  1. Looking at the guides: It appears that the new KFVE (fka KSIX-TV) in Kona is airing the "K5" (KHNL-DT2) stream on 6.1. Telemundo (which was on 6.1) moved to 6.2. The listing also shows that Telemundo is simulcasted for the Oahu viewers on KHNL 13.6. Not sure when the KKAI-DT2 carriage of Telemundo ended.......
  2. This petition has now advanced to an NPRM, the comment phase of this rulemaking process.
  3. .....And now KSLA has the WMC pack.
  4. WTVM, WVUE, KAIT, WFIE, KCBD, KSWO, KAUZ, KGMB/KHNL. WWNY also haven't switched (even though this was a United Comm. outlet).
  5. New station with the WMC pack. KFYR. The station also switched their music to 615's High Velocity V.3.
  6. Little follow up. The FCC greenlighted the WLII deal to Liberman on Thursday (12/10). This means that Univision acquisition by Searchlight Capital & ForgeLight Investors should be approved soon. The two firms would have majority interest in Univision. While Grupo Televisa will keep the remaining stake. The FTC appears to have cleared the deal earlier this week.
  7. And the deal is done. Completed Tuesday (12/08).
  8. Buried in the "Black Friday" dump, Gray filed two new PRMs, each asking for new allotments. VHF 9 in Freeport, IL UHF 26 in Eagle River, WI I went in detail on the proposed Freeport allotment in the Gray thread. I'll also mention (even though this was before the dump) that University of Missouri filed to move KOMU from VHF 8 to UHF 27.
  9. So it appears that two more PRMs came up in the "Black Friday" dump. And these are petitions for two NEW allotments. Gray is proposing to have a new full power allotment on VHF 9 in Freeport, IL. This probably explains why Gray wants KCRG off of RF 9......... Just to follow up, Gray sold WIFR's former UHF allotment (RF 41) in the spectrum auction. And moved the channel to a low power signal (RF 28). And since then those viewers have complained about not receiving the new signal. They've also simulcasted its channel on Weigel's LP in Rockford (WFBN-LD 23.11). WIFR even mentioned about "applying for a new license" on their spectrum page. This proposed VHF allotment makes sense since that part of Illinois is mostly rural. And the signal is better for folks who have outdoor antennas on the roofs. Unlike in the urban areas with big buildings, the VHF signals (like WBBM on RF 12) don't penetrate well like UHF signals do. I wished WIFR would've chose to move to VHF-high, instead of deciding to channel share (which they ended up not doing). Okay, the other allotment is UHF 26 in Eagle River, WI. I'm sure this is for competitive reasons. Quincy's WAOW has a repeater in Eagle River (WYOW). And I guess WSAW may want one in the Northwoods as well.......
  10. CBS News has appointed Adriana Diaz & Jericka Duncan as new anchors of the CBS Weekend News. Jericka will anchor Sundays from CBS HQ in New York City. She'll start this Sunday (12/6). Adriana will anchor Saturdays from the CBS News bureau in Chicago. She'll start the following Saturday (12/12).
  11. This happened ten years ago tonight. That's when WPVI placed a circle around the now 53-year old "6" insignia. Vid courtesy of "ekt8750" from YT.
  12. Update. This was quick as hell! The FCC has issued a Report & Order (R&O), effectively approving the channel changes to KARE (11 > 31), KGW (8 > 26) & KPNX (12 > 18). Now the stations will have 30 days to file a minor change application for a construction permit on their new allotments. I'm sure they'll be filing those promptly.
  13. Okay, going back to the PRMs. I'm looking at the contours of both proposed changes of KECI & KTVM in Montana. Both are asking to change to RF 20. There's a portion where both signals will overlap. Would it be difficult for viewers getting either one of these signals, if both are on the same frequency? _______________ New Petition. KMYU in Utah wants to move from 9 to 21.
  14. Already mention on the NewsNation thread but color me surprised....... Nexstar has struck a deal with YouTube TV to carry WGN America. The carriage will begin on January 19. Will they carry Channel 9 or those other locals streams as well? ___________________________ But here's the really big news. The FCC just greenlighted the WPIX deal to Mission.
