  1. Yeah. PBS is still around, just like NPR. Every day they're still around is a huge middle finger to the president and those who oppose public broadcasting.

  2. Let me include Belinda's final KARE 11 Saturday too because the program isn't what it was without her. Plus, it was her last time on the air until the fall.

  3. It's good that you mentioned this, because Kevin Orpurt is rejoining WTHI as its Chief Meteorologist. Although he looks different, it is so good to know that he is coming back.

  4. And people forget that Rather was #1 for several years after Cronkite retired. CBSEN slipped to second in about 1987.. a strong second and still occasionally first. A big part of that slide was the switch to people meters for overnights in major markets. And another factor in the early/mid 90’s was CBS losing NFL to FOX and several powerhouse CBS affiliates in major markets to FOX.

  5. To me, Rather was fine, flaws and all--- Somebody had to be in third place , and that was him. Dan Rather is no Cronkite but his tenure was the most stable era of the evening news since ole uncle Walter's departure. The broadcast reamins no better without Rather.

  6. Annnnnnnnnd, let's all cool down for a bit. Maybe we should all let the dust settle on this thread until we get actual headlines, because some of us can debate back and forth til blue in the face. Not restricting posting, not locking the thread, so I don't want to hear anything about censorship. I'm just suggesting that everyone has well-established their points, by now.

  7. Well, except for the two episodes of Comics Unleashed that will continue to air on WLFI and WTHI every weeknight. Worth it.

  9. A shocker since she told nobody. WKRC's Liz Bonis, who essentially became Sinclair's Medical/Health reporter, has died from battling colon cancer for the last three years. She was only 58. https://www.wvxu.org/media/2026-05-01/health-reporter-liz-bonis-wkrc-tv-dies-tvkiese

  10. Spectrum News Texas meteorologist Dan Robertson passed away suddenly last week. Between Spectrum, KXAN, and KEYE, he'd been on the air in Austin for most of the last 30 years. https://www.statesman.com/news/article/dan-robertson-austin-meteorologist-dies-22187316.php

  13. Another death from Florida. Longtime Jacksonville sports anchor Matt Cooney has passed away. Cooney was main sports anchor at WTLV in the 70s and 80s before moving over to WJXT for a few years to assist Sam Kouvaris. Cooney then worked for the PGA. He was 85 years old. There isn’t a whole lot of footage online from WTLV prior to 1984 aside from one 1972 newscast and a few news open clips from when the station gained ABC in 1980.
