  2. CBS Newscasts arent exactly first place outside of 60 Mins and Sunday Morning. IMO expanding news output doesn't make sense for CBS. US broadcast television schedules are already saturated with local and national news. Yet another newscast would just be just more of the same: Trump, wildfires and the and the lastest mass shooting. CBS is going for a national/local synergy look. Im not opposed to a local set design for national if it still looks good I find the DC set pretty simple. Its just a room full of video walls, but it looked great once they darkened the graphics from light to navy blue for CBSEN.

  3. I agree. Glad they went with something simple and not as grand, if you will, as the DC set. And just as I predicted, they did change the orientation of the set (… pats self on the back).

  5. Sure seems like they're going to be anchoring together. Interested to see tomorrow and going forward.

  7. It sounds like they're shooting for something closer to 60 minutes. That's how Dubois described it. Nevertheless, I agree that whatever format is presented, they give it time and don't abandon it (for, as you said, New York featured stories). The vibe I'm getting is that they want to do what you would see at the local level (news, weather and a politics rundown (instead of sports). Could be wrong, but that's what my gut tells me. Looking at the boarder picture, I like that CBS has attempted to break down the silos (60 minutes, CBS Sunday Morning, etc...) and create a common thread (through graphics, sets, formats, etc...) across not only CBS News, but also including the local CBS O&Os as part of the process. For too long, everybody did their own thing instead of working together as one. Glad that they see the value in 'synergy.'

  8. I didn’t feel that the Washington DC set was grand. This looks much warmer. I wonder if they will keep the music. I’d like the Dan Rather era music to make a comeback.

  9. Don't forget the BBC 10'oclock news and ITV's News At Ten (the first network to do so). Holy cow this set looks amazing! Just like we thought, studio 47!

  10. Snippets of the new set as the new duo was interviewed by Maurice's WCBS colleague Mary Calvi. I'm not seeing Deborah Norville on there as often these days. I'm really hoping the set lighting will look as dim on CBS's cameras because this looks great. I love the diverse landscapes in the background. It makes the broadcast seem more nationally oriented, and not just New York City/East Coast centric. It reminds me of Good Morning America's intro from the early Gibson/Sawyer era. In this era of washed out HD, dark lighting and warm colors look good.

  11. I just don't understand launching an entire new station like this when KUNP would be better served providing eastern Oregon a KATU satellite and just pushing the Blazers to an upgraded 2.2 TBD subchannel (they do have translators on the same stick but it's baffling they just never did anything with it outside Univision in the digital age). Without the NBA, there's literally no purpose to this station without (and it's sad to type this) a MyNet affiliation at the very least outside continuing Sinclair's bizarre mission to denigrate Portland's very existence through their local and national newscasts, and three hours of advertorial programming in a row during the day? You might as well just offer three hours to Les Schwab, because those folks will be the only ones watching it captivly in the waiting room (and thanking Steve Jobs for the iPhone to avoid being stuck watching it).

  12. That is their new severe weather ticker system Called MAX Alert Live. (We just updated here as well.) All Gray stations, when they switch over to MAL, will look like this regardless of whether they have GrayONE or not. (Some stations still have the old :LIVEWire system and have not converted over to the new software yet.)

  13. Today's counterprogramming on Merit Street against football...Dr. Phil embedded in ICE raids in Chicago. Even FNC wouldn't do this because they wouldn't want to be sued for filming people without permission, but I think any last guardrail against responsible broadcasting for Dr. Phil has been long passed. This is something you'd see from a YouTube streamer, not someone who used to at least have some respect in the industry. Both him and TBN are being very highly irresponsible and going against everything they used to stand for; the elder Crouches weren't good people but at least at the end of the day they still never would have gone anywhere near this or worried about ratings outside their niche.

  14. Actually, Estrella TV airs a prime time news block consisting of flagship newscast Cierre de Edición at 10:00pm ET (previously at 10:30 until the end of 2023) and Estrella News’ 24 Horas at 10:30. (Both programs are rebroadcast back-to-back the hour after their initial broadcast.) Univision and Telemundo both run hour-long news blocks in the 11:00pm ET hour (technically considered to be part of the “late fringe” slot); on both networks, the first half-hour is a rebroadcast of their respective flagship 6:30pm newscasts (since many of their stations run local news at 11:00/10:00) and the second half-hour is a standalone live broadcast. (Until 2021, Univision aired a condensed half-hour version of its daily newsmagazine Primer Impacto at 11:00, leading into Noticiero Univision: Edición Nocturna.) The only English-language broadcast network that airs an evening newscast outside of the 6:30pm slot by default is MeritTV (Dr. Phil’s network), which runs their hour-long News on MeritTV at 7:00 and 10:00pm ET (though the latter is a rebroadcast of the earlier program).

  15. A few brief thoughts: Not sure Wolf has ever co-anchored a broadcast (other than virtually for special broadcasts). He's been flying solo in studio for decades. Will be interesting to see. Hopefully Pamela learns from his direct interview style. Tapper is a strong anchor and has been Wolf's heir apparent, so not surprised he'll take the 5-7 slot, though I'm disappointed it'll be as part of The Lead. I would rather see him become host of Situation Room 5p-7p than move The Lead into that slot. I never loved the format, pace, organization, graphics, music, etc of The Lead. I think it lacks the same gravitas that gives Situation Room a commanding presence. Somewhat surprised Alex Marquardt doesn't fit in to the succession plan given he's been a primary fill-in on Sit Room and done a strong job. However, he was a central figure in CNN's recent defamation suit which probably didn't help him.

  16. Oddly, they used Arial Regular instead of Barlow for the days on the seven-day graphic, too.
