  1. What year is this? What were the chances that his first show back would be alongside the old weekend team? "Phil, great to see you. You're like the Tom Brady of meteorologists. Retire for 3 weeks, and you're back!" "Yeah, for three days. Don't get carried away with it."

  2. Nah, I think the primary "West Coast edition" feed of the national shows is still at 5:30pm PT. For a long time, only the LA market aired the national shows in the East Coast-style 6:30pm timeslot, but it's kindof all over the place now. However, if you look around markets out West, the hour-long 6:00pm show (with national news at 5:30) is still pretty commonplace.

  3. Fred made his debut last night as co-host of the Wawa Welcome America concert & fireworks show. He did a good job. Hopefully he'll be behind the anchor desk tonight. If not, hopefully by Monday.

  4. It seems Pacific Time takes a little more liberty with things because of the delay, yet keeps primetime mostly on Eastern's schedule (aside from some "early prime" experiments over the years) So basically Eastern Time is the only time zone that regularly airs network newscasts at 6:30 local time in most markets?

  6. I totally understand the phasing out of male co-anchors during the latter third of last century, for obvious reasons, but as women have broken through and feature more prominently in weather and sports coverage, I don't know why even one-off fill-ins of male co-anchors are still seen as a non-starter. It just seems silly that stations look like they're afraid of the virtually non-existent blowback.

  7. WCBS made another interesting anchor decision this morning- teamed 2 male anchors together (Doug Williams with Dave Carlin). I believe the only other NYC station to do this was WNYW a few years ago? Interesting how 2 women anchors are so commonplace and 2 males are incredibly rare, at least in the NY market.

  8. Well its a dawn of brand new day at WBBH. Hearst completed its acquisition of the station yesterday (6/30). The now-former owners slipped a goodbye message to its Southwest Florida viewers. Bye-Bye Waterman. RIP Bernie.

  9. Let's not forget Lonnie Quinn was a soap opera actor on All My Children before he went on to be a weathercaster at WTVJ and currently CBS 2 (WCBS) New York.

  10. A lot of continuous reading I would assume. Maybe even prefering the vibe and energy of having an on air partner.

  11. It’s kind of odd to see CNN reporting on itself like this, but it’s certainly revealing… https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/26/media/cnn-after-chris-licht-reliable-sources/index.html
