TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
CircleSeven replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
That why I said tenative, because we don't know if anything would change without notice. I'm just hoping this time they would show the promos of the new look this time. Do you think they'd delayed the change because of a possible branding change back to "WCNC", similiar to what KGW did back to Tuesday?- 3680 replies

Probably doing it for sweeps, just to build up the tease. Very good open nevertheless.- 3680 replies

The brand is now "KGW News". Jim Birdsall is still the VO. I wonder when KING 5 is going to change that NWCN open with KGW's new logo.- 3680 replies

It looks like it might be a big week for the Deathstar. Tenatively, WCNC on Saturday, WVEC on Thursday, and based on this tweet, KGW TOMORROW (all within the last full week of sweeps). This would leave KREM 2 & KTVB 7 in the NW, and the Lone Star cluster.- 3680 replies

WHOA!!! Didn't know they're also getting a new logo as well.... They obviously doing the plug to boot. This also means bye-bye to The Tower, which is one of the last stations to use it since the beginning in 2000.- 3680 replies

I saw their lineup earlier this week, and I was wondering why they don't have an earlier newscast at the 6am hour. I guess they will fix that within the next month and some change.... I wouldn't say every station. But I would suspect the bigger cities with big budgets would do it. Stations like WFTV have a 4-hour weekend show on both days (5-9am + a 12pm show), and WNEP have a 3 hour show (5-8am). I don't think it necessary to have news on at 5am hour on because you don't really have a heavy amount of viewers who are even up at that hour, unlike the weekdays.

That's the same thing I was thinking. Even the three-Belo are using the reds correctly. This got to be the station's doing, unless they fix it in time for their launch. This will be the 2nd Gannett station (after WLTX) to debut the new graphics during a sweep period.- 3680 replies

Not all the stations implemented the graphics on a Wednesday. By checking the original Gannett graphics launch thread, KSDK, WKYC, WXIA, WZZM, WGRZ launched on a Tuesday. WTSP, WBIR, WLTX*, WMAZ & WCSH/WLBZ launched the new graphics on Wedneday. WFMY*, KUSA, WUSA, KPNX*, KTHV, WTLV/WJXX launched on a Thursday. Only KARE 11 implemented the graphics on a Friday. I had to do some rechecking, noting the asterisk (*). First, since the thread didn't mention a date, WFMY was the first station to implement the new Graphics on December 13, 2012, on a Thursday. Also, I previous stated that KPNX implemented the graphics yesterday (meaning Friday, January 18, 2013), but it actually debuted a day earlier, on Thursday, the 17th, the same day that WUSA launched its graphics. Since it didn't mention a date on WLTX, I found out that they implemented it on February 20, 2013, on a Wednesday. And although not all the them, but a good chunk of these stations debut during their midday broadcast. And as you see none of the stations debut the graphics on a Monday, or the weekend. But as you see this time, they've been pretty consistent with a Wednesday midday launch. I'm wouldn't be too shocked if they continue the roll-out after sweeps, which that would end one week from Wednesday (30th).- 3680 replies

First, about WWL. I never understand why they never had a weekend morning newscast, while WDSU had it for a minute. I'm guessing they putting alot of resources into their 4½ hour weekday morning program. As for Gannett, didn't one of its stations eliminated a weekend morning newscast at one point?
-
The Times-Picayune is stating that WWL will be adding its newscasts. No longer will WDSU be the sole news club on weekend mornings, WWL will be adding newscasts on Saturday Mornings from 8-9am, and on Sunday Mornings from 6-7am. Eyewitness Morning News reporter Antwan Harris will anchor the weekend morning shows. That will start August 9th. Also, on September 9th, WWL will add a new 6:30pm newscast that will air on WUPL 54. This will be the first newscast on WUPL since it ended its 9pm newscast in April 2013. Natalie Shepard & Thanh Troung will anchor the new 6:30pm show.

