  1. My gripe with Citadel is how little they invest in their station's newscasts (and how cheap they look). Just look at WOI and how it fares compare to WHO and KCCI in terms of production quality, journalism quality, and overall ratings Nexstar will hopefully put the effort into making these stations more competitive.
  2. Oh boy. Here comes WeAreDesMoines.com and QuadCitiesProud.com. Seriously though, having Nexstar as an owner would be an improvement for these stations.
  3. The CBS O&O's in the central time zone usually try to air Young and the Restless at the same exact time as their east coast stations (12:30 pm est/11:30 am cst). WBBM has an 11 AM newscast for that same reason. KTVT however has just showed Jeopardy in that timeslot. Either it's being moved (not sure when unless they cut CBS 11 News at 4 to a half hour) or another station is picking it up.
  4. Reminds me of KTVO in Kirksville, MO (Market #200). WIVB's looked pretty cheap and crappy back in the day too. But after LIN invested the station and upgraded it to HD in 2012, it actually looks pretty decent. "What the hell was that?"
  5. I guess CBS's contract with Cookie Jar TV is up and CBS didn't want to renew? I thought I remember hearing that the contract was about to run out soon. You can tell the networks are really trying to fulfill that E/I requirement the cheapest way possible if even Cookie Jar was too expensive for CBS.
  6. Wow...Gary England is an Oklahoma broadcasting and meteorological legend. But I am glad that he will still have a role at KWTV though. He's their most valuable asset.
  7. I'm vaguely familar with the KC market (some of the other guys who live in the market might be able to help me out). Prior to him taking charge, KCTV's newscasts were similar to what WOAI's sound like (crime-heavy, investigative reports, sensationalism). Once he took charge though, he toned the crime, investigations, and sensationalism down a fair bit but not to the point where it's excessively soft. So kudos to him for that. Here is an article I found that goes into more detail of how KCTV changed under his rule: http://www.bottomlinecom.com/kctv-has-changed-dramatically-but-old-perceptions-still-remain/
  8. Considering the rest of the WSVN lineup, I was always shocked that they had a guy off camera doing the traffic and not some piece of eye candy like the rest of the news staff. And WPLG is starting to imitate WSVN in terms of the style of their news coverage as well as the type of news staff they hire. I think that's why there is so much rotation over there.
  9. It also looks like rival station WVUE is teaming up with the Times-Picayune as well. http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2013/06/nolacomthe_times-picayune_anno.html#incart_river
  10. Delete this
  11. Makes a lot of sense since The Advocate is really trying to get its foot in the door in the New Orleans market since The Times-Picayune went to a three-day-a-week newspaper. A partnership with WWL will help out with that quite a bit.
