  1. The studio probably hasn't gotten the upgrade yet but the package for creative services has been rolled out to them. I've seen this on several Gray stations prior to their launch since it takes more to change out the on-air graphics than to deploy the templates for the promo editors to use.

  2. These decisions have been made. Mike replaces Bill. Pedro replaces Mike. Josh prefers the field. He does not want to be stuck behind the desk. Same with Jim Dolan. Best of the best - but prefers the field. Even Tim Fleisher - who anchored weekends and mornings on and off countless times preferred reporting - which is why he never stayed behind the desk for long. Chanteé had her chance at the weekend spot - but her delivery is more for storytelling than anchoring - so she was passed for Tanya Rivero - an outsider. I get it - armchair news directing is a thing - but as I’ve said - these moves have been in the works for quite a while - and everyone is going to have to get used to Mike at 11 and Pedro with Shirleen.

  3. Jeopardy! EP Davies disclosed as much a few weeks ago on that show's podcast. The goal is for a likely-next day option to be available at the start of the 2025-26 season.

  4. Just curious on a few things. Has Michelle ever been considered for any openings or is she comfortable on weekend AM? What about Toni Yates? Seems like she is the main weekend AM fill-in but no where else. Lastly, Lauren Glassberg. Was there any thought to putting her on weekend evenings, or is her anchor role only as a fill-in?

  5. Yes. He did well in evenings in my market at WSVN 7 for a good number of years. I think he has what it takes.

  6. I’m not sure why some expected a total refresh. Basically Bally’s ended their naming deal and FanDuel stepped in. When (if) Diamond/Sinclair emerges from bankruptcy, FanDuel may invest but won’t be the controlling owner based on what has been disclosed.

  7. Everything will be going back to the original studios. I think it's a few months yet before everything is back to normal.

  8. They're not there now, but apparently Gray is on board to dedicate subchannels of WSLN (Rockford) and WNDU (South Bend) to this service. I'd hope that the secondary channel would be static when not in use to optimize bandwidth. I could see a future where Yvonne Stroud (whose husband Joe died in April) sells WJYS soon. They are probably making good money from this arrangement, which makes sense when considering that WJYS has primarily been a paid programming purveyor in 33+ years of broadcasting.

  9. When you're trying to start a new sports network in an environment in which most RSNs are struggling, the last thing you want to do is pick a generic name. Given that the Bulls, Sox and Blackhawks are pretty bad (and likely will be for some time); a cool/interesting name would at least drum up interest in the network. I see this as a missed opportunity from a marketing pov.

  10. It's funny, this is how Fox Sports Chicago ended about 20 years ago, with those teams and the Cubs leaving there.

  11. A big loss in Gulf Coast television. Mel Showers, who reported and anchored for WKRG in Mobile for 50 years, has passed away. https://www.wkrg.com/news/business/mel-showers-broadcasting-pioneer-and-legendary-news-5-anchor-dies/ Being the local legend that he was, all of the local stations (and even AL.com) covered the story as well. https://weartv.com/news/local/mel-showers-beloved-mobile-news-anchor-and-trailblazer-dies-at-78# https://www.fox10tv.com/2024/10/19/longtime-local-news-anchor-mel-showers-passes-away-78/ https://mynbc15.com/news/local/longtime-mobile-news-anchor-mel-showers-has-died# https://www.al.com/news/2024/10/beloved-mobile-news-anchor-mel-showers-dead-at-78.html
