  1. CBS News says heated Ta-Nehisi Coates interview did not meet editorial standards after criticism "CBS News executives said Monday that a heated morning show interview with acclaimed author Ta-Nehisi Coates, during which his new book was compared to “extremist” writings, did not meet the network’s editorial standards."

  2. Interestingly I'm seeing WBBH WZVN Fort Myers go wall to wall, but (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't see any Tampa stations doing so (yet). Ironically, Tampa/Sarasota is supposed to be the market that gets a more direct hit.

  3. If Southwest Florida is affected (again), it will be another test of the WINK facility, as they even took on water from Helene. At least the other stations have out of town resources to fall back on if they have to abandon their facilities. Given the vulnerability of Tampa and St. Petersburg, how much at risk are their stations there? WFLA may be in a bad spot, so I'd bet they get WKRG or WMBB on standby to help out with coverage.

  4. I'm surprised as well.. It would make more sense... It's kinda like Indy's WXIN/WTTV -- they have 2 completely different news operations but share some resources... They easily could've puuled a KCBS/KCAL

  5. Am I the only one who watched the interview? Tony didn't suggest that Palestinians shouldn't exist; that's a ridiculous thing to post. There was no disrespect from Tony. His questions were certainly direct but were asked with a calm voice and a clear invitation for Coates to respond openly. Have any of you lobbing criticism at Tony actually read Coates' book? Coates explained that he wrote about the Israel-Gaza conflict exclusively through the lens of the plight of the Palestinians and did not at all discuss the Israeli perspective or the violence they've endured because he felt the Israeli perspective was widely covered elsewhere in media. So of course it's fair game for a journalist to ask why he chose to do that and the potential implications of that. If you write controversial or one-sided points of view in a book and go on a hard news network's morning show to discuss it, you should expect pointed questions about those views. This is the network of 60 Minutes; not People Magazine.

  6. It's not news that Fox isn't news. And yet it is still stunning to read these texts. (Summary: https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/16/media/fox-news-stars-executives-court-documents/index.html) Fox is NOT an organization simply presenting a conservative spin on the news and fighting to prove their point of view with facts. Instead, they are knowingly LYING to their viewers by feeding them baseless conspiracy theories to make money. Otherwise, these viewers have been conditioned to seek these lies out from other outlets, and Fox can't afford to lose their viewers. They've decided that lies are good for business, but it's awful for a representative democracy and hurts all of us. Tucker wanted to FIRE a reporter who had the nerve to fact check the former guy via tweet. He said this act of truth telling was "measurably hurting the company." (That tweet was soon deleted.) Bret Baier, the guy Fox often points to when trying to claim to be a news organization, asked the president of Fox to rescind the network's correct call of Biden winning Arizona. (Fox was the first to accurately make this call, days before other organizations. They soon FIRED their politics editor and Washington bureau chief, both of whom were involved in this accurate projection.) Fox. Isn't. News.
