    A very odd WCBS promo from 1988, it's true: It's 2!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q5TA301iE0

Not odd because of anything in the promo, it's a highly produced, network-level spot; full of CBS stars (Bob Newhart, Dixie Carter, Brent Musburger, the works), not to mention Pat & Vanna. I call it odd because CBS' national campaign was the cheap, unremarkable, and infamous "Television You Can Feel"; all the while CBS put a whole bunch of money and effort towards a promo for just one station. A textbook example of how crazy things were during the Tisch years.

Was the campaign that bad? News 9 Viewer talked about the highlighted point from the topic about Fall Upfronts:

"Looking at their ambitious slate of new shows, I get the feeling that the 2014-15 season is a make or break season for CBS. Their new shows could be their next generation of hits, but I also get the feeling that next season could be a repeat of Television You Can Feel minus an awful image campaign."

Mind you, I did like the theme alone.

  2.

The writing on the wall was when the Scripps stations started to drop LWN one-by-one. They (Scripps) still have a few affiliates left, but I suspect we'll see them being replaced by Bounce, Me-TV, Antenna TV, or Cozi TV.

As one diginet falls, it's open season for the aforementioned diginets highlighted, though not limited. Potential high awareness can be reached in terms of success for these channels in terms of which affiliates will add what channel, thus excitement is fueled among the competition due to the news.
  3.

Then you've never seen "Gina D".

From what i've heard about Gina D. here, that's something i should stay away from at all cost, including searching on youtube and the lampooning from the soup i might add. BTW has 'Gina D' herself ever appeared on the soup since and/or does she know her show is getting a funny shellacking from the soup? *haven't watched the soup in a while btw*
  4. fans of WABC, heads up. I found videos showcasing the talents of legendary voiceover Scott Vincent including EWN opens in the 60s and 70s (and opens before known as EWN) as well as ABC Network promos (and wabc's as well) and good nuggets included opens and promos of the famous "4:30 movie". Browse the library below. BTW, can anyone tell me when did they stop the "4:30 movie"? was it when Oprah moved to 4pm or before?

This seemed like an odd story, a WXYZ reporter got hit with coffee while trying to talk to some squatters she helped evict. Then they came back during the live shot twice and threw BBQ sauce on the live truck.

Look, I Know it's bad enough but DAMN, Is Detroit that desperate to the point where, though not limited to the city but still, squatters invade a home and that, I don't know, lazy enough to find their own place? From what i've seen in that clip, it seems it is a group, not individual, of squatters in the same place.

Can you imagine such in-depth, intelligent coverage of an important international news story airing on local TV news these days? I'm having a hard time.

I think the closest is due to being such a giant figure that is the death of Nelson Mandela. Certain stations such as WPVI and WLS if i recall did just that kind of coverage. Even with that though is few and very far between. As Americans, We are our own world and only know certain other nations, all of them our allies. Other countries just don't 'exist' a blip in our mind, thus the state of local news, let alone national news, it has become.
  7. From user HummingbirdNash, notable local promos alongside other vintage commercials, it's a good look.

  8. I know I should probably post this in the classic video but there is a WABC element, as I can ask any of you here how long has Lucy Yang worked at WABC and before then at 'PVI (as this realization came fruition for me knowing her being at channel 7 for a long time)

  9. Last year I hit the jackpot with this:

, now I hit it again out of nowhere:

It's the open to the 1996 Good Day New York Theme with segment featuring 'the greatest with the latest' as Jim Ryan so put it, Miss Lynn Brown. Enjoy.

PS: Two More showcasing the theme: one other open for 'Good Day First Edition':

another is the rejoin at the beginning:

  10.

WETA's Metro Week, 1994. This production music was also used by CBS Sports. http://archive.org/d...obacco_gbw27a00

By the way, if anyone curious to find out the extended theme, search the title track "Explorers" on the killer tracks' search engine. It's a good track. By the way, as a native new yorker, it's been years since i've seen this open. I hit the jackpot on accident after searching for a different station and year. Oh the years when i was young watching Jim Ryan and the "good day gang". Seeing the open brought back the distant memory I had remembered.

Good Day New York Dec. 1993 open (with the controversy surrounding the EMS and then mayor-elect Guiliani) with the Kalehoff classic "Good Day" theme.

Part 2 into the continuation of the controversy

Is anyone from atlanta who grew up or still living in atlanta remember where you were when it happened? It was exciting for me to see it for the first time.