  15. This one is done. Completed Monday (11/30). WZME in Bridgeport, CT is the only NRJ station that's left......
  16. Chairman Pai announced he will be leaving the agency on January 20.
  17. So a big follow-up regard WMC. @Samantha mentioned it yesterday (11/27), but I'll make a mention it here. In the light of the FCC finally lifting the freeze on station modifications and allotment subsitutions last month, WMC has now petitioned to move its full-power signal from the problematic VHF-low 5 to UHF 30! The contour of UHF 30 is smaller than the VHF 5 contour. And the reason is to protect Little Rock's KLRT which is also on RF 30. I guess there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hoping that they can finally get out of that VHF-low hellhole. But that's not all. Gray has filed petitions to move five more stations off that VHF dial. And that includes two nearby stations: KAIT Jonesboro, AR petitions to vacate VHF 8 for UHF 27. KFVS Cape Girardeau, MO petitions to vacate VHF 11 for UHF 32. They're also applications filed by other Gray stations who have asked for power increases. KWWT (the Odessa station Gray just bought) have asked to move its antenna facility to KOSA's tower and raise the power to 500kW. WVUE in New Orleans wants to boost its power from 850kW to the full maximized 1MW. KVLY, KNOE & KCWY have also applied for power increases. ______________________________________________ So on an unrelated note, KOLN was granted approval to rebuild its antenna tower. Remember, its original tower collapsed in an ice storm earlier this year. It originally wanted to build a larger tower (1650 ft.) but it has decided to lower the height by 150 ft. (which was the height of their original tower (1500 ft.)). This also affects KSNB's petition to move to UHF 24 (which also proposed to use KOLN's new tower). But that petition is currently under review.
  18. All I can say is wow! I feel this like 2009-2010 all over again. 20+ petitions filed on the same day? Damn! Channel substitutions were happening after the DTV transaction, when many vacated off the problematic VHF signals and move to UHF. Then all that ended when they reinforced the freeze in 2011, in anticipation of the forthcoming (and now completed) spectrum auction and repack. With the freeze lifted completely, this may not be the last of those substitution filings.......
  19. That's a damn shame. But I cannot be surprised. Before the M&A craze, Nexstar didn't even live stream their newscasts online. To this day, most of the pre-2011 Nexstar stations still don't live stream. This latest move is just a stark contrast (a complete 180°) to what the other groups are doing. Scripps, Gray, Cox, even the O&Os, have gone all-in on streaming (especially on platforms (ie Roku & FireTV)). Where's Nexstar on any of this? And what's worse about it, as many folks are cutting the cord like crazy, how about when the power goes out, and they can't watch the broadcast without authentication? You might as well call this a paywall. It's not like they're streaming the entire linear station online.
  20. The folks that run the "keepmystation.com" webpage should at least know that WGN is NOT a "My Network" affiliate.....
  21. Big news out of Steel City.....
  22. I think the reason why they bought KSIX was not just for acquiring Telemundo. But to get the "K5" stream back on satellite, which they haven't been since Nexstar took over KFVE's former cable allotments (cable channel 5) almost two years ago. General Manager Katie Pickman basically confirms this in this Star-Advertiser article back in October: So here's what I found out from the station's article earlier this month. The "K5" stream was moved on cable to channel 6 on Charter Spectrum, Hawaii Telecom & DirecTV and channel 8 on Dish Network. Telemundo has now taken over K5's former cable allotments. That includes Spectrum channel 22, and Hawaii Telecom channel 13. But the stream will stay on channel 6 on Dish.
  23. That's not new. The KSIX stream has been simulcasted on KKAI's sub, prior to Gray's acquisition.
  24. Follow-up since the KSIX transaction closed a couple of months back. A callsign changed occured in the Big Island on November 13th. The station that was KFVE (the former KHBC-TV) is now KSIX-TV. And the station that was KSIX-TV (the station Gray just bought) is now KFVE. No word if the "K5" stream (KHNL-DT2) is airing on the new KFVE.
