  1. WPLG was inconsistent in rolling out new everything (except for music). New set came first, then new opens, and just within the last week or so, new graphics. Now I'm not saying that's the right or wrong way to do, but WPLG was inconsistent. At least WSVN's new everything back in 2015 launched everything new at the same time: new Newsplex at the time, new version of its music, new graphics, new opens, new everything. WPLG wasn't ready to launch everything obviously and it clearly showed over the last month or two.

  3. WKBN and WYTV have been doing them for the past several years. Since newspapers are on the verge of extinction (and Youngstown's Vindicator is a zombie newspaper operated out of Warren) TV and web (funeral homes and legacy.com) are the main source now.

  4. Agreed. Of the big 3 I think ABC is strongest in terms of on air talent. They are the weakest journalistically however, given their flare for entertainment and tabloid stories. Examples being WNT, 20/20 and GMA. While CBS is the weakest personality wise, they are the best in journalistic quality as evidenced by Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes, and CBS Mornings. NBC is a good medium between the two.

  5. I do think the way they do news (a mix of local news, national news, weather, celebrity news, police pursuits, and fun banter) just works for the all day news format. It also helps that their news is properly funded. This isn't some broke Sinclair station producing 16 hours of news a day, they have the staff and resources to cover LA news properly. Yeah if you watch it all day long non stop it could get boring but you could say the same thing watching hours and hours of court shows or talk shows all day. They cover serious news when needed yet allow talent to have fun in a way that is unparalleled to any other station. Their talent is so beloved by viewers that they can basically do a whole hour of them having an unscripted conversation (Off The Clock) and it works. It's also worth pointing out that 15 years ago they only had a morning newscast and hour at 10:00pm. Daytime used to be full of Jerry Springer, Maury, Steve Wilkos, and other conflict talkers. Repeats of Family Guy aired in the evening. They slowly built up over the years starting with news at times when other stations had entertainment programming and then expanding to compete against the other newscasts head on.

  6. All those hours of news, it better be covering every city and county

  7. WBBM, KPIX, WWJ, and my hometown CBS station WFOR will all give up their 9:00am news to carry the third hour of CBS Mornings, known as CBS Mornings Plus. KCBS is the other one carrying it but local news there in the morning is on KCAL instead. https://www.nexttv.com/news/tony-dokoupil-adriana-diaz-to-host-cbs-mornings-plus?utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=Tony+Dokoupil%2c+Adriana+Diaz+To+Host+‘CBS+Mornings+Plus’&utm_campaign=TVB's+Abby+Auerbach+To+Retire

  8. I'd like to think Turner's presence in Atlanta started the path to Georgia becoming a filming hotbed. Meanwhile, Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr is leaving: https://deadline.com/2022/12/barbara-starr-to-depart-cnn-pentagon-1235194652/
