  1. can't wait for the eventuality of Allen owning no stations.

  2. When Blue Ridge PBS (WBRA in Roanoke) was in the process of returning to the FCC their two stations in far southwest Virginia (WMSY and WSBN in Marion and Norton, respectively), they launched "Southwest Virginia Public Television" in 2014 which was carried on local cable systems that once carried the prior two stations. The two over-the-air stations left the air in 2017, but in 2022 they launched "PBS Appalachia Virginia", which is a streaming-only (and cable) PBS broadcaster and has no over-the-air presence. There's also low-power KCWT in Brownsville, Texas, whose 21.4 subchannel serves as PBS for the Rio Grande Valley after KMBH went dark in 2018.

  4. Updated opening graphics and new music for KOLN/KGIN and satelite KNPL dropped this week. Enforcer ended its 19 year run and was replaced with CBS Local by Stephen Arnold. They have continued to evade GrayOne. Enforcer will be missed, but the new music at least sounds similar and sets a good tempo.

  5. The updated open actually looks based on the ones already used by WANF and WBRC. But either way, I'm just gonna drop this post from the "2025 Scripps Station Graphics" thread here, because it sums up the GrayONE rollout perfectly...

  6. That makes sense since West Michigan is in-market for the Pistons

  7. This seems to be the M.O. for Nexstar's weaker stations going forward. WIAT CBS 42 in Birmingham has done this with both their morning and noon newscasts.

  9. We got another new Spot... WXMI Channel 17.2, replacing Antenna TV with The Spot - Grand Rapids 17. This is me thinking that this is a result of Scripps getting rights the Pistons for WMYD and therefore, spreading it to West Michigan on a new indie sub.

  10. Well...I hope they have more worthy programming for both channels over here. The Cats will only cover the winter. They need a bit more than that to justify their existence here...

  11. Especially if both stations were going to adopt the same name they might as well have simulcast. Through the industry, having spoken to a producer at that shop, their logic is that WBBH is their headlines newscast, and WZVN is their in depth "thinkers" newscast. IIRC, the producer said they maintain separate operations due to their distinctive audiences. Where are WZVN's morning anchors now?

  12. It was a matter of time before this happened and honestly surprised it took Hearst as long as it did to do this. Any competing against yourself at the same time newscast (with the possible exception of a duopoly producing separate english and spanish language newscasts) is living on borrowed time with current revenue and viewership across the industry. As for WBBH and WZVN, there is some history of simulcasting morning news: they briefly dropped the ABC morning news and simulcast NBC at the worst of the great recession in 2008-2009.

  13. Was just coming here to ask about this, and found that you noticed it too. From a cost-effective/practicality standpoint it makes sense to fully simulcast instead of two separate news operations in one newsroom and requiring reporters to do separate live hits for two separate stations. Unfortunately that would result in the layoffs of producers and possibly anchors. If they ever fully unify, GCN would join their Florida *counterparts at First Coast News and Action News Jax in unified news operations.

  15. Agreed it looks cheap and ugly. I was interested in the concept at first but now, not so much. Hopefully WCBS doesn't expand their's outside of weather. I'm surprised CBS hasn't tried VR as the main CBS Evening News set to be "innovative".

  16. I wonder if this treatment might help Bill? It won't reverse the disease, but at least in this 80yr old patient with advanced Alzheimer's disease, it improved functions and quality of life, in what I have to say is a remarkable way. Only one person in this trial, so the results in a larger case study are of course unknown, but if the affects of the treatment truly had such profound improvements, it seems worthwhile. https://www.sciencealert.com/magic-mushrooms-and-alzheimers-one-remarkable-case-raises-new-questions

  19. For anyone here who works for ABC7NY, can you please suggest a better revamp to the newscasts page? It's now IMPOSSIBLE to go further back to view older newscasts. Don't get me wrong, it looks a lot nicer than the previous one, but it's removed a huge amount of functionality by limiting the amount of videos you can scroll through. An option to select a date would be fantastic. I don't know just how many newscast videos are kept on the server, but it'd be nice to have the option to go back at least to the start of the current month.
