  1. If you're wondering the "why" for this project... Mainly why it took this long... The exact thing I expected they were waiting for happened. Early last year, plans were released for a major redevelopment of the area surrounding the current building. Of course, they were released before the move was announced, and the current building is notched out of the development, but that means their property suddenly became a lot more valuable. WFAA will likely be next, the city of Dallas just bought the old Dallas Morning News building (after the proposed redevelopment fell apart) to secure more land for a $3.7 billion redevelopment of the convention center, which is heavily focused on redeveloping the exact area that WFAA occupies.

  2. I’m just seeing the 10am soft set for the first time, this is such a remarkable improvement and sharp look for WABC. Gives me hope that the GMA set won’t be so bad.

  6. $17/hr starting rate but asking for a Bachelors degree. You can get that at Dunkin Doughnuts. I recall a news reporter group page on Instagram asking posters what the worst company they've worked was. To my surprise, Sinclair was the second most common response after Nexstar. Not hard to see why.

  7. I agree the program names are generic, but they could be trying to create a brand (i.e. Today Show / Tonight Show, etc...) with the Weeknight and the Weekend AM/PM. My immediate concern is having a network president who may favor programs, people, etc... she had a hand in creating/developing instead of doing what's best for the overall network.

  8. I just noticed this on their Facebook page. The font looks different and no CBS eye. KWTX might be the next with GrayONE soon so keep an... eye... on them (see what I did there? )

  9. If you are on instagram, you can search KUSI-TV under places and look under the Recent tab. There’s so many pictures and videos of the studio and newsroom. The set up pretty much looks like how NBC Bay Area and Telemundo is with studios next to each other with a massive newsroom. It’s kind of hard to see the KSWB side of the KUSI newsroom since the studio is dark so you can’t tell if their studio is even done or not. Do we even know when their move in date is since they’re still at the other building?! It would be nice if they kept their 360 desk. It’s so unique how BDI designed it. At least yay it’s an upgrade for KUSI but like you said, they never mentioned its debut or gave us a tour of the new set at least. I feel like the set is still underwhelming with them having a newscast with segments that could’ve utilized more studio space besides a desk, an interview area and green screen. Not sure about the tight shots. It’s pretty much up to the director in the control room to call the shots. Remember, KUSI is more of an older audience, they don’t care about studio shots and jib cameras panning in the studio. Unlike FOX5, they are all about that stuff. its also still surprising while looking at the videos on instagram that the newsroom is still dark. I mean all the computers and TV Monitors are not functioning and it’s almost 6 months in after the remodel.

  10. It looks like WTVY has taken up the last 10 or so minutes of their weeknight 10pm news in favor of... First Alert Weather Extra. No, this is not a separate half-hour program like WBRC or a weekly program like KWTX, its included into the weeknight 10pm news and for a small market like this, it works considering they find enough content to fill the time.

  11. You think that would stop those suspected companies? Apollo can sell the group as a complete unit and one of these suspected companies could have quietly negotiated a TBA in the background. Once the Apollo sale is complete, whomever buys the stations, immediately sells the radio stations to the 3rd-party. Apollo has no recourse. The entire idea that the FCC grants licenses or allows local broadcasting to serve the public interest went out the window, when the greedy corporations began slashing budgets, experienced journalists and solely providing shareholder value, instead of catering to their communities. You made your point as if crippling the visual storytelling medium wasn't the entire purpose. Really, the 3 biggest station groups - Sinclair, Nexstar and Gray are lead by Conservative CEOs who are more interested in pushing their own opinions and sucking the assets out of local journalism than providing a public good. Why do we think NewsNation is still around? Sean Compton is a close friend of Donald Trump's. Nexstar's local stations are being siphoned from resources and Nexstar retrans agreement with cable vendors must include NewsNation, which both Neilsen and Comscore demonstrate has little value, but Nexstar keeps taking valuable assets away from their stations to propup Donald Trump's friend. So I call bullshit on the idea that this isn't the entire intent of these organizations and we cannot stop it.
