  1. Hey @nynewsguy, are you saying they are replicating their current set in the new studio? If so, that is a huge disappointment. Not to mention it is extremely odd to recreate a look that is 7 years old. I would have guessed a version of WRC's set given WNBC's half of 3A is similar in size and shape to WRC's portion of Nebraska Avenue's Studio A.

  2. A full 11pm from WCPX Orlando in October 1994. This very short-lived look had to have debuted no earlier than June and was out no later than early 1995. There is a very strong current of KPNX, particularly in the talent open which has both some script items and animations that are redolent of the News Station-era graphics. There also appears to be stylistic influence from the CBS News and CBS Sports looks in use then. The unusual tandem voiceover is Lisa Malay (who did KPNX — this was her second open set for 6) and the guy who voiced KTVK during this time. This is an interesting era: the station had a very CityPulse-esque appearance just a year and change prior, and there are elements in place of it (mostly the set), but the anchors (Bud Hedinger and Mary Hamill; David Wittman gets equal billing but way less air time) are much more anchored to their desk. From the shores of the Atlantic to the frontiers of space to the heart of Central Florida... Live and local, this is 6 News.

  3. Network affiliation had nothing to do with KMTV picking up The Equalizer in syndication. Just pure coincidence.

  5. It’s legit a smaller version of what they are using now - just with a couple of additional stand-up areas. Let’s put it this way - the changes that WABC makes to the studio for the 10am show on a daily basis are more substantial than what I’ve seen coming to WNBC.

  6. Hello everyone, Was working on these graphics that we might launch with our upcoming rebrand, basing them off the new CBS O&O graphics, what do y'all think?

  7. And, fun fact, she's the daughter of CNN's Gary Tuchman.

  8. WDVM was finally added to YouTube TV a few months after they said it was coming. Wondering if other missing Nexstar stations were just added.

  9. First time watching the full 10am show and it’s pretty damn good. A very unique hour for the traditional EWN brand. Dani appeared on today’s show to provide a hot topics type of segment with Shirleen, Mike and Sam that ran for about 8 minutes and then stuck around through the end. It’s really cool to see this water cooler style format. Though as someone said earlier, this is a show designed for Michelle Charlesworth rather than Shirleen.

  10. It’s pretty easy to argue. No one would be recycling those at this point. The comedy stuff they’re plugging the hole with is what it is, but it fits what they’re doing with the hour, broadly. Rehashed PBS interviews? Not a chance.

  11. Several CBS stations—most of them O&Os (e.g., WCBS, KCBS, WFOR, KDKA, WBBM), but also about a dozen affiliates (e.g., KOIN, WKMG, WANF [then WGCL], WANE, WCSC)—actually ran Guiding Light in the 10:00/9:00 a.m. hour during the last few years of its run, with LMAD inheriting GL’s alternate timeslots.

  12. I'm surprised CBS didn't opt to run repeats of procedurals like they did back in 2014-15 when they were last between hosts for either late-night slot, or, even better, just keep the Late Late reruns going indefinitely.

  13. If I were in charge of an ABC station and it was getting MNF back even for a season, heck yes, I'd be happy. It's a heck of a lot more sellable as an established brand to my local clients than some of the other programming. Is it as good as SNF in terms of matchups? Of course not. But while I'm still saddled with the Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars et al, a primetime marquee sports franchise back on my air, temporary or otherwise, is a win. Meh, times change, circumstances change and the world doesn't stay frozen in 1984.

  15. Yes, I've been meaning to mention this. ABC is dropping a huge bomb on the access syndies with this new MNF pregame, especially Wheel because of the O&O's and because of its prime access/one feed only rules. I imagine Wheel wasn't aware of this until it was too late, but considering the first three Mondays have MNF on ABC (with 9/25 having a game that starts at 7:00), they really should have pushed back the season premiere (which would have also pushed back Pat Sajak's final week so that it won't overlap with NBA Finals and result in pre-emptions on the West Coast). The bigger issue here is that assuming the MNF deal is the same next year, Ryan Seacrest's first episode will very likely suffer this same problem and be pre-empted in about a third of the US (counting the West Coast). I did the math and Wheel is impacted by the new pregame show in about 2.5x the areas J! is. The biggest market where J! is impacted is DC (WJLA). And in the case of J!, at least they'll likely re-air the missed episodes in a few months on Daytime J!, and ET also offers an overnight or next-morning encore (and every segment goes on the YouTube channel anyway). Wheel offers neither of these. ET is also not restricted to prime access, nor is J! in the Central Time Zone. There will also be some affiliates that opt to replace Wheel with J!, one of them being WRIC. At this point, Wheel being forced to air in prime access with not even temporary exceptions allowed, plus still only having one feed a day (when even Who The Bleep, despite its low clearance, has two, when the number of markets carrying both feeds can be counted on one hand, even NYC is only carrying one), is only hurting it more than it's helping it. These rules are only still in place because it had these rules to avoid competing with the NBC/CBS daytime version that hasn't aired since 1991. All four networks are finding more reasons to start primetime at 7:00 or 7:30 on special occasions. ABC has Day 2 of the NFL Draft, the CMA Red Carpet on O&O and Nexstar stations, and now national MNF days, CBS has March Madness, FOX has World Series pregame, NBC has The Olympic Zone and the Hall of Fame and NFL Kickoff pregame. Wheel's rules really need to change. It makes no sense in cases like WFTV where they air Daytime J! at 3:30 and first-run J! and 7:00 but Wheel is forced to air at midnight on a Saturday night. They should be allowed to have Wheel replace Daytime J! either day-of or the next day. And with some markets now carrying Feud up to eight or even NINE (Denver) times a day despite "only" six unique feeds, a second Wheel feed (maybe a Dr. Phil-style rerun package of Pat's last few seasons after Ryan takes over?) would get eaten up, especially since the general public doesn't really know when Wheel is new or a repeat. It's sad that ABC is suddenly treating Wheel like this. This is far worse than when Thursday Night Football came about on CBS and NBC since more and larger markets are affected.

  16. It's a base graphics package that both stations' meteorologists have customized for their needs. If you don't like the way it looks on KTRK, well, that's the way their meteorologists have decided to use it. It's essentially a LEGO set. They were sent a box of parts, and this is how they've assembled them. There's nothing more that can be said about this.

  17. That new 12News logo would be great if this was 1986. The lack of spacing between the circle 12 and the N bothers me, and the typeface used for the NEWS part leaves a lot to be desired. The 2 is overstretched. Honestly this is a huge downgrade. Don't knock the logo it replaced, the red crescent 12 was actually very decent. Also that set is terrible, that feels like it should be a temp set. The fact that only three other former MG stations/sister stations still use their crescent logos (WMBB, WBTW, and WJBF) doesn't mean that KWCH's logo made them look like a Nexstar station. Honestly, Gray probably left it up to the station since they had used their old MG logo for so long and it had become an identifying mark for them they decided to keep it. Now, it seems they're looking for a refresh to something else. There's three existing former MG stations with crescent logos still, WMBB, WBTW, and WJBF. Those three stations still have their crescent logos likely because, just like KWCH, it became their most identifiable logo mark, and if it ain't broken don't fix it.
