  1. Welp they're hiring full time replacement photogs and techs now. This is getting ugly: http://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/morning_roundup/2015/10/nbc10-ibew-local-98-photog-strike-replacement-hire.html
  2. nooooooooo. It would be a damn shame if management pushed her out.
  3. They were and still are hamstrung by the strike.
  4. That's a bit harsh. I know for a fact from people I've talked to that their GM loves Jim and will have him there as long as he wants to keep working. I can't speak for anyone above him at ABC but I'm sure you're assessment is accurate when it comes to them just given how little they want to have to do with their stations.
  5. That's until their viewership ages out, then everything you fanboy about will have to change or they'll get left in the dust. Their basic presentation hasn't really changed much in that time span. Yeah it's gotten a modern polish over time but yeah you have the same basic principles in place for the past 40 years but if you really watch closely, what really separates them from everyone else, is that unique time locked presentation paired with talent with familiar faces. Their newsgathering and story telling isn't much different than 10's. They pretty much just have precedence on their side.
  6. Never say never. It's already happened before.
  7. It's a pile of crap because they brought the replacement photographers in a week before the Papal Visit when the union made their strike vote in the first place. That would have given thfem plenty of time to screen and credential anyone that was going to be working the festivities. They're reaching at this point. Also anyone who lives in this region knows this is par for the course the kind of tactics that their union boss John Dougherty pulls all the time. He's going to lead a bunch of his rank and file to pink slips if this keeps up
  8. That's probably how they're doing it. Intercepting radio communications. Last I checked they still used radios to communicate with reporters.
  9. Ted tried to go live during the 4PM today and was heckled and interrupted by striking workers so I guess they decided not to go back to him for the rest of the night. The control room is contact with the field reporters and I'm sure they relay to the control room whether or not their live shot might be picketed.
  10. When Sandy hit, they brought in reporters from WMAQ, KXAS and WTVJ. They might do the same this time around and hopefully have some photographers come with them. Also it wouldn't surprise me if reporters doing taped packages are out flying solo. In a lot of these taped pieces reporters are using lapel mics instead of handhelds.
  11. WCAU's on air talent is represented by SAG-AFTRA.
  12. I don't see how. Once the strike is resolved they'll be back to the way they were. So any laughing they're doing will be short lived.
  13. They're running on a skeleton staff with few photographers and replacement technicians in the control room that aren't used to their setup. It's gonna show on air.
  14. Anzio reports to Ric and Ric is the general manager of the station. Anything that goes on at the station essentially goes through him. He reports to Valarie Staab who runs the O&O division of the network. I would think Ric has to run something as big as a new union contract by her though. Also why would union workers tell people to watch WPVI which isn't a union shop at all? Stupid if you ask me.
  15. Here's the article rklosen was referring to: http://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/news/2015/09/25/nbc10-ibew-local-98-union-comcast-contract-strike.html Looks pretty straightforward to me that the station wants to implement some level of automation (esp during cut-ins and breaking news) and the union isn't having it. Just my opinion, but do you really need a fully staffed control room just to run a 2-3 min cut-in? I know we're talking about people's jobs and all but it does seem pretty wasteful.
  16. I saw it. It looked like something in the studio shit the bed. If you noticed, it took them 15 mins before they actually had an in-studio shot. Possibly a video switcher went down or something of that nature.
  17. I would think that's why he's been off. Jim Gardner also took off for Yom Kippur.
  18. Yeah they started at 11AM and got trounched by TPIR and The View so they moved it to Noon and it didn't make a dent there against 3 and 6 so they eventually cancelled it.
  19. Word is they're getting people from KXAS in case there is a strike.
  20. They had been experimenting pairing Sue up with Dave Warren for weather in the mornings with Dave doing the "Morning News" portion of the show and Sue the "Good Day" portion but that seems to have gone by the boards.
  21. Oops. He's starting today though. He visited 94WIP's morning show today.
  22. Former weekend sports anchor Don Bell has been named sports director.
  23. I guess screw you Scott Williams huh.
  24. Is Michelle just freelancing til they find a permanent meteorologist or is she it?
  25. Oh yeah someone should tell 29 to update their bug to reflect the URL change
