  1. Have any of the newly-rechristened TEGNA stations received their new corporate ID files yet? Or are at least running this at the end of their newscasts? I'm asking because WATN's copyright stuff post-sale is just (C) 2019 WATN in very small font and nothing else.
  2. I kinda feel like this discussion over the National Anthem should be moved over into its own thread. With that being said, I don't see why restarting that tradition should be treated as such a big deal. I mean TV stations had been doing that stuff for years before daily sign-offs became a thing of the past. At least with what Gray has done is make their version tasteful enough to recognize all of the things that make America a special and diverse place. I still remember when stations were playing this version by the Air Force back in the day:
  3. How long has WLBT been using 360 as their news music?
  4. In all fairness, typeface aside, WMC executed this particular package much better than its East Texas counterparts.
  5. Is TEGNA's endgame to name every single morning newscast at their stations either "Wake Up!" or "Get Up!"?
  6. If the Gannett name goes away, it'll probably stay gone unless GateHouse assumes it post-merger.
  7. It makes sense when you're operating a virtual duopoly with WTTE via LMA. Apart from Kristine Frazao and Scott Thurman (who are both from corporate out of the DC bureau and shouldn't be considered as local talent), they have roughly 12 anchors (at least 3 with dual roles as anchors and reporters, and 3 who are also I-Team investigators), 7 general assignment reporters, 5 meteorologists, 1 sports director (Clay Hall), 1 traffic reporter/anchor (Katie McKee), 1 "Mobile Trak" guy (Mike Kilburn), 1 consumer investigator (Jesse Pagan), 3 MMJs, and two feature and entertainment people. And that's between BOTH stations. I really wish Sinclair's stations had their talent pages better organized.
  8. Decent package, but the lower thirds and typefaces need some fine tuning.
  9. WMC-TV in Memphis switched over to new blue-and-white graphics this evening. Appears to be another variant of the Gray look many of its stations have been receiving.
  10. Cox had a baker's dozen of stations (13 total), so that's about $230.77 million per station compared to $267.5 million for each of the two stations the Wolfes sold to TEGNA. A difference of roughly $37 million. I'm not surprised Dispatch cashed out when they did. The signs were there. Just didn't expect Deathstar 2.0(?) to pick them up.
  11. And yet Zucker hasn't exactly made things better over at that network.
  12. He's definitely been busy considering some of his recent works and collaborations as of late. https://mattquinncreative.com/projects
  13. One of two options: the Dalek Desk or the WISH-TV Special.
  14. Former WREG-TV weather and sports personality Johnny Dougherty, aka Johnny Dark, has passed away at the age of 75. https://wreg.com/2019/03/11/former-wreg-personality-johnny-dark-dies/
  15. The station's GM issued a statement earlier today: https://www.wcbi.com/wcbi-statement-following-columbus-tornado/
  16. This is nothing new. If I remember correctly, Kristen Tallent (former anchor/reporter at WHBQ) also works with SCS as a public information officer these days in addition to her work as a spokesperson for a couple of local businesses in the city.
  17. The one right underneath KTVX's fuzzy mic flag.
  18. And yet, she came from a TEGNA station that was competing against a Sinclair-owned station in Seattle before getting hired by the Smith Empire to compete against her now-former employer in DC. This should be fun.
  19. And yet, the final version WDIV wound up using was butchered enough to where it no longer looked like the same package Renderon pitched to them. Even WBRZ's former look was a recycled package that turned out to be an improvement over Scripps' first standardized look back in the mid-2000s.
  20. Or they could wind up with WVEC's old set if they didn't already throw the whole thing in the trash.
  21. In terms of graphics and music, those are definite. In terms of sets, not right away as WTOL's existing one is only a couple of years old, and KWES is more likely to receive a hand-me-down set than a Jack Morton/PDG design.
  22. Par for the course. This doesn't surprise me at all at this point.
  23. I know Nashville has the largest population and TV market (DMA 28) in the state, but Knoxville and Chattanooga are still well behind Memphis in terms of size (although Knoxville is currently 61st DMA-wise compared to Memphis, which is hovering around the 50s at the moment).
  24. I haven't seen Byron Day in years since his days at WHBQ, so I was surprised to see him pop up over at WALA-TV recently.
  25. Just throwing it out there, but what if TEGNA had an interest in getting the KAKEland cluster?
