  1. I know I'm about to go lenghty with the post, relating to WGN. So I'm going first post the two vids that's related to "WGNtertains You/WGN & You". Let me know if this is the piece of music y'all talking about. Here's one of the FuzzyMemories vids with the WGN ID. Yes, they'd played this same piece of music for their Late Night movie opens all the way to when that big swirl "9" logo debuted, and I think after that. Unrelated to this, they played the , even after the big swirl 9 logo debuted. And here's one of the movie promos playing what appears to be the "WGNtertains You" music. I was dying to know who made this piece of music. Video Courtesy of mycommercials from YT
  2. How do you know that they're going to launch in August? Why wouldn't it launch before then? You know August is a good while.
  3. Okay. Maybe there's probably some light in the end of the tunnel, yet they still have a long way to go. On Wednesday, the FCC did greenlighted the Citadel stations, WOI, WHBF & KCAU. They are still waiting for the Grant stations, which includes the two stations that are in the Quad Citites. They are acquiring KGCW through a failed station waiver, and KLJB is being assigned to Mission. Plus, deals from Gray/Hoak spin-offs, WICZ being assigned to Mission, and the big one, ComCorp, which those apps have been sitting their since they filed that paperwork on May 6 of last year.
  4. Hopefully someday in the future, the composers of these following themes could be identified: (also used on ) (also used on WAKC) (used until '97) This posting could be edited if I think of another unknown theme.
  5. And because of Wheeler's vote announcement, many broadcast groups stocks have taken a hit today. Including Sinclair, which were down 4.5%.
  6. That expidited waiver review process kind of gives a little window for the broadcasters. But this will most definitely piss off the Heathens of Hunt Valley and the rest of the broadcasters who relied on these JSAs. The joint retrans ban is the one the cable operators really wanted to see, as it was their reason for skyrocketed retrans fees. But then I'm wondering if his timing to ban these JSAs/joint retrans is a way to finally persuade broadcasters to (or in an almost) participate in these incentive spectrum auctions next year. Since Wheeler is a former cable lobbyist, it made me feel that he's trying to do this so broadcasters would have no other choice but to participate. Should that Comcast/Time Warner Cable deal goes through, many broadcasters would call Wheeler "one-sided".
  7. We are now at exactly TEN months since they filed those ComCorp apps, yet they are still waiting for that greenlight from the FCC. In fact about it, all five pending deals are awaiting the greenlight (ComCorp, Citadel, Grant, WICZ & Gray/Hoak spinoffs). Recenty, Nexstar (just like other broadcasters including Sinclair) filed comments to the FCC making their pitch to keep the status quo on those sharing arrangements, as Wheeler could be making plans to curb those JSAs as early as the end of the month. One of the paragraphs includes their pending sales that are still waiting for their approval.
  8. It's sad to see another local establishment fold, on the accountance of this growing consolidation. Let's see how Prather can do in Oregon, competiting with Sinclair & COBI. I'm interested to see which stations Prather could get into next. The article states that he's in talks to possibly get two or three more stations (let's see if that happens). Although I would've liked to see him acquire WBNG, which would be closer to his soon-to-be closed Utica station WKTV, beyond that, he probably may not get anymore stations, unless one of the bigger groups divest some of their stations. And that's likely not going to happen.
  9. Remember former KCAL 9 promotional director Marshall Hites, the one responsible for several 615 Music theme songs? Tribune Broadcasting president Larry Wert, appointed Mr. Hites as the new Senior VP of marketing and creative services. He will oversee all the creative service departments for all 42 of the Tribune stations, and will stay involved in the marketing ops at KTLA 5, where he's been at since 2011. This is nothing but good news. Some stations probably need it. I wish Hites can appoint a new CSD for WPIX. They really need someone to bring some liveliness to their brand. Like bring back its old theme song. What I don't want to see is if Tribune thinking about "standardizing" like these other groups. Please don't let that be the case. ______________________________________________________ It's sad that it has strong ties to the Heathens Of Hunt Valley. It would be nice to see more minority ownership, but having just that one wouldn't be enough. And even if Anderson, Mumblow or any other shell company are willing to sell their "license papers" to that Uncle Tom, it would probably wouldn't stop Wheeler for following through on his "so-called" plan to make JSA's attributible (that's if he's willing, and he has the votes to do so). Broadcasters better have their lobbyists to "lobby like crazy" all this month, if there's any chance to save their JSAs.
  10. ...And the new 7-day graphic is meh. It looks naked with extra background space. Why do it need to look slanted, instead of looking straight? Talk about tackiness. I remember when Channel 7 used the "Eyewitness Weather" line back in the early 90s. I strongly disagree that this new weather line "unify the brand better", as it sounds more way generic as it seems, since like you stated other stations including WCAU used it and WNBC formerly use it as well. And if the dumbos' plans to use it in a way to block WMAQ from using it, I would be thinking why would you want to use it in the first place? I wouldn't have mind WMAQ used the branding. It probably would've made more sense, than having WLS using it, because it screams overtones of WTVD, where those fools came from....... I'm sorry, but that weather line sounds too mid-to-small market for my taste. Hoping that this "gimmick" would just come and go, something tells me that this will be here for the long haul, whether if it works or not. Other than "AccuWeather", I think it would've been best to save these naming gimmicks and just do what's best. Report the weather and that's it.
