  2. That MyNetworkTV was barely ever a thought...they did not even want to entertain the idea of My Local 10, even as late night filler.

  3. This all confirms to me that GMA First Look will be the LAST ABC program on WPLG at 4am and the FIRST ABC program on the new ABC Miami at 4:30am. https://wsvn.com/entertainment/a-new-era-abc-miami-debuts-on-aug-4-on-channels-7-2-and-18/?FBWSVN&fbclid=IwY2xjawLxFjxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHnbhHq0hdNF9eXK91DkilKcWMQPDYdJ-A38QlQkVhXBekUWHnxgJxa31wYrU_aem__ItMrJ45l-FQrChHZWQ-5g

  4. Missed this a couple weeks ago, but in “about time” news WDJT is moving Bill Walsh back to weekdays starting in late August as Mike Strehlow retires from regular anchoring (he will continue as host of CBS 58 Sunday Morning) https://www.jsonline.com/story/entertainment/television-radio/2025/07/08/bill-walsh-named-news-co-anchor-at-noon-4-p-m-at-channel-58/84503523007/

  5. Meanwhile South Park (a Paramount entity) just premiered its 27th season featuring a naked President Trump with a microscopic private part in a relationship with The Devil --- just typing it out sounds insane lol. A character even urges others to be quiet before Paramount cancels them. We'll see what the blow back from that is. While Colbert's cancellation may definitely be influenced by Trump I doubt it's the sole reason given, being that other Paramount entities feature even sharper Trump criticism.

  6. I'm impressed this insane conversation has sustained itself for weeks now. Really great job everyone.

  7. Nope! That's trash TV programs right there, and I'm glad WPLG didn't pick them up. We don't need those programs here, so no. Not a bad thing.

  9. Nexstar's Hagerstown MD station cosplaying as a DC station, WDVM, switched at least part of their morning newscast to "Sunrise on the Hill" - with anchors Cory Smith and Hillary Howard. They're now airing The Hill's "Rising" at 9am as well.

  10. Not - "It's really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!" What does Cronkite have to do with the Late Show? Nothing. At least that awful, hateful creature Ellen is gone finally. Now the three windbags will be gone. All through their own doing. Losing 80% of viewers handed to them by Jay Leno and David Letterman, losing $40 mil a year in revenue, all while making $15 million a year is reason enough. Anybody else would've been fired long ago. There's nothing to salvage from Johnny Carson's legacy anyway.

  11. No. It is said that viewers hated Dan Rather's Texas vernacular and his signoff but not enough to tune out. He was #1 from 81-89 I believe. Then ABC brought Peter Jenings and he took the lead, #1 from 1989 until '96 when Brokaw started placing first. Whatever issues legacy media has are all self-inflicted. I'm a bit of a Maurice DuBois fanboy but I find the new format appealing. He and John Dickerson come off solid. Hasn't made me watch because I no longer care but what little I've seen, I liked. It didn't make me want to tune out

  12. This random middle of the summer, middle of the week axing does not suggest a primarily financial move. There is no show on their air that is pulling the numbers from its respective glory days. The soaps are a shell of their old selves, Price chugs along with nowhere near the audience it once had, etc. But the guy who savaged their capitulation to tyranny, he goes first. The saying “doesn’t pass the small test” applies in spades.

  13. Hey, from a housekeeping standpoint for the mod staff, some users need to do better and actually look to make sure there isn't already a thread for a certain topic before posting their own. Just had to merge four threads into one on this news. Too many frustrated, aspiring journalists around here that are too focused on being first on stuff. End of rant. Then cancel everything else, too. 60 Minutes, the Evening News, The Price is Right, and the Late Show are the absolute last things that should be touched, if you're trying to look competent and inspire confidence. I'm not giving Trump credit, but there is a very obvious message being sent here. Either that, or you might start seeing other top talent walking across the network before they get told they can't get paid.

  15. I’d tend to agree with that. I’m just imagining reporters of the past like Max Robinson in the age of social media where you’re inclined to share as part of the engagement strategy. Imagine Mark Giangreco or Steve Bartelstein in the current age of social media given how unhinged they could be on air at times?

  16. nah. The old guard just didn't have socials so the only way you'd know someone on TV had disordered personality would be to work with them or somehow interact. God forbid if they're the ND's or GM's favorite... newsies can tell stories. Just recently we learned about Barbara Walters, although discerning people would've picked up on what she's really like just by watching her interviews. The late Ike Seamans from WTVJ said this in the late 2000s too - most new talent coming in wants to see themselves on TV, not do journalism. The socials made this even more apparent and now they get to feed off it twice - TV *and* socials. All that's much harder to hide nowadays probably why you're noticing it and think there's more of it. It's always been there. Come to think of it the news business, from my interactions with people within it for 25 years, tends to attract a lot of unsavory people, narcissists primarily, who can feed off small things like saying they work at so and so station up to the fact they're on air and known. This especially true of the big-name stations. Which isn't to say there are no nice, normal people. I don't think you should let the messyness stop of you from trying out a career you might enjoy. I believe there's a video of Marilyn Mitzell, who used to work at WSVN, on Youtube where she specifically tells people - keep your head down, stay away from office drama - simple yet 90% effective imo. And if you land at a shop whose management does not suffer employee drama it very likely would end up being a very fulfilling career.

  17. It's amazing that Steve Wilkos and Karamo have no affiliates in Miami since Scripps dropped the former from WSFL a couple of years ago. You'd think WPLG probably would picked them up. The closest both shows get to the market are WTVX and WTCN in West Palm Beach, respectively.

  18. This!! I firmly believe money was a factor. It is a 200-person staff, and it is costly to produce. Given that they have been in cost-cutting mode for a while, it is logical that they see a big financial upside in axing this show. But it can also be true that the timing is suspect. The claim in their press release that it was "purely" financial is dubious at best. This is a problem that CBS made. When you pay out a multimillion-dollar settlement to avoid a lawsuit that should be in your wheelhouse to fight against, all your future decisions are viewed through an entirely new lens. If they had defended themselves in open court, they would be on better ground when they claim that shuttering their late-night franchise was exclusively fiscally motivated. But after that settlement, they will never get that benefit of the doubt. Sure, it's a cost-cutting move, but very few people - including myself - will see it solely as a balance sheet decision.
