1. To be fair, you have Nexstar stations already doing stuff like that anyway. Whatever it takes to get more ad revenues, I guess?
2. Doubt it has anything to do with Tribune's pending sale to Sinclair, so it was likely for personal reasons that he didn't want to disclose at this time.
3. I knew something about that headline didn't pass the smell test. The day ABC/Disney decides to buy more TV stations (which they won't for reasons that have been repeated over and over again in this forum) is the day broadcast television becomes obsolete.
4. Looks like a downsized version of the roundtable desk they use in that studio.
5. I don't know when this happened, but all of the Scripps station websites have new headers now that are smaller than the old ones.
6. Guess the next question to ask is this: Does Nexstar only use Comscore numbers?
7. That and the fact that their ratings have basically been flat for the last several sweeps periods. It's a problem that not even Nexstar has been able to solve.
8. No. Especially when you consider the Local branding has been largely dropped by all but WDIV in the group.
9. Which also means Nexstar can start using this at the end of every newscast at all of their stations (or something similar to fit each market): EDIT: Looks like I was right on the latter. The new copyright close has been customized for each market.
10. Too long. I don't know about that one. It could be something along the lines of MississippiProud.com or MississippiFirst.com
11. That all depends since both companies have a hodgepodge of graphics packages floating around from multiple sources (i.e., Hothaus, NBC Artworks, Linear Drift, jcbD, etc.) in addition to all of their in-house stuff.
12. If the cap gets eliminated altogether, the sky is the limit.
13. You could understand the frustration since the Browns haven't won a game all year (and will likely finish 0-16 barring any surprises).
14. NBC Local 4 seems more likely. I'm not even gonna speculate on what nbc4i.com will become.
15. Yeah, that should come as a surprise to no one considering Sinclair's political stance and the fact it has made donations to the GOP in the past.
16. WSMV and WTVF already do this and have been doing so for years.
17. Short answer: no. I'd imagine Nexstar will force them to scale back post-merger. One thing to keep in mind is Mobile-Pensacola is a divided media market. While most of the stations there focus primarily on the Alabama side (with some occasional stories from the Florida side), you have some like WEAR that mainly focus on the Florida side.
18. Barrington had a major hand in sinking WNWO into irrelevance. Sinclair was only the death knell.
19. A couple of talent shuffles in the Memphis market: WHBQ reporter Scott Madaus has been promoted to morning news anchor (4:30-6am) for Good Morning Memphis. His first day in his new position is Monday. Also, WREG announced during Claudia Barr's final newscast tonight that Stephanie Scurlock will take over as the new evening news anchor for the station. She was recently the morning news co-anchor for WREG's Daybreak.
20. WREG evening news anchor Claudia Barr announced her retirement tonight during the 10:00 newscast. Her last day is November 23rd.
21. It's needed. Outside of the many tweeks that have been made to the studio, the basic elements including the main desk had remained relatively unchanged since the Katie Couric era of the program.
22. Based on the promos that have been running, Mearl & Darrell are anchoring the 6pm news. Whether or not there will be a shuffling of anchors in the 5:00 hour remains to be seen.
23. Here's hoping WTVF will be able to do the same in the future.
24. Good to see Matt Stark back on the air. Speaking of changes, WHBQ will be adding a 6PM newscast starting next Monday. It marks the first time in almost 21 years that they will be competing directly against the other stations in that time slot.
25. They will be in two years for the Winter Olympics.
