  1. I give them props for trying different things in order to stand out. But that video walk is almost overwhelming because of its size. I hope that they tinker with the set and make some minor adjustments. I’d like to see a riser behind the desk or something. I did notice that the weather center is unchanged.

  2. Tanya Rivero was just introduced as their new weekend evening anchor by Bill Ritter before she reported a story. She had most recently been at CBS and previously anchored ABC WNN (World News Now), which Liz Cho once anchored many years ago, (obviously). I still remember being pleasantly surprised when she showed up on air on the local news.

  3. I give them credit for trying something new. Is the red a bit harsh? Sure. The Dante's Inferno comment made me laugh. But in an era when most stations are swimming in a sea of similarity, I think it is excellent that Local 10 is branching out. The set will also evolve. How they use that LED wall in week 1 will probably look different than week 101. So while it isn't my personal favorite, I applaud their creative thinking.

  5. I support WPLG trying to break the traditional set mould but BLEH. Best set in market is WSCV/WTVJ or WSVN. Looks like this is what they were aiming for but fell short of. Image from New Zealand. Not quite Europe, but the influence is there.

  7. WSVN is a station atypical of the norm, in every way possible. That's all that needs to be said. That they are a solid #2 among English-language outlets in Miami—in spite of the lack of any synergy opportunities or not being in any larger chain—speaks to how well they read the market and shaped it in a way to also be heavily atypical of the norm. You don't have to be a cheerleader of the station to realize that.

  8. Let me guess, lots of people running for office in Iowa and they want that sweet political $$$. Of course, with the presidential election, if someone drops out, all the better.

  9. Fox’s lowest rated dayparts are when they play pretend news. Old angry white people watch it to be lectured to and indoctrinated, they don’t watch for the news or “news”.

  10. Doesn't change what I'm saying. None of them are actual "news" channels in the common sense (heck, NewsNation spends more time airing Blue Bloods reruns than they do running actual newscasts). MSNBC is a talk channel with decent amounts of news in the daytime, but they are largely opinion in primetime. CNN is still trying to clean up from the Zucker Era of Disaster and may very well not please anyone in the end. Fox merely is just flat-out blatant about not being a news channel, they don't care. They don't need any advertisers because of lucrative retransmission fees they reap the rewards from on a continuous basis. Contrary to what others have suggested elsewhere in the thread, there's really no redeeming part of that channel whatsoever. It attracts no one but old people for a reason. Cable talk as a whole needs to be thrown into obsolescence where it belongs.

  12. Besides the website archives being dumped for the cable channels it sounds like corporate is about to start another slow-roll cull of big name talent via early retirement (just like the New York and LA offices are heavily filled with Robert Half contractors)...this can only end badly and I feel like Skydance/Son of Oracle is about to give us an even uglier replay of the Tisch era for CBS.

  13. The way they use video and graphics behind the anchors is creative, and the fully seamless screen gives a lot of flexibility. Hard to watch that deep red all over, but when they go blue or other backgrounds it's very watchable and something distinctive. Beats the sets in a corner look. But not quite ABC O&O kind of timeless professionalism.
