What in the hell possessed INSP to incinerate $393M like that in less than three years? That's Enron levels of fraud. Did Marc Rowan (Apollo's CEO) have incriminating evidence against INSP CEO David Cerullo and threatened to release it if INSP didn't blow all that money on KOKI, WHBQ and a bunch of spare parts and scrap? Cause there's no other way to explain why they would engage in such a horrible transaction.2 points

Another legendary television and radio personality passes on, this time Wink Martindale. Mr. Martindale passed away today at the age of 91, at Eisenhower Health Center in Rancho Mirage, California (near Palm Springs). He was a radio personality for many decades, but most notably he was the host of various game shows including Gambit, Debt, Headline Chasers (a show he co-created with Merv Griffin), the 1987-88 version of High Rollers, and the show that perhaps made him more famous--Tic Tac Dough. He was also one of the first media personalities that helped introduced Elvis Presley in the mid-50s, when Martindale hosted a local dance show on WHBQ-TV in Memphis, and brought Presley on as a guest performer. In later years, he and a couple of associates maintained a YouTube channel that features old and obscure game shows, including dozens of pilots that didn't become series.2 points

Well, the trend has been (mainly with former news anchors) starting their own platforms, Substack, Podcasts, etc. She jumped on the podcast bandwagon, but also did something that may surprise some of you. She started her own AI clone to provide her own Weather AI company in partnership with The Weather Company.1 point

You would have thought they would have rebounded after WJLA was tanked by Sinclair, but Tegna's gonna Tegna....1 point

Mitch Carr (remember him from NewsNation's Early Morning before it was cancelled?) is joining WDBJ 7 Roanoke. With this, and Jean Jadhon's retirement, there will be a shuffling of anchor lineup changes at the station. This includes longtime anchor Kimberly McBroom moving to midday and 3pm. https://www-wdbj7-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.wdbj7.com/2025/04/14/exciting-new-chapter-your-hometown-station/?outputType=amp1 point

Nah. They should’ve learned their lesson by now. They tried to play fantasy football with their morning show, hiring FOUR anchors away from Fox 5 and it basically propelled them from 5th place to 4th. Plus as far as main anchors go, Lorenzo Hall is pretty darn good.1 point

How about some Major League Pickleball? Gray Media will be offering that too! Atlanta Bouncers on Peachtree Sports Network, Carolina Hogs on Palmetto Sports and Entertainment, St. Louis Shock on Matrix Midwest, and Columbus Sliders on Rock Entertainment Sports Network. https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/major-league-pickleball-gray-media-set-local-media-partnerships/1 point

I hope even if they call, he has the good sense to say no. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose by coming back. I hope Leon finds peace, sobriety, and health in his next chapter. As someone who spent 15 years in a newsroom, for every person who has a public/visible fall from grace due to alcohol or other substance abuse, there are just as many, if not more, who battle it silently or are in denial about it and manage to fly under the radar. There's no way to quantify the why - but the combination of odd hours, lack of balance, constant bad news content, and high-pressure work environment all likely play a role. Candidly, it's a big reason why I got out when I did. I saw the life outcomes of unmarried or divorced men over 40 who stay in TV news. The odds are not in your favor.1 point

I was gonna say… No station really has the money these days to pay anchors. WUSA and Tegna is probably looking to unload.. not add.1 point

WTLV/WJXX has finally named its replacement for Tim Deegan as its next chief... Lewis Turner got the gig.1 point

Leon was never really a ratings draw, but WUSA9 also never really made many smart decisions either, so who knows? Can he one man band???1 point

Not sure if I’ve just missed this for months but switching stations today while traveling and the Fox Local app listed FOX50 in Raleigh as an option and it streams WRAL newscasts. I think they are the only non-Fox O&O on the app. Thought it was a little weird… maybe they’re extending the tech to other companies who don’t want to go through the hassle of building an app to stream? Makes sense for a company the size of Capitol.1 point

Hello everyone, Invision Community, the software that powers this forum, is preparing a major upgrade that we will likely be moving to in the coming months. While there are a number of changes and improvements that I'm looking forward to, one change may negatively impact some folks around here. Logging in to the forum will require entering the account's email address, instead of the account's username. This will not affect you if you're using Google or Discord as a method to login. How can you prepare for this? It's easy! Check the email address associated with your account by clicking here and making sure it's up to date. This is also an important thing to do in case you ever get locked out of your account and need to change your password. There will be additional notice made before this change happens, and I am considering turning the feature on before the software upgrade as a way to prepare. Please note: for security reasons, under no circumstances will I disclose an account's email address. If you get locked out of your account because your email is not current/you are unsure of what email is tied to your account, you will need to create a new account. Please don't hesitate to reply here with any questions you may have. -Weeters1 point

Would WUSA even hire him....if he even wanted to work again? That would be his third station in DC after WJLA and WRC...0 points

A sad day to report on SoCal broadcasting. Ed Arnold has died. I know lists aren't allowed but please allow this exception because he truly did it all in his 60 YEARS of service to broadcasting in SoCal... Joined KTLA in the late 1960s as announcer/sportscaster. Joined KABC in 1975, but left in 1986. Returned to KTLA in 1986 and stayed until 1999. The voice of KCET. Sports personality for 1110 KRLA (now KWVE), 97.1 KHTZ (now KNX-FM), and 710 KMPC (now KSPN). Co-host and managing editor of Real Orange for KOCE. Announcer for the internationally televised Hour of Power religious program. He died last Thursday after suffering from heart disease for many years. He was 86. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/ed-arnold-dead-broadcaster-los-angeles-tv-stations-ktla-kabc-1236189868/0 points

I am sure WUSA9 is salivating at the chance to hire him. Kristen Pierce out at WISN after 3 years: https://www.jsonline.com/story/entertainment/television-radio/2025/04/08/wisn-tv-channel-12-co-anchor-kristin-pierce-leaves-milwaukee-station/82996318007/ This really shows the state of the business that a top-rated Hearst station can’t hold onto talent anymore. WISN has become a bit of a revolving door ever since the old guard started retiring.0 points

For some reason I thought the 6 had the same short loop, but perhaps that was just a memory from a one-off before on a busy day. I don't usually catch the opens -- and it was in the background when I first heard the switch to Philadelphia; so you may be right.0 points
