Shreveport native Leslie Spoon joins the WWL TV sports department, coming to the station from WFRV Green Bay. She will cover LSU and the Saints as well as anchor "Fourth Down Friday", the Friday and Saturday sportscasts and host "Inside Tulane Football With Curtis Johnson". She starts Friday.

WEAR 10 pm newscast the day after Hurricane Elena made landfall in Gulfport, Miss., 1985.
-
Two WLOX clips:
From 1979: Their coverage of Hurricane Frederic's landfall on the Ala./Miss. border.
From 1984: A network premier clip from WLOX featuring a young Robin Roberts, Nancy Russo and some of the station's long-time talent. Oh yeah, that KENS 1980s theme too and a cheesy ending.

September 1983 report and special on the old crummy WCCO facilities (which was cited by the fire marshall!) and its current building.
-
Also in the Big Easy; Juan Kincaid jumps from WWL to WVUE to replace former sports director Fred Hickman who left FOX 8 last week.
That came out of left field...Juan's gonna be kind of hard to replace.

WDSU has hired Adrianna Hopkins to co-anchor the 5 pm and 10 pm newscasts starting later this month with Camille Whitworth and Scott Walker, respectively.
Her most recent stint was at WSVN Miami.

Long-time WWL photographer Larry Schirling dies at 62.
-
Reporter Monica Hernandez has left WWL for a similar position at WFAA.

Former WWL-TV chief meteorologist Dave Barnes passed away Saturday in Florida due to complications from cancer. He was 78.
Before coming to Channel 4, he spent eight years as head of the National Weather Service's New Orleans office (office later moved to Slidell). He was part of the powerhouse team that included Garland Robinette, Angela Hill and Jim Henderson.

Thank God WWL still uses the "Louisiana News Leader" and "Spirit of Community" promos.
-
WWL's Gannettized Web site goes live Wednesday.

A reminder,
WUPL (sister station of WWL) will begin its 6:30 pm newscast on Sept. 9. It'll be anchored by Natalie Shepherd and Thahn Troung (and yes, Thahn is the permanent male anchor for the evening newscasts. Someone asked about that recently.)

If you have satellite especially and you can get a signal from the transmitter, keep an antenna handy. You never know when you'll need it.
Not I.

That's a great idea...... still baffles me if WMAZ in Macon is able to have customized "straight from the heart" lyrics on at least ONE of the Gari TIH songs, then I don't see why the Texas stations could not have "The Spirit of Texas" logo added into both the lyrics of the songs and a custom remix of the news themes. Takes next to nothing for Gari to add the logo as the front melody with TIH as the tag logo on the opens, bumps and such. I'd rather it be 615, TM or Arnold too -- but since it HAS to be Gari, makes no sense that WMAZ can get custom lyrics and the Texas powerhouses with such a strong legacy brand can't budget up for a Gari logo/lyric remix.
*ahem*
Or Channel 4 with the Spirit of Louisiana logo - it can work (not with the current cut of TIH they're using though).

Looks like they're putting together WWL's new Web site. Currently it has a lot of KVUE's material.
replace the "www" with "ux" then dot wwltv.com

Sports Director Rob Jay left Jackson's WLBT after more than 22 years at the station last Friday.

Now who the heck will I watch when I go to Jackson during football season? On the other hand, it's good to see him going to JSU's Ch. 23 (shout-out to my alma matter). I know he'll be helpful to those up and coming students.
-
^^^I didn't know that.
-
WDSU weekend evening anchor/reporter Rachel Wulff has left the station as of June 29. She opted to not renew her contract and may be looking to start a home renovation business with her husband.
Casey Ferrand, Gina Swanson or Blake Hanson to step up?
-
Looks like Thahn Troung has settled in nicely in the weekday evening anchor slot at WWL since Dennis Woltering retired. Troung is co-anchoring with both Natalie Shepherd and Karen Swensen. Katie Moore is now solo again on weekends.
-
I think he's worried about the overuse of the "This Is Home" stuff that's about to take place. It would not look good at all on WWL if they use it.
Any videos of those promos of the new graphics?
Only promo they've been running is the color codes and the sections they represent...and how it's supposed to make things easier. 15-20 seconds tops.

I don't have a problem with AWYT going bye-bye. Never really warmed up to it as a quick replacement for the Stephen Arnold cuts.
Damn that means no more "Spirit of Louisiana" either...dammit.
-
^^^Salute to Joe. Rest in peace.
-
Looks like WWL is flipping next Wednesday, caught the tail end of a promo.
I caught that too. And they still will be called "Eyewitness News" (yes!). But we can kiss Always Worth Your Time goodbye.
