  1. That would be stupid to get rid of a highly recognized global brand.

  2. I have a better chance of being named People’s “sexiest man alive.”

  3. This woman is so damn insufferable. The speculation “of her demise” was coming from the CBS Broadcasting Center which she seemed to understand fairly well when she was arguing with paparazzi outside the building a few months ago. Her statement is true to form with her pathetic character.

  4. Two retransmission revenue streams (minus the cut network gets), two stations worth of advertising revenue with the opportunity to bundle both stations to advertisers, operating cost/scale advantages over the other single station operators in the market. Realistic added costs: Power bill for second transmitter, programming costs, maybe a handful of WTVQ staffers added to WLEX employee headcount post closing.

  5. Scripps is hell bent on making themselves a cluster before they go under...so now two stations can be at risk instead of just the one! WTVQ is no prize, but a neutered version of it under Scripps is worse than a standalone station, even by someone like Morris.

  6. It puts the rest of Morris on the clock too. Nexstar would be a good fit - except for their obsession with national coverage.

  7. I don't know if Scripps knows but since courts nuked the ban on owning 2 stations that are in the top 4 why not. $15.8 mil and they'll provide WTVQ with services, so $$$ for Scripps. Stripping out the news department is further savings so there's upside for not a lot of money

  8. CBS has blown up every element of the morning show since "Early" gave way to CTM/Mornings- the studio (from the unique setup from the Charlie/Erica/Gayle days, to Times Square, to whatever they have now), the "news is back in morning news" format to the same thing Today/GMA are doing... The one thing they have not traded out is Gayle. I'm not saying that doing so will send them on a rocket ship in the ratings, but you've swapped out every other element more than once...

  9. I think it goes without saying that those at WTVQ would be wise to update their resumes now.

  10. Kind of shocking WJW went with the WKRN / WKBN package instead of WXIN. That said, WJW has at least avoided using a ticker...for now.

  11. Nah. Just consolidation, but the branding is too powerful.

  12. It's very early to be speculating about what a post-merger looks like for CNN and CBS. But I would suspect they will keep the respective brands intact. In my mind, it's more likely that corporate will try to find ways to consolidate real estate. In New York, CNN's operations could move into CBS Broadcast Center. In Atlanta, WUPA/CBS moves in with CNN. But that's not the same as merging brands and broadcasts. Sharing resources goes without saying but I more than doubt you'll suddenly see CNN Newsroom airing in place of Evening News, for example. I doubt much will change in the short term with what viewers see on air.

  13. Then CBS pulls a WISH and decides playing second fiddle to a Fox affiliate is worth it and you are left with Judge Judy and Byron Allen's syndicated shows. Yes, CBS is tanking in the demo with the latest changes, but if you are in a football or march madness loving market, you take the L with CBSEN and Mornings knowing that they still have the #1 daytime lineup, some still-solid hits in prime time, and a decent sports portfolio. Plus, the newscast can survive a bit of a hit if you get enough content for the streamers and socials.

  14. The extended cuts are on the News Music Archive, and honestly, it's not bad. I think it's a definite upgrade over the a Capella stuff they had for way too long. Wouldn't mind a bit more bass in it though.

  15. It was an interesting concept at first, but the VR sets look meh. They work for weather but in my opinion they look so/so for an entire newscast.

  16. Mary Nam was really one of the last of the old KOMO guard left alongside Molly Shen, IMHO. However, after 23 years, having first joined in 2003, Mary has decided to leave KOMO News on March 31st. It'll be a sad day by then. https://komonews.com/news/local/komo-tv-anchor-mary-nam-to-leave-station-at-end-of-month-after-23-years-news-last-day-march-31-hard-turn-podcast-host-journalism
