  1. Because what worked so well for noon, has got to work for a 5pm show that's 20 years too late....right?

  2. It's Disney's policy to count years of service to an acquired company as Disney service -- Bob Iger for instance celebrated 45 years at "Disney" last year even though the first ~20 years were at ABC/Cap Cities ABC.

  3. I probably would've turned off WKYC from all of my news viewing ever since the "3" era started. I would've been fine watching WEWS or WOIO/WUAB over WKYC's garbage. But my heart would be on WJW, 100% of the time. And considering that WJW is on at the same times as WKYC, except 11PM and some weekend hours, I wouldn't miss it too much at all.

  4. Betsy has proven herself good at both news and weather, but I fear that the station is stretching her too thin and overusing her. Plus, picking her to co-anchor the 5pm show was a slap in the face to the other talent who could have done just as great of a job as Betsy. I think they want the ratings to be good in that slot. Here's a question I have: Wasn't Jay supposed to do both the Noon and 5pm shows? I thought Lunch Break would continue alongside What's New. To be honest, the moves that WKYC has made have been head-scratching and baffling. The elevator-button logo, strange program titles, the stunt hires (that comedian, Baker Mayfield's wife, all those sports anchors doing the news, Plain Dealer vets), the dumb segments in the morning that have nothing to do with the news yet making them desperately try to be like both the "Today" show and WJW, the aforementioned Lunch Break, letting go of solid talent, bizarre graphics. It's turned me off from watching the station. Speaking of their morning show, there is this article from Cleveland Magazine on one of their AM reporters Austin Love:

  5. Jude LaCava is leaving KSAZ. He'd been there since 1993. This was his decision. Last day on air is April 1. Wow.

  6. Many of these stations are low-powered upstarts built for the sole purpose of bringing affiliations to markets where they previously did not exist. Hopefully bringing some scale to these stations could be a major plus for them to better compete in their markets. What you see is a lot of peeved viewers who lose an adjacent affiliate they've had for years replaced by a local one, that is grossly inferior.

  7. Oh there's no doubt she is. She's definitely more popular than her 5pm co-anchor Jay Crawford, that's for sure. I think that's what this new 5pm newscast is going to be. Just a longer version of the Lunch Break show. And that's not what it should be. This whole 3News thing is not working out. They fixed something that wasn't broken. And they need to go back to what was working, which is what they had before this whole 3News mess...

  8. Matt's been doing the weekday mornings and Tiffany Savona has been doing the weekend mornings. Tiffany did do the weather this morning (Thursday), and it looks like Matt will be doing the evening forecast today.

  9. Thank you Samantha. I've picked up on the following: *The synthesized and Timpani drums *The 3-5 vocal chorus Both are in fact signatures of Otis Connor as used on Wipeout and WODS-FM in Boston ("Drake Series '88" and '89 packages)

  10. That's the thing. Betsy Kling is actually a very good anchor. And from what I can tell, she's arguably WKYC's most popular personality right now. But if they're simply going to reproduce the failure that was "Lunch Break" at 5pm - people are going to be crying to get their Dr. Phil back at 5! This is the time for them to finally step into this century with 5pm news...and I fear they're going to completely screw it up.

  11. Hiring that news director from the Today Show is turning out really well for them. Not.

  12. This morning, GMA celebrated Robin's 30th anniversary with ESPN/ABC (they grouped it as Disney, which is untrue), and while I love me some Robin Roberts, the special guests were the highlights.

  13. Just to put the whole “my station has the new music during the Scripps endcap” thing to rest, here’s what it looks and sounds like. This was from KOAA the other night. FullSizeRender.mov

  14. He could fit right in. Even Newsmax is a better place for him now than Fox. ...and that's them being generous.

  15. IIRC the weekend shows were moved back to the 66th St studios because of the costs to rent out Times Square.

  17. Now that the searchlights of 21st Century Fox are no longer part of the brand identify of the New Fox network, they’ve rolled out a rebrand earlier this Fall. I’m curious whether this abstract logo will find its way into local station identities and when the searchlights will start to disappear from local stations with the dated, so-called “kite” logo. more on the rebrand here: https://www.creativebloq.com/news/fox-entertainment-rebrand
