  2. only a handful of their nbc stations used the nbc version of inergy... not worth the extra expense for two stations to use... always enjoy this site... quick to say stations need local flavor... while also saying all stations need to "look/sound like" their affiliation... there are lots of sleepy fox affiliates out there... not everyone is wsvn...

  3. That's an interesting question, I'm curious to know why Stephen Arnold couldn't incorporate the NBC chimes into the new music myself

  4. You have to admit this looks pretty good for small town LPTV news in 1983:

  5. And besides both KXXV and WTXL carried over the First Alert Weather branding from the Raycom era. That and WPTV does news for WFLX (owned by Gray which brought Raycom and have been spreading the First Alert Weather branding to the legacy Gray stations)

  6. No not all of them just the stations that have been using the First Alert brand will keep them everyone else should keep what they have been using like Storm Shield or their stations branding like KJRH for example just uses 2 Works For You Weather before that they were known as Storm Shield Weather.

  7. As of now, KCPM is not a top-4 ranked station in Fargo. KVLY is a top-4 outlet. But because of the reinstatement of eight voice test (which mean it suppose to have 8 unique owners after a deal is completed), Gray can't acquire KCPM without acquiring the "failed station waiver". The 8-voice test was nullified under Pai 2017 dereg order, until the courts vacated that order back in September. It would be speculative to say which programming (either new or existing) to be moved to KCPM, since they haven't made any post-closing plans. But they do plan to change the callsign of KCPM to KXQK once the deal is over. Here what they said in the press release almost two years ago: When they'd announce they were acquiring KNCT in late Summer 2018, they didn't announce that they were going to move The CW from KWTX to that stick under the deal was already finalized. But the question is why the deal is still pending almost two years after the deal has been announced? The FCC could've easily gave this deal a greenlight, given the regulatory relief throughout most of that time. That's because the deal was challenged by the current owners of KRDK-TV (which was the former KXJB-TV). They say that the current owners of KCPM kept the signal off the air for more than a 12 month period. And that would trigger an automatic forfeiture of the station's license, if it stays off the air for a full calender year. So in their eyes that station's license should be revoked.

  8. I will pause my posting hibernation to say that WPTV's open is somewhere between meh and ok. I do see an improvement on doing a combo of the WPTV logo, both white and full color, as well as the "News at 5PM" font. On that particular open, it has somewhat better logic to the gfx execution. So kudos to WPTV for that. But WFLX's open is 100% rubbish. And although their previous open was also bad, I have to say I like their previous open more already. I'm no fan of this gfx package, although the music is marginally better than the gfx by comparison. The morning cut used on KNXV is likeable, although that's the sole case I'm willing to 100% endorse the music. On the music use in general: I'm amazed that the stations seem to roughly dump out of the open audio for the bumper music...which appears evident even in the WPTV intro. I hope that Scripps will improve on that and make it more seamless. A final thought: An open should have a strong local flair to it while remaining true to the overall branding strategy of the network. That's all I'll say on the matter.

  9. Meanwhile here's the WFLX news open with the new graphics. All I'm gonna say is what in the name of frankfurt is the WFLX logo?

  11. Little off-beat, but since we're talking about the ABC O&O's, I'll put this out: most of the ABC O&O's meterologists met for a summit in NYC: https://twitter.com/abc7dallas/status/1220061479715721216?s=20

  15. So, apparently K26AC was an indirect predecessor of what is now WFTC satellite KFTC. The ads for the subscription TV service offered by the station seem nondescript, it doesn't say what the name of the service is, if it's a service we haven't heard of or one of the ones known to exist (like ONTV, SelecTV, VEU, Wometco, Preview, etc.).

  19. The KFSM studio is less than a year old, how does that make a former Tribune, WREG, engineer feel?

  20. Sounds like we can expect KFSM to debut TEGNA graphics, etc. in a week or so. They’re currently installing new systems, switchers and things at channel 5.