  11. New M&A Tonight!!!! Looks like London is buying KUIL-LD (and its repeaters) outright from National Communications for $1.81M.
  12. I never thought 'MetroVision7' was better name either. But they didn't constantly jam that down our throats. .
  13. SMMFH!!! :bang: I mean are they're trying to mimmick WDJT?!!! No wait, where did I hear the "FIRST ALERT" part from? Not CBS 58. Oh yeah. "FIRST ALERT Doppler XP" from whereelse, WTVD, where dumbass and his sidekick came from. Is this really necessary?!! Why they just didn't call it your "AccuWeather" forecast, since they are using their tools, instead of this generic ass "First Alert Weather" bullshit. Just constantly bringing elements from their old station to place it one of the largest market stations will not go well in the long run. Let them continue to travel this avenue, and they will regret all of this.
  14. Well at least he'll still be on TV. It's sad that Raycom cut him loose, after all those years at the same station.
  15. I'm not making it sound any such thing. It comes at a complete shock to me, that he wants to come back to reclaim his stations. I still think he needs to sell the rest of those stations (as most of those stations are at the bottom-of-the-totem-pole). Maybe that would be his best move since he sold most of its stations to Titan.
  16. Not a major M&A, but it looks like the Trust is changing hands again. It looks like Mr. Stapleton will hand in the Pappas Liquidated Trust to.....Mr. Pappas!!! ........AND it's possible that the Trust could go bye-bye as well, if this change of gaurd gets the greenlights by Bankruptcy Court (on Thursday acc. to this WIWN app). If this follows through, maybe he can finally sell KHGI to a good buyer. It's their only cash-cow left in the portfolio. All the rest are basically speculator bate, although most of the markets may not need that much spectrum post-auction. Except for maybe WIWN. Or sell it to Abraham. He's been getting these low-valued station. He'll probably cash in his chips during auction time too. ________________________________________ Also under the radar. It looks like WPLG is no longer the only player at 4:30am. WTVJ's has expanded its morning news to 4:30am. They did so during the Olympics, but they'd announced that it will be a permanent mainstay. WFOR would be stupid not to follow WTVJ's lead.
  17. It looks like the Department of Justice may be backing Wheeler's possible plan to curbs those arrangements. They made comments to the FCC yesterday, stating that they should make JSAs attributible, and should look over any SSAs under a case-by-case basis.
  18. Wow! That is shocking! Sad to see her leave Channel 8.
  19. Brady's acquisition of KYMA & KSWT has now been consummated, as of yesterday (2/18). It'll probably going to be a minute before both stations be under one roof.
  20. Guess who had an ice anchor desk last week? And this time, it wasn't a Gannett station......
  21. I don't know if they were "suppose to get it" or wanted the station or not, but KAUZ was the only station that wasn't in part of the Gray/Hoak deal back in December. I doubt Gray wanted to be a junior partner of an existing SSA with Drewry's KSWO. This is similar to when Sinclair bought Fisher. They would've been a junior partner to Idaho Falls' SSA between KIDK & NPG's KIFI, and you know Sinclair isn't going to fly with that. So NPG form a shell VistaWest as a result.
  22. New M&A This Morning!!! Hoak is selling KAUZ to a new entity KAUZ Media, Inc., owned by Lawton, OK lawyer, Bill W. Burgess, Jr. I had a feeling that Drewry was going to form something to keep that SSA alive. At least they got someone local to buy it.
  23. And now broadcasters and their attorneys (who are mostly involved in the transactions of station deals) are sounding off on Wheeler's possible plan to curb those JSAs and other sharing arrangements.
  24. Okay, B&C stated yesterday that sources around the FCC is expecting Wheeler to put on his agenda in next month's FCC meeting that he would be placing a proposal that would make "joint sales agreements" (JSAs) for more than 15% of a station's ad inventory attributible to attributable as ownership under FCC local ownership limits. Also with this proposal, the existing JSAs wouldn't be grandfathered, but could give stations with existing JSAs two years to unwind them. The meeting won't include making "shared services agreements" (SSAs) or any other form of sharing arrangements attributable, but it will ask for input on how they should treat those other arrangements. He also said that he won't loosen up the crossownership ban between a TV station and a newspaper, something former Chairman Julius Genachowski was proposing in his 2010 quadrennial review. Meanwhile, the NAB made a pitch to the FCC this week to defending those JSA/SSAs.
  25. Follow-Up Time!!! It appears that Gray will acquire WQCW outright for that same $5.5M purchase. Gray has also formed a LMA with WQCW (which went into effect on February 1st) while it awaits the FCC to greenlight the deal. Gray states on the app that WQCW is not within the top-four highest rated stations, and it will still be eight equal voices in the market. _______________________________ Well we have the second and third FCC approvals of the year, which happened on Monday. First, the Roberts Broadcasting stations WZRB, WRBU and WAZE going to that "Broadcast Trust" was greenlighted by the FCC. Also, the FCC also greenlighted Boston Venture's last Smith Media station WKTV to Bob Prather's Heartland Media.
