I miss the days when news sets weren't just screens everywhere. And then to fill those screens with mostly just logos?

I miss the main news set where the anchor desk rotate to the newsroom was back when they were K-EYEwitness News in 1995.

  2. Sad news out of Atlanta tonight. Dave Michaels, a longtime news anchor for 11Alive, CNN and other outlets died this month at 88 years old.

His wife, Ann, contacted 11Alive on Friday and said he had passed away on Feb. 1 – after a long illness of Alzheimer's and congestive
heart failure. He was at home in hospice care at the time he died. Michaels worked at WXIA from 1976 to 1985.

I hope that NBC Sports rebuys AT&t SportsNet Southwest and rebrands it back into NBC Sports Houston.

I'm hoping that NBC Sports buys Bally Sports and rebrands. It would be nice to see Bally Sports Southwest change to NBC Sports Southwest.

With MLB taking broadcasting in-house with the bankruptcy (as they have claimed they are prepared to do), I see deals with Fox O&O's, for example, to put MLB on the MyNets (WFTC in Minneapolis, KUTP Phoenix, KDFI Dallas, etc.)

It would be really nice to see Rangers baseball back on KDFI and KDFW (Should KDFW preempt daytime programming).

This thing is HIDEOUS. Very sterile. Could be popped into any market in the nation without a single tweak. Nothing about it says “Austin” or “Texas”

Not only it's hideous, but it's also god-awful the worst set I've ever seen, and I've seen worst news sets. It's not KEYE and it's sure as hell it's not Austin.

...and may I add, sorely missed.  His laughs with his stage manager alone were worth the price of admission.

TS always cracks me up, even when you look up his name on YT, you'll find vintage episodes of The Tomorrow Show (NBC), and The Late Late Show w/ Tom Snyder as well as audio of Tom Snyder Radio Show (ABC Radio).

Late night talk is just not the same without Tom Snyder. Settle back, fire up the colortini, and watch the pictures... and the angels in heaven as they fly through the air. RIP Tom Snyder, and Godspeed.

KYW didn't use the EWN name from 1991 until 1998, reclaiming it two years after Group W ceased to exist.

When KYW dropped EWN in '91, they were NewsDay (Morning), NewsBeat (Noon, 6pm), and The News Tonight (11pm) from 91-94 and then they were KYW News 3 from 94-98 and 3 brought back EWN in '98 and it stuck.

Vintage WJZ EWN openings from 1980-83, both with the same music, and a different title formation:

--First, the late edition from that time, with title music in a more stereo format, and shots of late-night activities (fireman sliding down the firepole, carhop moving among cars at a drive-in, toll booth worker enjoying her job, etc.); the different title formation has the two parts of the Eyewitness News title coming together from the left and the right against a black screen (the way we were used to seeing it, the last shot [don't know what of] slid up and revealed the studio with the title superimposed on that shot):

--Then, same music, but with shots of evening activities for the evening edition (putting supper on the table, getting something out of the oven, someone lighting a menorah, ballet dancing, juggling, you name it); same title formation:

When you see intros like these, you will know that Baltimore and WJZ are just not the same without the late greats Jerry Turner and Al Sanders.
