  1. Now this is too much good stuff!

The WYFF bump really shares a sound with the contemporaneous WEAR pack from Hummingbird. The WSOC/WCCB open is something I've never seen, and that WBTV pack is solid stuff for 1994!

And North Carolina Now's open is straight out of a sitcom!

Not gonna lie, after seeing that NC Now open, all it was missing were announcing of "filmed before a live studio audience" + "in stereo where available" notice below. i was waiting to see what story they gonna tell on "tonight's episode". Cue the laugh track. Don't tell me they wouldn't 'fit in' between Full House and Family Matters. Perfect 'sitcom' open that captured the 90s, love it. By god, can anyone identify the WCNC nightcast theme. Is it production music? So addictive. I keep hearing that theme as background for WFAN Radio's 'Benigno and Roberts' football picks segments every friday. Yes WBTV's open is the standard of modern times, holds up so well.

  2. In 1993, KXAS led campaign in a cable retransmission issues (who knew those messes exist then?) against Telecable. Promos included Scott Murray and Iona Johnson. What role did she have on 5 at that time? What became of telecable? It seems the issue targeted those areas (Arlington, Plano, Richardson) were the ones affected. Did the threat followed thru?

  3. Also, those man-on-the-street interviews are absolutely painful!

Dana: Most People goin' out of business, do you know why they doin' it?

Reporter: You think Channel 4 is going out of business?

    Dana: Uh-huh

    Reporter: No, We're becoming FOX.

Dana: Oh y'all goin'..oh channel 11 is goin' out of business, huh?

    Reporter: no,no

Here's the thing, man on the streets interviews are painfully funny. That said, I thought the WSVN affiliation switch interviews were cringy...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=TtrO2DNmZAw;t=40

that moment above it TOOK. THE. CAKE. The reporter showed great restraint from saying "NO YOU...." I'm Done.

  4. GDNY is NOT going national. I'd bet the farm on that one. Does anyone remember "Good Day Live?" That was the national spin-off of Good Day LA. It was a huge fail. The flashy style of big market morning shows doesn't resonate well with viewers in Nebraska.

Especially with all the talk of main street vs 'elite' street (code: hollywood, wall street, NYC) nonsense that's been happening for years. I can imagine how those heartland audiences would rather watch tailored local 'good day' type shows.

  5. I'm concerned that Fox/Fox5 has made WWOR so irrlevent that it may never be able to recover unless it is sold. They have even moved that horrendous Chasing News out of the 10 pm hour and replaced it with some bad game show. Not a good sign. I would even guess that since CBS bought LI"s TV 55, it has more relevancy today than the old channel 9.

WWOR is basically a parking lot with few noted shining rims. It's basically a subchannel, even if they can't move into WNYW's subs due to COL requirements, I believe. Mind you, Chasing was relocated to 11pm for 'Family Feud' hour reruns. 'Some bad game show' you may be talking about is the limited summer test run, 'Iwitness', produced by Judge Judy.

  6.

Nothing makes me happy like a hearing a classic. Dan Dean's KOMO News 4 theme especially the promo at the beginning of clip. All I wanted to hear is the full theme rather than just a NMSA sample. If anyone, ANYONE has it, please...dm if you can. I had an interaction a while back who has the KOMO and KING cds from Dan Dean. I asked him to send the mp3 files to no avail. I'll probably try again. Man, didn't Fisher's KOMO had soul or what? (Case can made same for Bullett/Belo's KING)

  7.

One more clip and it's VERY rare. We take you back to March 1987 where we feature a KTVE newscast from this period. The news close can be seen at 15:24 and features an unknown news theme. Anyone know what it is?

It dawned on me. The very first version (my fave) of 'Come Home To NBC' back when they just introduce the current peacock in 1986. The theme alone should've lasted a full season IMO before they switched to gospel choir version. Campaign would've lasted five (instead of four) years. The instrumental version kicks ass as well. Someone stitch up + send it to NMSA.

  8. WGN's off the hook. Some dumbass just yelled FHRITP behind Stacey Baca on 7.

    No 1am rebroadcast tonight.

That's still a thing? Wow, we're on a roll. All I'm waiting for now is someone to go flashing on the Fox 32 plaza when they do an outdoor segment on GDC.

I swear to god, how that gross POS thing still exists? Oh yeah, douchebaggery rules. Newsflash: IT'S. NOT. FUNNY. EVER. I just feel like reporters have to prepare to counterattack perps who do this. Like throw a dart at them or shoot them bullets. Stations gotta gather for plans to stop this nonsense. Youtube clips of these 'incidents' encourage more of this douchebaggery.

  9. WJBK weekend anchor Ron Savage died of a heart attack today.

    http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/local-news/238077533-story

Just watched the 6:00 news online. Emotional seeing anchors marching on while paying tribute to Ron. Moral of the story is sentiment shared: Live your life, appreciate it. We all have an expiration date, some sooner than others. No matter how much we hope to live as long a la Betty White or Dick van Dyke. As fit as he was, younger than his age, while training, not even fitness did it prevent tragedy. Strength for his family + friends at this time.

  10. This is probably one of the first instances that we're hearing...but it makes complete sense given it's Raycom's largest market.

But it is a very sad "end" to a station Raycom has systematically driven into the ground over the last 15 or so years.

