That whole thing is a mess and basically it seems like it was the result of a breakdown in communication between the school and the station. This station also did the same thing in other schools around the St. Louis area but they must've been able to verify that he was a reporter. The reason the one in Kirkwood went into lockdown was because they weren't able to verify that he was a reporter for KSDK for whatever reason. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/education/ksdk-reporter-working-on-school-safety-story-prompted-kirkwood-high/article_aa2ef2de-9905-5b26-a500-1105ae4b0df5.html

Not a fan of the solid blue "4". It gets blended in with that dark blue background.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

So I wonder if this means that AZCentral.com is going to get this redesign as well. They've been kind of independent from the other Gannett websites since it's the website for both the Arizona Republic and KPNX, but if this is including newspaper and tv websites, that's leading me to think that AZCentral is going this way too. Which is a shame because I like AZcentral as it is now and still can't get used to the new Gannett websites.- 3706 replies

The colder than usual weather hit KMOV especially hard last night as a water pipe burst, flooding their newsroom. http://www.kmov.com/video/featured-videos/Pipe-burst-in-News-4-newsroom--239240941.html

You know its pretty bad if WPBF is beating them.

And just as I predicted, Sinclair is using WNWO as leverage to force companies like Buckeye to carry the new cable news channel Sinclair is developing in exchange for carrying WNWO at 10 times the previous cost.
-
Figured that would happen. Fox really wanted to maintain what was left of their soccer credibility leading up to the FIFA World Cup (which they have the rights to in 2018 and 2022) plus this will help build up Fox Sports 1 and 2. I would've preferred NBC getting them instead, the hardcore soccer fanatics are upset as well because they wanted NBC to get the rights as well. I don't blame them, Fox always seemed to do a (for lack of a better word) half-assed job with their coverage of UEFA Soccer, plus their lack of streaming.

I'm just waiting for GCI to dump the KTUU simulcast on the NBC stations in Juneau and Sitka and replace them with KTVA simulcasts, especially given the frosty relationship between KTUU and GCI at the moment. Whatever happened to Nexstar being one of the potential buyers? I thought we had a thread about that earlier? Scripps would be a shock considering that Granite seems to consist of smaller-market stations than their current portfolio. I also see that Sinclair is a potential buyer as well. Either way, either one couldn't do a worse job at running WKBW than Granite has.

Yes. Based on what I read, they're partners. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsy.com I'm surprised we don't see more videos from KOMU if that's the case, considering it's owned by Mizzou's journalism school.

KNLC is a nonstarter. They had trouble just running the Fox Kids segment in the 1990's after KTVI refused to air it. I'll leave this bit from Wikipedia to explain the bad relationship between the two and why Fox Kids was ultimately pulled from KNLC. KNLC didn't like to runs ads that weren't religion based. And KNLC is still under the same ownership (Rev. Larry Rice) so I don't expect things to change there. Not to mention the outdated equipment they use, I think they're left over from the 1980's. As much as it pains me to say it, a better shot would be Sinclair buying WRBU and keeping the MyTV programming on it. Didn't realize that WRBU was sold. Considering that they do something very similar in Dayton and Columbus (which is also where KDNL's master control is based), it's not too far-fetched. The question now is if Sinclair thinks it's worth the investment.

Charter is bidding for them too so I imagine it's going to be a very competitive bid if TWC decides to sell.

I imagine that formula will change once Nexstar takes control, I don't think Nexstar tolerates that kind of crap. One think I like about Nexstar over other station groups is that their news departments don't seem to have a political agenda (unless it's buried under all that "Local" branding).

There's still WWOR's Chasing New Jersey for those who want a New Jersey news fix. I mean it's not the best source but it's there.
-
I'd hate to see them lose the call letter though considering their historical significance. But I agree that WOI desperately needs a WATN-style overhaul if they want any chance to battle the behemoth that is KCCI.
-
Same with KCWY and KGWN (the other big story is that both stations are currently run separate but this purchase will bring both of them under one umbrella). Right now, Casper and Cheyenne are a one horse town with KTWO basically dominating both markets. Hopefully Grey will invest in these two as they get integrated and finally bring some much needed competition in Wyoming.

I think it's a layout that I ultimately have to get used to. But in terms of design, it's worlds better than the CBS O&O ones.- 3706 replies

And just as we thought, they're getting Look G. Definitely a step up from their current graphics which look really cheap and really terrible. And it seems like Nexstar really likes "Local".

Only a matter of time then before KMOV gets them.

Ugh, why do station groups keep insisting that their websites look like something I would view on an Ipad? I mean it's not as bad as the CBS Local websites, but I don't see how designing websites like this is user friendly?- 3706 replies

Either way, it was something that was long overdue for KHON. I thought their old package look dated when it first came out.
-
He was also out in Salt Lake City at KTVX. Based on his past, it's hard to gauge how he will run KCTV.
-
Here is a story that talks about the KSEE/KGPE integration. You can also catch a peek at the new graphics (which seem to be the one Nexstar uses at its other CBS stations) http://www.yourcentralvalley.com/story/cbs47-will-be-eyewitness-news/d/story/wU6omdBuMU2xZXYwayZENw

This one caught my eye. Just judging by the job description, it looks like they want to start up something similar to "Chasing Charlotte". But my question is if all of Fox 46's newscasts will look similar to this. http://www.21cf.com/JobSearch/Details/?jobId=10297#.UjooL9K-o4Q "FOX 46 WJZY in Charlotte, NC is currently seeking an experienced PM- Executve Producer. This will not be a traditional “2 anchors on the set” program. You must be able to think way outside the box and produce shows that include live and pre-produced material from our editorial staff as well as contributions from the community along with a highly interactive social media element. Your resume reel should not be filled with run-of-the-mill spots news/breaking news, but show a keen sense for enterprise and presenting information that will hold an audience. You will also be expected to contribute to our online/mobile distribution of news."

My gripe with Citadel is how little they invest in their station's newscasts (and how cheap they look). Just look at WOI and how it fares compare to WHO and KCCI in terms of production quality, journalism quality, and overall ratings Nexstar will hopefully put the effort into making these stations more competitive.

Oh boy. Here comes WeAreDesMoines.com and QuadCitiesProud.com. Seriously though, having Nexstar as an owner would be an improvement for these stations.