Here's the story he's talking about. Some stations that have yet to fully implemented the graphics have used bits and pieces, like new map graphics, etc.- 3680 replies

You don't know the new date yet? I kind of suspected that they were going to implement it during the middle of sweeps. Usaually it would happen before or the first day of, or after sweeps. Maybe WCNC & WVEC could launch at the same time. That may not happen like that, but anything could happen. Anywho, no telling when they switched, but KTVB's new website just went live.- 3680 replies

Wow. I was wondering why this took so long but, we finally got a consummation. Bob Prather's Heartland Media has now completed it acquisition of KEZI & KDRV/KDKF from Oregon-based Chambers Communications. They closed it out earlier today (7/15). Chambers.

It's kind of shocking that they would implement the new graphics in the middle of the sweeps (even though its July, and it's like the meaningless sweeps period of the four). Maybe more stations could be making more noise by the end of sweeps. It looks like the Deathstar wants to push the new look on all of its stations before the Fall. I'm hoping WCNC would mention their new graphics tonight during their news....- 3680 replies

Here's more details about the NPG Yuma consolidation from the Yuma Sun. Excerpts are on the quote below: I get that they want to hire more reporters on the field. But if they would keep the three separate newsclubs separate, I wouldn't be shocked if every newscast would have a solo anchor on all of them, even their 10pm. And probably one station having a 10pm on the weekends, while the other stations air different programming. But you know what, when I first heard the news, I feared that which market so small like Yuma, NPG could play the same card like Block is doing in little Lima with the Your News Now, and simulcast the news on big-3 affils. But this is not the case, as they say. I wonder how they're going to make all the network programming in HD. Since NPG now have two full-powers to play with, I wonder if they're going to plan on reshuffling the channel line-up, since they'll finally have some breathing room, and not cram everything on KECY. For example the CW could move back to KSWT and make that an HD signal. That would most definitely free up the ABC programming to HD on KECY-DT2. If they flash-cut Telemundo KESE-LP to digital and have it at full 15kW, they might not need to relay it on KECY, and they could move Estrella to the LP's subchannel. So they want this consolidation to be completed within three to five months. That means if it last the full five months, that would go over the November sweeps period. Well we'll see how this consolidation goes, I guess. _____________________________ It appears that John Anderson will finally get a co-host after all. On Friday, WKYC announced that weekend anchor Lynna Lai will become the new co-host of Channel 3 News Today, starting July 28th. No word on who'll replace Lai on the weekend. But I'm hoping they give the weekend spot A.J. Ross.

I doubt they'd eliminated the color-coded-ness. They obviously using the darker reds obviously because its a sports related matter. They were using the other colors, including yellow when they went with a couple of weather segments within the last hour of coverage (they were on like after 12:30 through about 6:30pm. This is not the first time I've seen a unified color grid. Portions of the last hour of WWL's Eyewitness Morning News, they use all purple (Life) for their segments.- 3680 replies

I don't find it silly. To me, it appears they plug the "Local" branding way more than Graham, even though only a fraction of Nexstar stations (specifically WFRV/WJMN & WATN) uses the "Local" branding. Let me remind you that Nexstar's slogan is "Keeping It Local". I rather for them to brand them Local 4 & Local 6, instead of NBC 4 or CBS 6 any day.

That wouldn't have looked so bad.
-
No. The font of WETM's longtime "18" logo is named, Sarentino.
-
On the first page of that document it states: "DIGITAL TV APPLICATIONS FOR ASSIGNMENT OF LICENSE DISMISSED". Those applications that said ComCorp to Mission were dismissed, after they'd filed new apps for those two from ComCorp to Marshall. I'll tell you, they weren't like that a few years ago. But I'm happy they've made a substantial effort this time. NO!!!! I loved that "18" logo. Can't say I didn't see this coming. End of an era.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's no launch tomorrow. After all, most folks came from the long holiday weekend. As for the London properties, they'll probably take a longer time for them. Don't they have to buy the equipment first for the London properties to use the new graphics? That's why I think the Texas cluster, including the four Belos, should be the last to get the new graphics (And if the Deathstar have some sort of heart, they would provide the cluster the customized "Spirit of Texas" logo to its This Is Home package).- 3680 replies

Yeah. Travel conditions. I know that. But that doesn't mean they can't place the word TRAFFIC on there. Again, that would lead to the impression that they're talking about traveling to a vacation destination, and not an actual morning commute segment. I don't see anything wrong with changing its graphic from TRAVEL to TRAFFIC. It can be done.- 3680 replies
