking News" were used on CNN with the new look, and there was nothing special about the graphics. Perhaps the different look will be used for more urgent/less expected breaking stories. (The Breaking News open remains unchanged.) When CNN International's CNN Newsroom airs overnight, there is no flipper in the U.S., so it's just the ET/PT time box. I was wondering where their "promo box" would go and I... was not expecting this.

  10. WCBS news promo for father and son meteorologists Storm and Frank Field. WWOR 9 News (2001) I didn't realize Rolland Smith kept working into the mid 2000s. Really like his vocal delivery.

  11. It sounds crazy, but I kid you not! I don't know what KTRK is thinking, but they haven't had a morning traffic anchor in over two years! All they do is show SkyEye 13 over one accident and it goes something like this: 6:35am -- SkyEye is over the accident at x and y roads 6:40am -- Here's another look at SkyEye over the same accident 6:45am -- Welcome back. Check out that backup because of that same accident 6:55am -- The accident finally cleared. That's literally what happened from a few days ago. They didn't show any Transtar JamCams, any other traffic, and that day didn't even show any drive times. Eyewitness News This Morning is so repetitive these days. It's just so strange with a 3-anchor tag team reading a 4-5 words each in the lead into a story. It's just too choppy.

  12. Here's a collection of most of the new "This is CNN" promos. I think there might be some CNNI-specific ones that aren't on here. https://www.cnncreativemarketing.com/cnn-uncut/#open-overlay These are fantastic – CNN at its best. With this ad campaign, I can look past the pretty bland and underwhelming update of their chyrons.

  13. Who wants an L3 that fits more words in it?!?! Who? That seems to be the big change out of this; more wordy L3s, which this seems to be designed for (they were bad in the old package...and this now looks even worse). I know cable news is trending older and these graphics seem to now be designed as a mobile-first experience, along with being designed to be stripped down for FAST experiences, but the only people that like these graphics are political spokespeople who can have CNN crunch even more inaneness onto the screen. Glad the ticker is gone though; remember they did have a really nice flipper back in 2013, but Zucker had it removed on his day one for the ticker because he was that much of an egomaniac. It has to flash to prevent screen burn-in, which I can predict will be now really obvious for the old package on public TVs that never switch off CNN.

  14. Really, what is their deal, over there? BY MY COUNT (let me know if anything has changed), KTRK puts out 9.5 hours of news, each weekday, as do KABC and WPVI, and yet they have way more anchors. Outside of the morning shows and whatever role Simon is taking on at 10pm on 13, note that 3rd anchors (looking at you, 6abc) are in contributing roles. The question mark count is also for where there are apparent vacancies. I know some of the KTRK folks have other on-air roles, like Winkler and Rivas, but goodness, they're an insanely bloated operation.

  15. P.S. Do you consider Allen Media a top rate broadcaster? LOL Tegna is light years ahead in respectability. Allen is right there at the bottom of the garbage pail with Nexstar, Scripps and Gray.
