  1. It would be suicide to move what is WJAR to 6, or to change its call letters. WJAR historically is the dominant station in RI. Dead air often beat Ch. 12 and 6 combined. It is one of NBC's oldest affiliates going back to radio and started using the three toned chime that is synonymous with NBC today. It's a long heritage and habit in RI despite Sinclair's attempts to destroy the station. I assume Disney isn't too happy with this move, but they have no where to go. The Providence market is the future. All anglo commercial stations (not including ION), are now owned by Nexstar and Sinclair. Welcome to the future if both companies get their way with a compliant FCC. RI viewers are the losers.

  2. It also looks like the bar will turn black for primetime programming, if The Weekend Primetime was any indication last night. In general it looks like a mix between the previous MSNBC graphics, CBC News (with the behavior of names/titles being separate from the L3), and a sports studio show (where I see centered text like this a lot more often)

  3. Breaking news graphics turn red and black, with the "bug bar" also turning black. I'm still not sure how they decide where to put people's names/titles.

  4. I'm not sure it was adjusted up so much as the black bar below was removed, exposing a tiny bit of the picture below. Alex Witt Reports had a new look, as expected. It looks like the newscasts (as opposed to opinion oriented shows) will use blue lower-thirds. I don't like how most of the headline texts appear squished.

  5. I ran into this on accident but the answer is the USA Network app. Like the old NBA app you can watch all of Versant's networks through that.

  6. Corporations are so weird. According to the press Ive read. Versant will still be held by Comcast as a separate company. So one part of the company (Versant) is paying another part of the company (SkyNews) for a service. Its like robbing Peter to pay Paul. SkyNews hasnt been profitable. SkyNews needs to do something. Its a different channel than it use to be. Its BBC-lite in tone these days, whereas it used to be kinda punchy and lively. Its very sedate and dry these days. Which hasnt helped garner viewers. But i do prefer to watch it over the Beeb. They dont have the reach of CNN, AJE, or BBC but they do have a bigger global focus than most US networks. Its wild that NBC cant figure out how to leverage an asset that they already own. Now that Ms.NOW is gonna use SkyNews, what does that mean for NBC NEWS NOW simulcasting SkyNews?

  7. Watching dayside NewsNation and it's getting to be very clear that they barely ever need the studio or even a mic, because their anchors never get to appear on screen unless they're just handing off to the pundit to blather on, and usually it's in a quad box to add insult to injury while the same video loops over and over for ten minutes. It's absurd; LiveNow and Local News Now do a much better job showing off their talent during their shows, and I couldn't name one of those folks in a lineup. They'll only show the talent on this channel that they overpaid for to get ratings that are much worse than the edited movies WGN America they showed in primetime a decade back. Sorry Markie, Marnie and Nichole (not sorry to any of the talent that saw the writing on the wall two years back and fled). This network outside of primetime can literally be handled by their local stations, and it's no wonder to see why cable providers really don't want to have to carry it in order to carry a local Nexstar station. They'd be better off just airing various WGN, WPIX and KTLA newscasts and probably get better ratings for it to boot.

  8. Byron Allen saw the reaction to the 20 ads on-screen for the "NBA Finals Presented by YouTube TV" and decided he could be even more obnoxious today as the sponsor/broadcaster for the CIAA football championship.
