@PelicanGuy, Color me surprised. But I believe this is the first time I've seen WDSU personnel dressing up.

Normally, they would wear station gear during the coverage.

Agreed, @CircleSeven. They normally just wear tuxedos and formal gowns. I guess they got tired of being called prude and lightened up a little.

  2. New Orleans TV and WWL Radio reports that former WDSU sports anchor Vince Marinello died Feb. 21 at Dixon Correctional Center in Jackson, La., about 45 minutes north-northeast of Baton Rouge. He was 82 and appeared to have died of natural causes. Marinello was serving a life sentence for the 2006 murder of his estranged wife, Mary Elizabeth, in a parking lot in Metairie. He also worked for WWL Radio and WTKL Kool 95.7 FM (now WKBU).

Why do they need a new set, when they just got that a few years ago?

No, they don't need a new set.

Now that I think about it, the main Mardi Gras festivities are right around the corner. IMO, it's a good time to unveil the new graphics.

  4. Yes, this is terrible news. Nancy was beloved in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas. I remember her from her WAFB days, too...even met her at the SWAC basketball tournament back in the mid-1990s when the tournament was held at the Baton Rouge Centroplex. She was a very down-to-earth person...very nice.

My condolences to her husband Glynn Boyd, their kids and their extended family.

  5. Former WDSU anchor Scott Walker is running for one of the at-large seats on the Jefferson Parish Council this year, according to The New Orleans Advocate. It is unknown which at-large seat he's running for. He'll join former WVUE reporter Jennifer Van Vrancken - who plans to run for re-election for her District 5 Jefferson Parish Council seat.

Former WDSU anchor Helena Moreno is currently chairwoman of the New Orleans City Council, representing the city as one of the at-large members.

Well so much for saving the T-P....the owners are laying off the entire staff....

A real dick move by both parties....Advance for reducing the Times-Picayune to this and selling to someone who puts everyone else on the street.

Georges said some T-P reporters will be hired by The Advocate, but everyone else gonna have to find a job out of state.

Didn't they move John Snell & Nancy Parker to the morning news? Are they being ditched since the sale to Gray?

Sorry for the late response, but John and Nancy are still there. I haven't seen the now-9 to 10 am hour yet.

As anticipated, the Superbowl drew drastically low ratings, especially in New Orleans.  Overnight numbers showed the game drew rougly HALF of prior Superbowls and even some regular season games on local New Orleans TV.

I think the NOLA fans won the Superbowl.  They got screwed by the refs by the no call, and the game was an absolute shit show for the NFL.

    You think?

In a move that makes zero sense, WWL-TV will start paid interview hour...err, I mean local lifestyle show Great Day Louisiana Monday 1/21 at 9 a.m., bumping Live with Kelly and Ryan to their sister station WUPL. Great Day Louisiana will follow similar shows on other TEGNA stations, based on the show demo reel that's just clips of other markets.

I guess TEGNA decided they could drag WWL's morning ratings even lower.

    What. The. F--k!?

As if how much more can you butcher a station?
