KGBT-TV in the RGV market had one of the guy wires snap on their tower this week, and after an evacuation for a day or two it was safely taken down. It had already been stripped of its CBS affiliation in 2021, become an Antenna/My Net sub zombie, and its main and Estrella subchannels were bumped to KVEO's bandwidth while NX figures out next steps. I feel like they either move to KVEO's stick in the coming months with only the Nexstar classic nets returning in addition (the rest are Scripps networks and will likely see a contract rip-up), or it just goes silent after a year and it goes back up for bids; why rebuild a tower when you can just move its operations to the working one?

KNXT (now KCBS) 11pm newscast- June 1981. A few things to note... Not a single live shot. Not that it's a bad thing, just shows the evolution of TV news Weathercaster is off, anchor man reads the weather headlines and temps very briefly at the end of the show Jim Hill, a giant in LA TV news/sports is still going at it to this day. Jess Marlow was another giant. He would leave KNXT to go back to KNBC a few years later Marcia Brandwynne left for KTTV a few years later. She later became the AND at KTLA and was also the EP of the KTLA Morning News for a time as well. Orange County reporter Dave Lopez featured in the clip recently retired, but still active on social media.

Before anyone has a smart remark I KNOW it’s been brought up.. but what is the purpose of having Mike Marza do the 11 every Friday after doing the morning show? It seems like he gets off Monday in return but I just find it odd the majority of the time it’s him. I’m not sure who was on earlier but it seems no matter who it was doesn’t matter as they wouldn’t fill in, I’ve seen David and Sandra do it every so often but that’s not as much as Mike

So instead of using it as a learning opportunity for everyone in the newsroom, let’s fire/cancel the guy? I fail to see how that helps anyone. It’s far more productive to heed the lesson from this experience so that people avoid repeating similar mistakes in the future. Not to mention, this cluster f goes beyond one person. If I’m not mistaken, scripts are supposed to be written, edited, and reviewed before going to air. Something went seriously wrong with that process if no one caught that phrasing before hitting air, and work should be done to correct that process. Unless this was done with malicious intent (which by all accounts, it wasn’t), they don’t need to go on a pink slip crusade.

Why would they need to? If you found this video on their website you could surely find the supposed multiple on-air apologies in the newscasts as well. Sounds like the station and staff worked to correct a wrong... Poor word choices, yes. Learning opportunity, Certainly! Career-ending move? No.

That would be the goal for CBS, wouldn’t it? To retain as much of the lead-in as necessary. Stations could have the option of airing the hour right after Price, after their expanded hour newscast, or at 2PM/3PM to compete directly against Daily. If the networks aren’t making money for these media companies, that’s exactly what will happen. If programs Daily can make money for broadcast to keep them in the black, then it possibly keeps Comcast from selling the network and the news division. Same for Paramount, who is already flirting with AMG ahead of their big sale(Comics Unleashed/Funny You Should Ask)… I’m a lifelong soap fan… I certainly get why fans don’t want to give up their shows. But we don’t represent the viewership the networks want… we haven’t for over a decade. And spamming the NBC News Daily thread with negative comments, quoting Jamey Giddens (who spent over a decade enabling showrunners’ bad writing and creative decisions under the guise of journalism at Daytime Confidential) and preaching about executives lacking creativity in programming(which is rich given how YR/Bold/Days aren’t even trying and save for the recent Colleen Zenk stunt at YR, are totally on autopilot) isn’t enough of a sell to save the genre in its current state. There are plenty of forums devoted to serials where you can bash network news. It says a lot when the most provocative stories on daytime are being told on NBC News Daily instead of a serial… once lauded as *the place* for relevant social commentary and takeaway for its viewers. If networks are done with serials, give me a hard-ish news show over The View, The Talk, or GMA3 any day of the week.

I can see a CBS newscast at 11 AM outside the Eastern time zone, but there are five stations which run Y&R at 11:30: Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, and Springfield, MO. Also, KFMB has a local newscast from 11-12:30, delaying Y&R to 1 PM. In the Eastern time zone, you seem to be suggesting that CBS's newscast air at 1 PM, directly opposite GMA3 and NBC News Daily. Do you think people will want three news/public affairs shows head-to-head in the middle of the day? And does Y&R get the boot? Perhaps those five stations that run Y&R at 11:30 expand their midday news (or, in Nashville, "Talk of the Town") to 11-12, then go along with the East Coast with network news at 12 (CT/PT). The question then becomes: what happens to the soaps? It looks to me like B&B is headed for the boneyard sometime in 2025, and the new Black-oriented soap The Gates is still on the drawing boards. Does Y&R go to 2/1? And a few other complications: there are CBS affiliates (WBTV Charlotte and WANF Atlanta among them) that start their news blocks at 3. That doesn't bode well as a potential timeslot for a soap; further, I don't see CBS giving up Let's Make A Deal, which seems to work just fine either at 10 AM or 3 PM. This is a truly complicated situation.

Sade had been anchoring solo at 11pm on Fridays since last year, she’s out right now. Mike is also largely viewed as Bill Ritter’s eventual successor and they’re not subtle about how they’ve positioned him for that.