WUAB was the station I REALLY watched growing up. It was before we had cable. They had all of the cartoons I watched, and I stuck around to watch their off-network reruns of shows. I even remember watching "Barnaby" and "Superhost" in their final days of television back in the late 1980s early 1990s. It would be a few years later that I would get into news and all of the other nostalgia of Cleveland TV, but their shows were my "must-see-tv" when independent TV was still a viable thing.

Flash forward to Raycom taking over, flooding WUAB with third-rate court and talk shows like all of the other MyNetworkTV stations. They had a chance to keep their dominance, but gradually pared down their more expensive programming, only to have WBNX pick it up. In the process, they became one of the top WB affiliates in the country, and won the chance to get the CW affiliation. The stigma of Ernest Angley and mild swear words being bleeped out disappeared because WBNX was more willing to run a better station than WUAB was.

And to make matters worse, WUAB will live on as a subchannel on WOIO's anemic, abysmal VHF frequency. A signal so terrible that they had to sign on an LD in Akron just to cover most of the market decently.

Anyone has similar sentiments for WLVI to wax on?

  11. slight update according to screener starting tonight (2/7):

1am PIX11 News at ten repeat NEW

2am Last man standing RR (from 1am)

    3am Celebrity name game RR

    3:30 Rules of Engagement RR

4am Crime Watch Daily RR (from 2am, replaces 'rules' + 'the honeymooners')

Has there ever been a time a PIX11 Newscast had an encore? The PIX tv schedule can be so erratic with its changes.

  12. After Dick passed, I gave up on DCRNYE and migrated over to Anderson & Kathy on CNN, although I did enjoy what little I saw of Pitbull's special this year since it included classic hip hop, which I never expected.

Pitbull's NYE actually gave me life, it was pretty good. Although it should've been called Snoop Dogg's NYE Revolution feat. Pitbull since he (and others) was a towering figure + had more airtime than 'bull. The crew counted down in Miami rather than shooting to Times Sq. for the ball drop.

  13. What if i tell you there's exists a vidcheck spanning more than 5 hrs. of one particular June 6 1996 switching from WNYW to WNBC UNEDITED. A look at TV the way it was starting with basically a full episode of Good Day New York. EX-WSVN anchor Penny Daniels substituted for the vacationing Jim Ryan. Notable headlines included Bulls vs Supersonics (RIP) in the NBA Finals and Pamela Anderson giving birth to a baby boy.

  14. Granted, but there are some things that we've known for years and those things won't change I fear. Like the fact that Michael's chemistry seems forced with everyone but Robin, he stumbles over every other word, his delivery on GMA is like a dear caught in the headlights ("umm okay" "uhh alright coming up" "oh okay here's a look at..."), and most of all the fact that he's being forced into actual news stories when he lacks any journalistic qualities. I've always felt that one of the morning programs should have a dedicated sports anchor, why not create a position like that for Michael? It's painful watching him sit with the big boys and girls and pretend that he's on the same level as George or even Robin, I mean at least with Lara she just sits there during serious news topics..

I was just thinking that. In Australia, there is a sport anchor on the 'today' show on channel nine. So why wouldn't it work here? They already have michael and jesse palmer. They could rotate ESPN anchors (esp. newbies + not yet star players a la SVP) to fill in + in turn have their moment of shine.

  15. Maybe I'm just being swept up in the latest wave of nostalgia, but I feel like these shows were better in the 90s, as in I feel like they both devoted far more time to actual news than celebrity gossip and summer/fall/etc drink recipes.

As its 15th anniversary approaches I wonder if September 11 caused all this; people are more afraid of the world and just want to "happy" news, or rather frivolous and want to be bothered with "the real world" as little as possible.

Just take a look at this presidential election. Reflective if you ask me.

  16. I agree. And it's not just Boston. It's all over the country.

These crazy news expansions have been extremely ridiculous. And what's worst, some stations will gloat about having more hours of news then any other station in promos. It doesn't make the content of your newscast (or your station as a whole) any better, if you just keep on getting rid of other programming and replacing it with news. If news is all you show, then that would give viewers (and even non-news viewers) a reason to change the channel.

And in turn, partly reason why the CW/MNTV/Indy stations benefit from viewers is because of the decisions the almost all-news stations make, not because of content they have to make.

  17. Introducing....A full fledged broadcast of Good Day New York from June 6, 1996. Hosted by Jim Ryan (but then-WSVN's Penny Daniels substituted on his behalf that day) Weather with Julie Golden, Traffic with Candie Roth, News delivered by Lynn White and contributions featuring Cheryl Washington, Felipe Luciano, Larry Hoff, Dick Oliver, Bobby Rivers all reeked from the show's glory days. So fun.

  18. This is an interesting story within the halftime bet. NY Giants and the (again) LA Rams WK 3 in '93 season. CBS' The NFL Today Halftime report anchored by Greg Gumble (along with Terry Bradshaw) detailed possible expansion granting new cities new franchises. Stl, Baltimore, Charlotte, Jax, Memphis. Eventually all but Memphis received the prizes. Crosstown Nashville instead received it. One eyebrow raised moment of course is on St. Louis. Self explanatory since it's coincidental given the source you're watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h=1;id=qmYJZ0qjJXc;m=18;s=14
