  1. Wow, the 1996 open is jarring. The station had done a lot of modernizing in presentation but the news open was completely divorced from that.

  2. Interesting... does EGAD have a client list anywhere? A KPTV open pops up at the end of this compilation, using similar GFX to sister station KTVX at the time. Really nicely done, I’d say. Who designed those? Going back even earlier to 1996 at the end of this video KPTV used an open from 1991 (maybe 1992?) and lasted it until ‘96.

  4. This. He does not scream “journalism” at all. Keep him on the 8am hour and GMA Day.

  5. @Eat News is right — train from NYC to DC is cheaper, more comfortable and ends up getting you there in the same amount of time of flying once you factor in traveling to/from out of the way airports, security line, wait time to board, etc.

  7. Yeah, I would say that's probably Vance, and if not him, maybe EGAD... It looks like they updated their L3s at some point (report #3). Looking at his site he had WHNS as a client though...

  8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rtLr0wbXVU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHYwUwk7yIw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5Pdka_URJQ A string of WLOS reports from 1996-97 during their “Counterpoint” phase. Judging by their L3’s WLOS must’ve used an EQ Vance package. Paging @Ramona who I know can identify Vance packages... If only there were opens... I legit love the Greenville-Spartanburg market and want to do compilations for it, but there’s just not enough for me to dig through. Salt Lake City is in that rut along with Omaha.

  10. Kaity is on now Saturday at 5 pm and no mention of her illness at the start of the show. As always she looks great... At the 5:11 mark she explained what happened and gave a ton of thanks ..

  11. I don't eat in some places because I don't trust the food. When broadcasters produce a trustworthy product...the public will reward them with viewers. I spend twice as much time (as a viewer) trying to confirm news stories that should have already been fully confirmed or vetted properly. Lester was in San Diego on Thursday and Friday for a PR tour. Lester also managed to slip in a quick helo ride over the beach for some quick pops with the U.S. Customs and Border Air crew. They slapped some file video around it and called it a special report. I see MMJ's in 170+ markets do a better job with NO resources. Lester was phoning it in. But to be fair to Lester...all the anchors pretty much phone it in. The product is crap. Everybody knows it. Produce a decent newscast and people will watch it.

  12. A mislabeled YouTube video. It says it's a 1990 newscast from WTAJ in Altoona. In reality it's a 6pm broadcast from the competition, WJAC in Johnstown:

  13. KGWC, KFNB, and KTWO (and its assorted satellites for the State of Wyoming) are operated from two run-down steel buildings in an industrial section of Casper. What group (other than Gray) would be able to modernize the stations (I've seen production from high schools that are better than they churn out) and keep them in the red? The only one I can think of that is really dedicated to very small markets is NPG.
