  1. Now can they go ahead and remove her and Jason's bios from the website, or did they lay off the one person who knew how to do that?

  2. Not a surprise at all. That 2 was an appendage that needed to go and the new logo—with the Chicago flag stars—is more Chicago-y than any other Chicago station.

  3. A lot of stations get a clean feed, and since it was during local time (Deco Drive), WSVN preferred to do that and stick with it rather than an awkward rejoin of the network at 8. In network time, stations can do what they want, and it wasn't a 'red alert' event requiring taking the network feed. I've seen a lot of stations do it before because they prefer both to make their own calls and not to be left in the lurch if the network doesn't cover it.

  4. I always get this vibe that WSVN doesn't want to be associated with Fox. Ironically they are the model Fox affiliate. Looking at their coverage of the Biden press conference they did not have any Fox graphics on their feed compared to my local Nexstar/Mission station which does. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I hardly see them use Fox News packages. Very little reference of the Fox network is made on their channel. EDIT: To my recollection the only time they took Fox's coverage was 9/11 My history based assumption is when Ansin ran it he wanted his stations to have strong independent identities so that if they got into another affiliation battle they could stand on their own. WHDH's success post NBC has proven carving out an identity outside of the network is useful.

  5. Just now noticing but WXIA appears to be on a temporary set for the past week.

  6. Fair points. It is interesting though when stations completely de-emphasize network branding. It's like they want the benefits of a network affiliation such as primetime programming and live sports, but they want to have the guise of an independent operation. Now for Fox stations, it's obvious why they would want to distance themselves from the brand.

  7. Jim and Melanie both have young kids, so I'm guessing that's why... especially after watching the Rob Vaughn special. The "FMZ" does unofficially stand for Family Minded Zone. I think that's why Eve is no longer on the noon, either. Just a hunch!

  8. The one in the 1st version of State Street was, and while the current one technically is, it's down most of the time, these days, unless larger set pieces need to be moved in and out if the interview set. Anchors going from one studio to another doesn't require a retraction.

  10. Going back to the streetside studio almost didn't happen AFTER being announced a couple years ago. Lyons prematurely announced moving back to the streetside studio BEFORE getting any permission or approval from bosses above. They actually didn't want the station to do it but eventually gave in to her demand. Also, initial plans for the set were different. The station had their own plans for their own set design customized for the space. The original design included a bunch of "moveable" pieces (similar to the original 2008 set) for a more versatile set with a variety of different uses. That set was rejected from bosses above and the station was told they would be approved for the standard (KCAL) set so a scaled down version was created to fit the space. I believe the interview set is remaining up in the other studio for the time being as it may still be used. Although, I think they moved all the cameras over from that studio. Lyons HATES the music package and that's why they're barely touching any cuts from it. Was told she actually likes the previous 2008 music package but they're not able to go back to it.

  11. Most likely, Sony's The Good Doctor in weekend syndication may soon leave in September same as The King of Queens, game over.

  12. I think KGO's set is really underrated. It has almost everything you'd ever need in a set: a nice home base, a distinct weather area, a unique interview/demo area, and a few different reporter standup positions. The topical graphics that they put in the monitors also always look really sharp. Even though it's pushing eight years old, it has held up very well. If that set debuted today, I think we'd all compliment it. The only thing that's a shame is that they didn't install a larger version of it in the studio that they gave away to KRON instead.
